MTV News began in the late 1980s with the program The Week In Rock, hosted by Kurt Loder, the first official MTV News correspondent. The main opening theme for The Week In Rock has been since 1990 the opening riff to Megadeth’s Peace Sells. It first began covering political news in the 1992 American presidential elections, through its "Choose or Lose campaign.[1][2] Since then, MTV has run "Choose or Lose" for other presidential elections in the United States. For the 2008 election, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton appeared on an MTV special to discuss the Iraq war.[3] Writers/Reporters • • • • • • Larry Carroll Josh Horowitz Gil Kaufman James Montgomery Shaheem Reid Stephen Totilo Producers Garth Bardsley, Segment Producer Akshay Bhansali, Segment Producer Jim Cantiello, Segment Producer Brian Jacks, Senior Producer Daniel Montalto, Segment Producer Joseph Patel, Senior Producer Andrew Ross Rowe, Associate Producer Christopher "CJ" Smith, Segment Producer • Vanessa White Wolf, Segment Producer • • • • • • • • MTV News in the U.S. Current correspondents • • • • • Sway Calloway (usually called Sway) Jim Cantiello Tim Kash Kurt Loder Kim Stolz Programs • The Week In Rock (John Norris and Kurt Loder) • True Life (Serena Altschul, John Norris, and Gideon Yago) • MTV News Now (Various Reporters) • MTV News: 1515 (Various Reporters) • The Wrap on MTV2 (Gideon Yago and Iann Robinson) • My Block (Sway Calloway) • My Life (Translated) (SuChin Pak) • 10-To-The-Hour Updates (Various Reporters) • Grammy Pre-Show (Various Reporters) • VMA Pre-Show (Various Reporters) • VMA Post-Show (Various Reporters) • MTV Movie Awards Pre-Show (Various Reporters) Former correspondents • • • • • • • • • Serena Altschul Chris Connelly Mark Goodman Brian McFayden John Norris SuChin Pak Iann Robinson Tabitha Soren Alison Stewart 1 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia • MTV Movie Awards Post-Show (Various Reporters) • After The Tsunami (Cyrus Broacha, Tim Kash, SuChin Pak, and Gideon Yago) • After the Storm (Gideon Yago, Sway Calloway, and SuChin Pak) • All Eyes On (Various Reporters) • Voices from Virginia (SuChin Pak, John Norris, Kurt Loder, Sway Calloway) • MTV/MySpace Presidental Dialogues • The Paper • Sex with Mom and Dad MTV News Germany • • Markus Kavka Karolin The Netherlands • • Dennis Weening Evelien Bosch Latin America • • • • Ilana Sod Jazz Nicolás Artusi Javier Andrade Social campaigns • Choose or Lose, a pro-democracy campaign geared to encourage collegeaged students to vote • Fight For Your Rights, campaigns against violence, discrimination; promoting safe sex • think MTV, about education, discrimination, sexual health, environment, and global issues Australia • Maz Compton References MTV News around the world Canada Aliya-Jasmine Sovani, Johnny Hockin, Sharlene Chiu UK • Rickie Haywood Williams Ireland Laura Whitmore Pan-European Laura Whitmore [1] De Witt, Karen (1992-02-08).
