Teaching Activities
Since 1979, I have been actively involved in teaching medical students, and both Pediatric and
Family Medicine residents. All first year Pediatric Residents rotate through the allergy service
and I have contact with the majority of the first year residents during that time either in clinic or
as they rotate in our offices. The rotation is also available to second and third year Pediatric
Residents as an elective. As chief of the Allergy Section, I implemented a teaching curriculum
designed to comply with Program Requirements for Residency Education in Pediatrics. I have
lectured to the third year medical students on anaphylaxis, allergic rhinitis, clinical immunology,
food and drug allergy and asthma. I also periodically give lectures and lead case based
learning discussions for didactic learning for both the Pediatric and Family Medicine residency
programs on various aspects of allergy and clinical immunology. I have coordinated invited
guest lecturers for Pediatric Grand Rounds and founded and continue to coordinate the annual
John M. Karibo Guest Lectureship in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology. I also have
participated in the annual Pediatric Residents retreat and given programs on the business of
medicine.
