                         One Stop Career Development Specialist (AST-1)
                                  (Adult Services Department)
This is a temporary full-time, exempt position funded through December 2010 under the America Re-investment and
Recovery Act (ARRA). JobTrain seeks individuals who understand the dynamics of non-profit organizations and
client-driven services, and who have a commitment to empowering the working poor and underserved populations.

The One Stop Career Specialist will work primarily with clients that are interested in receiving Workforce
Development Act (WIA) services. The One Stop Career Specialist will be expected to:
     Understand and comply with WIA enrollment requirements.
     Manage a caseload of enrollments in; training, job development and follow-ups after Exit.
     Maintain client files (record keeping, documentation, and monthly notes)
     Maintain contacts with vocational schools, employers, and service providers.
     Work with staff on special assignments, such as organizing special events and participating in functions
       hosted by JobTrain.
     Assist in the One Stop with membership registration, intakes and training referrals.

Work Schedule:
A regular schedule will be discussed and negotiated upon hire.

Develop working knowledge of:
    1. Workforce Investment Act (WIA) policy & procedures
    2. Local Workforce Development guidelines & procedures
    3. JobTrain’s ONE Data base
    4. Client flow at JobTrain
    5. WIA job placement and follow-up requirements
    6. One Stop services and operations
    7. Service provider services available in San Mateo County
    8. Job Information Center operations and services
    9. How to make referrals to agencies
    10. Develop and maintain employer relationships
    11. Represent JobTrain at events and speaking engagements promoting vocational training programs and services
    12. Manage and maintain employer/job development database for informational, tracking, and archival
    13. Make recommendations for improving services.
    14. Produce monthly reports detailing efforts in job development referral and placement.
    15. Other related duties as required by the Adult Services Department.

Experience: Extensive experience in community-based or corporate career development and training or related field
work. Proven counseling strengths a plus.

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, counseling/ psychology, social
work, or other human services is preferred.

          An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above.

Other: Successful applicants will have excellent written, verbal, organizational and interpersonal communication
skills, and computer skills. Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus.
