In 18th-century Europe there appeared the first modern works that were both devoid of literary value and designed solely to arouse sexual excitement. A small underground traffic in such works became the basis of a separate publishing and bookselling business in England. A classic of this period was the widely read Fanny Hill; or, Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (1749) by John Cleland. At about this time erotic graphic art began to be widely produced in Paris, eventually coming to be known as French postcards. Pornography flourished in the Victorian era despite, or perhaps because of, the prevailing taboos on sexual topics. In 1834 an investigation in London established the presence of 57 pornographic shops on Holywell Street alone. A notable work of Victorian pornography is the massive and anonymous autobiography My Secret Life (1890), which is both a social chronicle of the underside of a Puritanical society and a minutely detailed recounting of one English gentleman's lifelong pursuit of sexual gratification. This small, portable device made nude photography in secluded parks and other semi-public places easier, and represented a great advance for amateur erotica. Artists were enamored with their new ability to take impromptu photos without carrying around a clunky apparatus. Early 20th century artist E. J. Bellocq is best remembered for his downto-earth pictures of French prostitutes in domestic settings in the red light district of New Orleans. In contrast to the usual pictures of women awkwardly posed amid drapery, veils, flowers, fruit, classical columns and oriental braziers, Bellocq's sitters appear relaxed and comfortable. David Steinberg speculates that the prostitutes may have felt at ease with Bellocq because he was "so much of a fellow outcast". Ever since artists began creating art, they have incorporated sexual themes into their work. As early as 23,000 B.C., Paleolithic artists across Europe were creating Venus figurines, female sculptures and basreliefs with distinct, exaggerated sexual characteristics that many archeologists believe were associated with fertility rituals and beliefs. Ancient civilizations, such as various Indian cultures throughout south East Asia, were replete with sexual or erotic imagery. Viewed through the lens of modern Western culture, the exact intent and context of these art works is often difficult or impossible to surmise, but their explicit relationship to sex and the human body is clear. Whatever specific purpose these works fulfilled in their respective cultures, it appears to have been a central, fundamental one, fully accepted and recognized.
In more recent periods in Western history, artists dealing with sexual themes or imagery have worked in much muddier waters. The Brooklyn Museum of Art's current exhibit, "Exposed: The Victorian Nude," is a perfect example of Western unease with the artistic portrayal of the human form. Though the 19th-century British works are tame by modern-day standards, at the time of their creation they incited heated moral debate and controversy. From centuries and centuryřs nude women is a source of pleasure for men, either in form of paintings, books, portrait, and movies or in reality. As there is demand of women being nude the supply is obvious i.e. what this art is producing from thousand years. Technological changes now made it very easy in the form of movies and internet, for the men to gain access. Lesbianism is a concept of 20th century which is also famous now a days, this new presentation of women is sometimes more pleasurable to some men.
