                                                            Students develop their skills by applying technical knowledge in the areas of
                                                            electronic health and medical records, data and workflow management, health care
                                                            delivery systems and project management applications. This program is designed
                                                            for students who wish to manage complex programs in healthcare informatics that
                                                            require enhanced knowledge and advanced skill sets.
                                                            The Healthcare Informatics Practicum course provides exposure to healthcare

                                                      Before entering courses in the first term of the Healthcare Informatics
                                                      program, students must complete a minimum of 12 credits, which must include
                                                      CTS 1101, HSC 1531 and BSC 1083 (or BSC 2085 and BSC 2085L and BSC 2086
                                                      and BSC 2086L). General education courses do not have to be completed in the

                                            Transitional program
                                            Transitional requirements: Students who have a current, valid health-related credential
                                            or license OR are graduates of an accredited health-related associate, bachelor’s, or
                                            graduate degree program may be eligible for advanced placement credits. Students who
                                            qualify for advanced placement would not be required to complete BSC 1083 Human
                                            Anatomy, HSC 1531 Medical Terminology, and HIM 1430 Principles of Disease. The listed
                                            general education courses can be met either by transfer credit or completed at SPC.
                                            Documentation verifying the credential/license AND official copies of transcripts must be

Completion of following Prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better:

                       Basic Computer and Information Literacy Competency

                       HSC 1531, Medical Terminology

                       BSC 1083, Human Anatomy, or (BSC 2085 and BSC 2085L, Human Anatomy &
                        Physiology 1 and Lab, and BSC 2086 and BSC 2086L, Human Anatomy & Physiology 2
                        and Lab)

Completion of a minimum of 12 hours in the general education and support courses of the Healthcare Informatics
curriculum.

Submission of the Health Programs Application.

                           Pre-Enrollment Requirements
Students offered admission must complete the following pre-enrollment requirements
within 90 days prior to the start of the first program course to maintain eligible status:


Completion of the Health Examination Form and any required immunizations.

Completion of the Student Services Orientation.

The minimum nonacademic criteria for satisfactory participation in the program (please refer to the
Healthcare Informatics curriculum for academic criteria).

Successful participation in the Healthcare Informatics Program requires that a candidate be able to meet
the demands of the program. A Healthcare Informatics student must be able to perform academically in a
safe, reliable, and efficient manner in classrooms, laboratory, and clinical situations. Therefore Healthcare
Informatics students must possess the below standards.
