The night of July 11 will see the return of one
of Riverfest’s favorite bands, REO Speedwagon.
This American band, which has been growing in
popularity ever since the 1970s, has brought
crowds to Riverfest in the past to hear their
hits, including “Keep On Loving You” and “Can’t
Fight This Feeling.”
On July 12 Riverfest will welcome Molly
Hatchet and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
Molly Hatchet has enjoyed a national following
since the early 1970s, when the band emerged
with a Southern mixture of blues, country,
gospel and the English invasion of rock ’n’ roll,
later coined “southern rock.”
Contemporary hard-rock diva Joan Jett tore
up the charts with hits like “I Love Rock ’N’
Roll,” “Crimson & Clover” and “Dirty Deeds”
while still in her teens.
The final day of Riverfest 2008 will be the cul-
mination of 21 years of working to get one of the
most recognizable sounds of any band in history
to Beloit: the Beach Boys. From their first
recordings in 1961 and for nearly 50 years, the
band has enjoyed popularity and an amazing
array of hits. The warmth of summer will fill
Beloit as the band heats up the July night in
one of its final summer appearances in the
