					Kirbyville Library Rationale: Fifth Grade

The library skills program will help students in locating, evaluating, and synthesizing information. Students will also be provided with
experiences to promote the appreciation of literary works. The class is thirty minutes in length and meets one day a week. The class
period will be spent learning library skills as defined by the curriculum, borrowing of materials, and independent reading. This
library skills program is based on three main competency areas:

   1. Location: The student gains knowledge of the library media center organization, its facilities, personnel and procedures.

   2. Interpretation: The student evaluates, selects, uses and appreciates materials for curricular, leisure activities or personal
      enrichment.

   3. Research: The student develops skills in becoming proficient at information retrieval by using a variety of media materials
      for various purposes.

Library Scope and Sequence 5 to 8

Library Course Description: Fifth Grade

Students will learn:
