May 7 2009 Edition Lions Club of Stratford Regular Meeting Thursday April 16/09
The Stratford Lions inducted two new members at the April 16th meeting. Lion Tracey Leary (left) sponsored Sherry Dekker and Ron Richards (right) sponsored Mathew Richards. District Governor OJ Wilura performed the ceremony. Special Guests welcoming in the new Lions were PDG Thom Herrmann, PDG Larry Wainwright and Lion Hilda Wainwright, RoseMarie Richards, Linda Dench and Keysha Leary.

Courtesy of the Stratratford Lions Club the HMS Razzamajazz will continue to cruise Victoria Lake during the summertime. City council on Tuesday night threw its support behind the club's offer to take responsibility for the barge. The city-supported Stratford Tourism Alliance has inherited responsibility for the popular boat from the former tourism department. The STA decided not to continue maintenance of the boat, and by extension, ending music along the river. At council last night, the city agreed to continue covering insurance for the boat under its general insurance umbrella and the agreement includes an understanding that any future capital requirements will be paid for through public fundraising. The barge has long been a fixture on the lake and has been an opportunity for many musicians to play traditional jazz to the enjoyment of strolling visitors. It has also been used in recent years for lakeside performances by Stratford Summer Music. The city will continue to be responsible for winter storage.

Regular Meeting Thursday April 2, 2009
Lion Trudy Carter called the meeting to order at 7 pm. Lion Trudy Carter led everyone in singing O’ Canada, Lion Ron Richards gave the toast to the Queen and Lion Tracey Leary led Lions Grace. Present were Lions members Tracey Leary, Ron Richards, Sherry Dekker and Trudy Carter. Also present were guests PZC Lion Norma Peterson campaigning for 2nd VDG, Lions Eric Peterson & Les Halman from the Fergus Lions Club, Matthew Richards and Keysha Leary. Minutes of the March 19, 2009 meeting were read by Lion Trudy Carter. Lion Ron Richards moved and Lion Tracey Leary seconded the minutes with errors corrected. Lion Eric Peterson introduced PZC Lion Norma Peterson who was campaigning for 2nd VDG. Lion Norma invited us all to visit her at her hospitality booth on the Friday evening of the convention. Old Business LINC Parents Fair – April 18 – 10 am to 3 pm Volleyball Sponsorship – Matthew discussed what it involved – motion to be made at April 7 meeting. HMS Razzamajazz – update to be given at April 7 meeting District A-15 Convention – May 1-3, 2009 – Lion Trudy Carter agreed to vote on behalf of club – registration forms are due at next meeting New Business Application for Membership – Lion Ron Richards moved and Lion Tracey Leary seconded to accept the application for membership from Matthew Richards, carried. All other New Business will be discussed at a meeting to take place at Lion Trudy Carter’s home on April 7, 2009. Other Business for the Good of Lionism Lion Maureen Salter updated the club on PDG Mike Salter’s cataract surgery – everything went well and they are now back in Arizona. Motion to adjourn was made by Lion Tracey Leary at 8:25 pm, carried.
Lions Club of Stratford Regular Meeting Tuesday April 7, 2009
Lion President Trudy Carter called the meeting to order at 7 pm. Present were Lions members Bill Robinson, Tracey Leary, Roy Howlett, Matthew Richards and Trudy Carter. Also present was Keysha Leary Old Business LINC Parent Fair – April 18 – 10 am – 3 pm - Lions Bill Robinson, Tracey Leary, Roy Howlett and Trudy Carter said they could assist Volleyball Sponsorship – after clarification of duties the club voted to donate $1000 towards sponsoring the Stratford Volleyball Association and run the beer garden at the May 22 & 23 Beach Volleyball Tournament, carried – originally moved and seconded by Lions Roy Howlett and John Otten HMS Razzamajazz – Lion Roy Howlett is to attend the City Council meeting on April 14 for final approval – subcommittee had already agreed to club running the Razzamajazz – discussion was had on prizes and draw dates. Stratford Ladies Slo-Pitch Sponsorship – Lion Roy Howlett moved and Lion Bill Robinson seconded the sponsorship of $500, carried. Rehearsal Dinner BBQ/Bartend – Lion Bill Robinson moved and Lion Tracey Leary seconded that the club would provide a total of 7 people to BBQ and serve drinks for a $500 flat fee. In discussion the recipient of service was to provide adequate insurance and obtain a liquor license, carried. Beacon Herald Volunteer Addition – Lion Roy Howlett moved and Lion Tracey Leary seconded a banner ad – must be in by April 10, 2009, carried. Stratford Resident in Need – Lion Bill Robinson moved & Lion Roy Howlett seconded the purchase of a Pulmonary Machine at a cost of $150, carried. Stratford Resident – Request for dentures – motion to file, carried. Motion to adjourn was made by Lion Bill Robinson at 8:30 pm, carried

7:00 – Lion President Trudy Carter calls meeting to order O’ Canada led by Lion Tracey Leary Toast to the Queen given by Lion Bill Robinson Lions Grace led by Lion Roy Howlett Introduction of Guests – Lions Guests - DG OJ Wilura, PDG Lion Thom Herrmann, PDG Larry Wainwright and Hilda Wainwright from the Fergus Lions Club. Also visiting are Rose Marie Richards, Linda Dench and Keysha Leary Dinner Minutes from April 2 and April 7th were handed out but not approved. They will be approved at our next Lions meeting Finance Report Lion Roy Howlett - No report tonight HMS Razzamajazz – Lion Roy reported on the out line of the Razzamajazz and the City of Stratford approving of the transfer of operations from Stratford Tourism. The City will provide insurance, storage and move the barge from and to storage. Ideas are being put together for fund raising. LINC Parents Fair. – Lion Trudy Carter. Saturday April 18th Stratford Lions held a booth and promoted Lionism and sold the large coloring books. New Business 2009-2010 – Stratford Lions Club Executive To be discussed at the next Lions meeting DG Endorsement from St Mary’s Lions Club – VDG Lion Karen McNeight Candidate for 2nd VDG – Hillsburgh & District Lions Club present their candidate Lion John Rothwell for the office of 2nd VDG Induction Ceremony was performed by Lion OJ Wilura Induction of Sherry Dekker with sponsor Tracey Leary Induction of Matt Richards with sponsor Ron Richards Other Business May 1st – 3rd Lions Convention
