Wonky Pop is a term used to describe a loose grouping of musical acts that play what the BBC calls "quirky, catchy and credible pop". The style is rooted in the eccentric side of 1980s pop music[1]. The BBC has reported that the term was both coined and is owned by the manager of Mika[2] while The Independent has reported the term was coined by Peter Robinson founder of the blog Popjustice[3]. However, the term was in use in 2005[4], predating any releases by Mika. Wonky is a British English word meaning ’unsteady’, ’shaky’, ’awry’ or ’wrong’.
