PROGRESSIVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH MUSIC MINISTRY DEPARTMENT BYLAWS & RULES TO GOVERN DR. REV. JOE W. TYLER, PASTOR BRO. PARISH L. THOMPSON, MINISTER OF MUSIC BYLAWS In keeping with our policy and practices as advocates of the new testament, we are reminded of the admonition of the Apostle Paul as he wrote, inspired by the Holy Spirit, “Let all things be done decently and in order”, I Corinthians 14:40. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace. RULES TO GOVERN Membership Prospective choir member must be a member of the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church family. Prospective member may be required to attend an orientation meeting for the purpose of receiving Bylaws and auditioning for proper voice placement. Upon completion of orientation, prospective member must attend two (2) consecutive rehearsals before being eligible to sing. All members are required to pay dues which are $5 monthly ($60 annually) for Voices of Progressive and $3 monthly ($36 annually) for the Young Voices for Christ. Attendance It is expected that members strive for perfect attendance at rehearsals, worship services, and choir events. Excused absences should be of a legitimate nature; illness, work, vacation, school or circumstances beyond the member’s control. It is the responsibility of each member who must be absent from a rehearsal or service to immediately notify a choir officer; i.e. minister of music or president. Failure to notify an officer of the absence will be considered an unexplained absence. Excessive absenteeism and/or tardiness may result in dismissal from the choir. If a member misses two (2) consecutive rehearsals, (s)he must make up a minimum of one rehearsal before continuing to sing with the choir. If a member accumulates three (3) or more consecutive unexplained or unexcused absences, it will be interpreted that the member is no longer interested in being a part of the choir due to nonparticipation. Prior arrangements may be made with the minister of music for members requiring extended absences. 10/05 2 Choir Rehearsal/Ministry Schedule Angelic Voices Combined Choirs Thursday 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday before the 1st Sunday 7:00pm– The 4th Sunday of each month 9:30 pm The 1st Sunday of each month Young Voices For Christ Men’s Ensemble Thursday 7:00pm – 8:00pm Tuesday before the 2nd Sunday 7:30pm – The 4th Sunday of each month 9:30pm The 2nd Sunday of each month Voices of Progressive Women’s Chorus Thursday 8:00pm – 9:30pm Tuesday before the 5th Sunday 7:30pm – The 3rd Sunday of each month 9:30pm The 5th Sunday in the months with 5 Sundays Rehearsal Choir rehearsal will commence according to schedule unless instructed otherwise Any person arriving to rehearsal 15 minutes or more after the scheduled time will be considered tardy Attempts will be made to notify all members of cancellations via telephone as soon as notification is given The Pastor or Minister of music must authorize all rehearsal cancellations Members are expected to sty throughout the duration of rehearsal, unless prior arrangements have been made with the minister of music Members are expected to practice self-discipline to stand as an example to others by work, song, and deed.
