"The Cover of the Rolling Stone" is a song by Shel Silverstein about making a success in the music business. It was originally performed by Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, reaching #6 on the US charts. It was the band’s second single, and actually did get the band on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine — although in caricature rather than photograph. BBC Radio refused to play the song, as it contained the name of a commercial publication (Rolling Stone magazine), and could therefore be considered advertising.
