Preface
Blogging has exploded. Every day 2,000-4,000 new bloggers join the Internet. That's a
staggering number of new voices, new opinions, and new experiences. You can join these
bloggers — all it takes is some software and something to say. I have written this book to help
you quickly get up and running with the concepts and software.
My main objective is to help you select a blog system and get it up and running as soon as
possible.
This is my fourth book in All about – in a Nutshell series.
I will appreciate and gratefully acknowledge the comments and suggestions from the readers and
my friends.

All About Blogging In a Nutshell
1. A Great Idea For a Blogging Web Site is No Longer
Enough
Because there are so many blogs and web sites about blogs on the internet, it can be tough to
distinguish your blogging web site from all of the others. Whether you are starting up a new web
site aimed at bloggers or whether you are looking to make your existing blogging site more
distinctive, the key to building and maintaining a site that will capture the interest and attention
of the blogging community is finding your niche. If you can fill a unique need in a way that no
other web site does, you'll be able to build a lasting readership among web surfers. Once you
have discovered a niche, you will still have a lot to do, but finding your place in the blogosphere
is the place to begin.
Every great blogging web site starts with a great idea,
and you can't build a successful site that will last without
one. There are many great sites aimed at today's
bloggers, and competition for the attention of this
growing demographic is fierce. To make your blogging
web site stand out from the pack, you will need to offer
something that no other site is currently offering, or you
will need to do the same thing that an already popular
site does but in a more impressive or valuable way.
One way to discover an ideal model for your blogging
web site is to look at the sites that have successfully
captured a blogging audience already to determine if you
can appropriate some of their strategies to help realize your vision. Of course, you will also need
to add a unique flair to your project in order to stand apart from your competition. Many people
agree that the web sites that do the best in today's market are the sites that have the most
personality. The fiercely individual surfers who are bloggers are a demographic that responds
especially strongly to personality, so consider how you can give your site a unique and attractive
feeling by lending your own voice and sensibility to your site's design and content.
Once you have a great idea for your site, have pinpointed a special niche that you are well
equipped to fill, and have infused the site with personality, the next step is figuring out how to
get the word out to bloggers. In the long run, a great idea just isn't enough to propel your
blogging web site to success. You will need to draft a smart and realistic marketing plan in order
to draw readers to your site. Once you hook a blogger, your great content will keep them coming
back, but it is vital to get that first glance or your site won't have a chance to shine.

2. Affiliate Marketing and Blogging
Affiliate marketing is one way in which bloggers utilize their blog to
generate revenue. The amount of revenue generated by a blog featuring
affiliate marketing links may vary significantly depending on the amount of
traffic the blog receives as well as the compensation offered for the
affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing essentially entails creating a link on
the blog to another company’s website. The other company then
compensates the blog owner according to a previously agreed upon
contract. This compensation may be awarded in a number of different
ways. The blog owner may be compensated each time the advertisement
is served, each time a unique website visitor clicks through the
advertisement or each time a blog visitor performs a desired action such
as making a purchase or registering with the website. This article will
discuss some aspects of affiliate marketing which bloggers should
understand including selecting opportunities carefully, maximizing the income potential for these
opportunities and understanding the requirements associated with these affiliate marketing
opportunities.
Selecting Affiliate Marketing Opportunities
There is a wide variety of affiliate marketing opportunities available. Many different companies
and websites offer affiliate marketing opportunities. In most cases the blog owner simply needs
to submit the website address of his blog along with some other basic information for approval.
In most cases the company is not likely to reject the application unless the content of the website
is deemed to be objectionable or otherwise in conflict of interest with the company’s goals.
However, although getting approved to display affiliate links on your website is a rather simple
process, this does not mean blog owners should select these affiliate marketing opportunities
without discretion. It is a far better idea to carefully select affiliate marketing opportunities with
companies who are of interest to the target audience of the blog.
A well focused blog that is reaching a specific target audience should seek to display marketing
links directing website traffic to companies which complement the blog without acting as direct
competition to the blog. This helps to ensure the blog visitors will not only be interested in the
affiliate marketing links and therefore more likely to click on the links but will also help to ensure
the blog visitors do not find the affiliate marketing links to be bothersome.
Maximizing Affiliate Marketing Opportunities
Once blog owners have selected affiliate marketing
opportunities it is time to consider how they can
maximize the profit generated by these links. There
are a couple of critical factors which blog owners
should carefully consider to help maximize their
profit from affiliate marketing. This includes
regularly evaluating the effectiveness of the affiliate
links and promoting the blog to maximize traffic.
Page 8
All About Blogging In a Nutshell
2. Affiliate Marketing and Blogging
Blog owners who incorporate affiliate marketing into their blog should regularly evaluate the
effectiveness of the affiliate links. This can be done by comparing the percentage of blog visitors
who click on the affiliate links to the overall blog traffic. A blog which has high traffic but a
relatively small percentage of visitors who click on the affiliate links should consider making
changes to attempt to entice more blog visitors to click on the links. These changes can involve
the aesthetics, size or location of the advertisements. Making only one change at a time is
recommended because it makes it easier for the blog owner to evaluate which changes are most
beneficial.
Blog owners can also help to maximize the profit from their affiliate marketing opportunities by
doing self promotion to drive additional website to the blog. This will likely be beneficial because
higher website traffic will generally translate to greater profit from affiliate marketing.
Additionally, the blog owner may want to occasionally mention companies for which they are an
affiliate to generate interest in the advertisements on the website.
Understanding Affiliate Marketing Requirements
Finally, blog owners should pay careful attention to the
affiliate marketing agreements they enter. This is
important because some companies may place
restrictions on the usage of a link to their website. This
may include restrictions such as avoiding objectionable
content, not including links or advertisements for direct
competitors or restrictions on the appearance of the
affiliate links. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may
result in the blog losing affiliate privileges and the blog
owner being denied compensation.

3. The Right Blogging Platform For Your Needs
Choosing which blogging platform to use is one of the most important decisions that you can
make as a blogger. The right platform can make blogging a breeze, and the wrong platform can
make blogging a chore. Because the program that you use to blog with is such a powerful part of
your blogging experience, it is well worth putting in the time to find a platform that provides your
ideal balance between a user-friendly interface and a flexible framework that allows you to make
your blog look and feel unique. Finding the right platform isn't always easy, but with a little bit of
contemplation and a little bit of research, you will be on your way to finding the perfect blogging
platform.
Deciding what your priorities are in terms of ease of use
versus customization. Most highly customizable blogging
platforms, like moveable type, are a bit more difficult to use
than very automated platforms like wordpress. If you are
new to blogs and to internet technology, you might want to
sacrifice the ability to create a custom background design or
to integrate a unique font into your template in order to find
a program that will be easy for you to use. On the other
hand, if you are a veteran web designer with knowledge of
html or javascript, you will probably find the limitations of a
user-friendly platform to be frustrating.
There is no such thing as a blogging platform that is
objectively the best platform, because every blogger has
unique needs. The blogging movement is very much about individuality, so it makes plenty of
sense that there would be many different platforms available that are designed to meet the
needs of different kinds of individuals undertaking different kinds of projects. This diversity is a
good thing, because it means that you will almost certainly be able to find a program that suits
your level of technical aptitude.
However, the fact that no two bloggers need the same thing from a blogging platform can make
your search for the right platform a bit tricky. When you are reading reviews of different
platforms, try to keep your priorities in mind and do your best to take into account the position
that the reviewer is coming from. For example, a negative review written by an accomplished
software designer who complains that a popular platform is too limited may tell you that the
platform in question is ideal for a beginning blogger. There is no such thing as the perfect
platform for everybody, so instead of looking for the
"best" platform, look for the best platform for your
specific criteria.

4. Blogging with Wordpress
Wordpress is one of the many options available to bloggers who are looking for free software
online which makes it incredibly easy to publish their own blog. This software is easy to use,
provides a variety of templates and offer excellent support to bloggers. There are many options
available to bloggers and other blogging programs may be better known and offer slightly
different features but many bloggers are quite pleased with Wordpress. This article will offer
some useful information for bloggers who are considering starting a blog
with Wordpress such as reasons to choose Wordpress, tips on starting a
blog and information about the support offered by Wordpress. Based on
this information as well as their own research bloggers can decide
whether Wordpress is right for them or whether they should seek out a
different blog network.
Reasons to Choose Wordpress
There are many great reasons to choose Wordpress to start a blog. Some
of these reasons include a great variety of templates, the ability to
categorize and tag posts easily, features such as spell check, previews
and autosave, the ability to post text, audio files and video files, a variety of privacy options and
the ability to track statistical data related to the blog in addition to other great features. Some of
these features may be more important to some bloggers than others so deciding whether or not
Wordpress is right for you will largely be a matter of personal preference. For example bloggers
with little or no programming experience may enjoy the myriad of templates available on
Wordpress while bloggers who are concerned about privacy issues may be more interested in the
privacy options available through Wordpress. Carefully investigating these features will help
bloggers determine if they should start a blog with Wordpress.
Starting a Blog with Wordpress
Bloggers who opt to start a blog with Wordpress will certainly not be disappointed by the amount
of time it takes to start a blog. A blogger can literally start a blog with Wordpress within minutes.
This is tremendously important to bloggers who are eager to get started and do not want to deal
with a long process to start a blog. The only requirements for starting a blog are a valid email
address and a username. The blogger enters this information into the signup page and receives a
password almost instantly. Next the blogger simply has to check his email, follow the activation
link provided and use the password provided and the process is complete. The blogger can start
blogging immediately.
Support Offered by Wordpress
For many first time bloggers the type of support offered is very important. This is because first
time bloggers may have quite a few questions about
the process of starting a basic blog and once they
establish a basic blog they may have additional
questions about using advanced features and
customizing the blog. Wordpress offers a great deal
of support for bloggers of all skill levels. The support
offered by Wordpress includes the ability to contact
the support staff as well as the ability to receive
support from other members through online forums.
Although the support staff is incredibly responsive
some bloggers enjoy the ability to communicate
with other bloggers in forums. This is because the
forums are active 24 hours a day and bloggers can
find support from peers at any time.

5. Blogging 101
Blogging 101 is mostly about the blogging vocabulary. To understand blogs, you need to know
the terms blog, platform, domain, and web host. Once you have mastered these key elements of
blogging, you can enter any conversation about blogging with confidence. After you know what
exactly a blog is, you will be on your way to passing the final exam of blogging 101.
Blog is short for web-log, which simply means a series of online posts presented in reverse
chronological order. That's all! Most blogs
are text, but there are also photo blogs and
video blogs. The rest of blogging 101 has to
do with the technical side of things. If you
are setting up a blog, you will need a
platform, a web host, and a domain. A
blogging platform is a computer software
program that allows you to write posts and
to update your blog. Your platform is also
what you use to design the look of your
blog, from color scheme to font size. The
web host is sort of like the virtual file
cabinet where your blog is stored. Your
computer communicates with the host when
you upload or edit a post. The domain is the
online address of your blog, and usually
ends in ‘dot com'. Now that you know what
a blog is, what a platform is, and what
domains and hosts are, congratulate
yourself! You have passed blogging 101.

6. Blogging: Consolidation, Debt, and New Information
Technology
If you are interested in blogging, consolidation, debt, and other financial topics are sure to
appear in many of the blogs that you regularly read. Techniques to make and manage money are
some of the most popular topics for bloggers to
explore on the web, so it is little wonder that so
many bloggers turn their attention to dealing with
debt. Falling into debt is all too easy, and getting
out of debt can be very difficult for people who do
not have a lot of financial expertise. For people
who have a knack for dealing with finances,
blogging about their insights and knowledge can
be a great way to literally and figuratively share
the wealth.
If you are considering getting into blogging,
consolidation, debt, savings, and investment
topics can prove to be very fruitful things to write
about. Many professional bloggers who make a
living off of their blogs spend their days writing
about money. If you know how to court advertisers and build a blog fan base, you can make
money just by talking about money. If you are familiar with loan consolidation, negotiating
settlements with credit card companies, or any other financial topics, consider using your
knowledge to create a successful blog. By sharing your expertise, you may be able to help your
readers get out of debt while you reap sizable monetary rewards for your time and knowledge.

7. Blogging For Business Owners
If you run a small company, you may find that the world of blogging for business owners is a
world that you want to be a part of. Blogging is a great way to get the word out to consumers
about your product or service, and it can even be useful for inspiring employee loyalty and
helping you keep your workers at peak morale. If you are looking for a way to take your business
to the next level, consider what starting a blog might be able to do for you.
Blogging for business owners has a lot in common with all other types of blogging, but it has its
own unique pitfalls and strengths. The key to
having a successful blog as a business owner is
keeping your goals clear and concrete at every
step of your blogging adventure. It can be all to
easy to get sidetracked, especially if you are
just learning about the exciting possibilities of
blogging technology, but if you want your blog
to succeed you need to stay focused. Write up
a plan for how often you will update, how you
will promote your blog and retain readers,
whether you will feature photographs or video,
and other aspects of your blog, and then stick
to it with the same kind of determination that
you used when you built your company.

8. Blogging for Fun
Although blogging can be used for a variety of other purposes such as generating income,
promoting a cause and providing information there are many bloggers who enjoy blogging simply
because it is fun. These bloggers enjoy blogging for reasons such as staying in touch with friends,
expressing themselves or keeping a record of important events. This article will explain how blogs
can be used for these purposes.
Blogging to Stay in Touch with Friends
Staying in touch with friends and family members is just one of the many reasons a person may
wish to start a blog. This is especially useful for those who move far away from their friends and
family members. Staying in touch by phone, regular visits and even email is not always easy.
This is because it can be difficult to keep up long distance interactions with several different
people at once. However, by maintaining a blog, a person
can greatly simplify the process of staying in touch with
friends and family members because they do not have to
repeat information in individual phone calls or emails or
make time to visit several different people.
When maintaining a blog, the individual can choose to
post a variety of information and photos. Through this
information and photos the blog owner can keep others
informed about current events in his life. Friends and
family members can view the blog at their convenience
to catch up on important events in the blog owner’s life
and in most cases can post comments to the blog owner.
They can also read comments from others. This is beneficial if those viewing the blog know each
other because they can not only stay in touch with the blog owner but also have a chance to
communicate with other friends and family members through the comments section of the blog.
Blogging as a Form of Expression
Some bloggers begin blogging as a form of expression. They may right poetry, songs, short
stories or even use the blog to vent about personal events or politics. These bloggers may wish
to keep their blog private or can make the blog available to the public. Keeping the blog private is
sort of like keeping a diary or a journal. It gives the
blogger a multi-media form of expressing himself
without the risk of others discovering his true
feelings, innermost dreams or frustrations. Other
bloggers opt to make these blogs public. This may
be for a number of different reasons. Sharing these
feelings with others allows the blogger to reach
others who may have the same interest as the
blogger.
Page 15

8. Blogging for Fun
Bloggers who use their blog as a form of personal expression may want to be cautious and
consider the decision to make a blog public. This is important because the blog owner may
initially not see problems with allowing others to view his personal thoughts. However, over time
he may realize his blog could either be offensive to others or could result in problems if friends or
family members view the blog.
Blogging to Keep a Record of Events
Another common reason for blogging is to keep a
record of important events. Examples of some types
of events which a blogger may wish to document
include a pregnancy, weddings, vacations, sporting
events or completion of school events. Using blogs
to keep a record of these events gives the blogger
an opportunity to record daily events in one simple
location where they can easily look back on the blog
or share the postings with others who might be
interested in the events. In these cases the blog can
serve as a form of scrapbook documenting the events as they occur. The blog owner can post as
often as he desires and may choose to include elements such as photos, music, audio files and
video files into the blog. The blog can also be designed to suit the events being documented. For
example a journal depicting a vacation may have backgrounds, fonts and colors representing the
vacation location while a pregnancy blog may feature elements which represent pregnancy,
babies and being parents.

9. Blogging for Profit Begins With a Long Term Plan
Many people dream of blogging for profit, and this goal is not far beyond the reach of someone
with average intelligence, a willingness to work hard, and a basic grasp of blogging technology.
However, very few people manage to reap the profits they want from their blog. Most people who
attempt to make money with their blogs do not succeed for two reasons. Often, bloggers have
unrealistic expectations of how fast their readership will grow and how much money they will
make, and when these expectations are not met the disappointment can crush the desire to
continue blogging. The other trap that many bloggers fall into has to do with lack of planning. If
you want to turn a profit as a blogger, the key to success is to make a realistic plan and stick
with it.
To succeed at blogging for profit, the main
thing that you will need is a large readership.
The higher your traffic, the more advertisers
will agree to pay you. However, cultivating the
regular visitors that you will need in order to
make a profit isn’t easy. As more and more
blogs appear each day, having a great idea or a
wonderful writing style is no longer enough to
get attention. You need to be able to market
your blog effectively.
Too many bloggers spend all of their time
writing posts and almost no time marketing
their project. To be certain, updating as often
as you can is a great way to keep your blog
high on blogrolls and high in blog search
engines like technorati, and once your readers know that you update frequently they will return
to your site on a regular basis. However, it does not matter how often you update if nobody is
reading your page, so don’t skimp on the time that you spend drawing visitors to your site. To
make your dreams of blogging for profit a reality, try decreasing your number of posts and using
some of that time to draw new visitors by setting up link exchanges with other bloggers, making
contacts in the blog community, and following other established modes of winning traffic.
Of course, even if you are a marketing genius or have a really great idea for a blog, success is
not going to happen overnight. Building the kind of readership that blogging for profit requires
takes time, and in all likelihood it will be at least
several months before you are able to turn much of
a profit. Try to stay committed to your blogging
project during this initial rough period. To stay
motivated, set goals for how often you will update
and how many readers you want to attract, and
then reward yourself for sticking with your plan.

10. Blogging News Stories as They Happen
Blogging news stories as they unfold is one of the most exciting and controversial applications of
technology that bloggers have discovered. One thing that makes the blogosphere so active is the
fact that it is possible to update a blog instantaneously, so the news on blogs tends to be more
current than the news in the paper, or on television. Unlike news delivered by these other media,
news that appears on blogs does not have to travel through a series of editors and administrators
before it reaches the public eye. This has some advantages, and some distinct disadvantages.
One of the most notable cases of news hitting a blog before appearing in other media took place
in July 2005 when terrorism struck London. As passengers were evacuated from a subway car
near an explosion, one man took several photographs of the scene with his cellular phone, and
within an hour these images were posted online. First-
person accounts of the catastrophe began appearing
on blogs soon after these photos appeared, and
people all over the world learned about the events in
London by reading the words and seeing the photos
posted by bloggers.
The fact that these stories and images were being
spread directly by individuals operating without the
added filter of a reporter helped to make the crisis
feel very immediate to people across the globe. When
it comes to blogging, news often appears in a very
personal context. This has the potential to be the
beginning of an exciting new era of reporting, one
that takes "New Journalism" to it's logical next step
by putting the power to shape how the news is written and read directly into the hands of the
public.
Many bloggers and cultural commentators who are champions of the weblog movement feel that
this growing trend of individuals who getting their news from blogs is a good thing, because it
makes the flow of information more democratic. By decentralizing the control of news, blogs
allow more voices to enter the field of debate about important current events. However, many
people are adamantly opposed to the use of blogs as news outlets, and there are plenty of good
arguments on this side of the debate. Unlike newspapers or television stations, few blogs have
fact-checkers, and there is little attention paid to journalistic accountability on many blogs. This
can lead to the rapid spread of misinformation, and
more than one falsehood has taken the blogosphere
by storm. The questions about whether blogging
news as it happens is ethical or not are very
complicated, but no matter where you stand on the
topic of current events blogs you are almost sure to
agree that this movement has the potential to
revolutionize how modern people get their news.

11. Blogging on a Social Network
Blogging is becoming increasingly popular and social networks are also becoming more and more
popular as well. Social networks include popular websites such as MySpace.com where users can
create personal websites and interact with other users. These websites may include a wide range of
components including text, images, audio, video and blogs. Here system users can voice their opinions,
provided updates on their life, offer insight into current events or accomplish a number of other goals.
However, bloggers who utilize a social network to maintain their blog should consider a few different
factors. This article will discuss some of these factors including whether to make the blogs available to
the public or keep the private, considering the audience of the blog and dealing with harassment
through the blog.
Making Blogs Private or Public
Most social networks enable users to make their website either private or public. Private Websites are
only available to the user and other users he specifically approves to view his website while public
websites are available to all users of the system. These same capabilities also apply to the blogs which
are maintained on a social network. For this reason bloggers must determine whether or not they wish
to make their blog posts available to the entire social network or to only a fraction of this network.
This decision will be largely based on a matter of personal preference. Social networks can be quite
extensive and some bloggers may be apprehensive about their blog being available to such a large
audience while other bloggers may have no apprehensions about the size of the potential audience.
Bloggers should carefully consider this option before staring a blog but always have the option to
change these settings after the blog has been established if they change their mind about the choice
they originally made.
Considering the Blog Audience
Bloggers who utilize a social network to maintain a blog should also carefully consider the potential
audience for the blog. Most social networks include a broad cross section of the general public.
Therefore bloggers should be aware of this audience when posting a blog and should consider how the
blog entries will be interpreted by blog audience members. While it will never be possible to avoid
offending all potential audience members some bloggers may wish to consider at least attempting to
ensure the blog entries they post are appropriate for all members of the social network. If this is not
possible the blogger may consider making the blog private.
Dealing with Harassment through the Blog
Another aspect bloggers who use a social network to publish their blog should be aware of includes the
potential for harassment from other members through
the blog. This can be in the form of offensive
comments posted in response to blog entries.
Depending on the degree of the harassment the
blogger may choose to ignore these comments or take
stronger actions. Bloggers should review the policies of
the social network and solicit their assistance in
dealing with harassment from other users. In most
cases dealing with the problem may be as simple as
blocking the user from making comments on the blog
but in some cases it may be necessary to contact the
social network administrators in an attempt to get the
user banned from the system. In this situation the
administrators will review the situation and make a
judgment regarding whether or not the user
has violated the terms of service. ❉❉❉

12. Blogging Software
With blogging becoming increasingly popular, there is also an increasing need for software to
simplify the process of blogging. However, there are many different software packages available
which can make selecting a package seem overwhelming. Selecting a software package does not
have to be difficult though. Bloggers can find websites which provide comparison charts for
different software packages to simply the decision making process. These charts can save the
blogger a great deal of time and effort because they compile a wealth of information into one
convenient location. The blogger may still need some additional information before using these
comparison charts to make a decision. The article will provide insight into some of this additional
information which may be useful such as how to understand the comparison charts, methods for
comparing the software packages and tips on selecting a blogging software package.
Blogging Software Criteria
Those interested in starting or maintaining a blog
should fully understand the blogging software criteria
before attempting to compare software packages.
Some of the criteria it is important to understand
include the minimum server requirements, data
storage and the post editor. Understanding these
criteria is critical to the process of comparing and
selecting blogging software packages.
The minimum server requirement refers to the
minimum requirements for the server on which the
software is to be installed. In most cases the power
and speed of the server is not relevant but instead it depends on the power and speed of the
software necessary for the proper operation of the blog software. There may be additional costs
associated with this software as well as additional license requirements.
Data storage is also an important part of evaluating blogging software packages. This may
include options such as a flat file, a data file or a database. A flat file refers to storage options in
which the full page is pulled each time the blog is requested by a browser. A data file refers to
situations in which the data for the blog is inserted into a template when the blog is requested by
a browser. A database refers to storage options in which the necessary information is pulled from
a flat file and inserted into a template when the
blog is requested by a browser.
The post editor is another criterion a blogger may
want to investigate carefully before selecting
blogging software. The post editor refers to the type
of editor which will be used to fill in the posts listed
on the blog. These data entry methods may include
options such as HTML or JAVA.
Page 20

12. Blogging Software
Comparing Blogging Software Packages
Bloggers who are seeking a blogging software package should carefully compare the different
software packages available. This is important because obviously some software packages are
superior to others. It is also important because some software packages may be better suited for
the needs of a particular blog than other packages. When comparing blogging software packages
it is important for the blogger to first carefully consider the needs of the blog. This is important
because it will help the blogger to realize which
criterion is most relevant to his particular blog.
Selecting Blogging Software Packages
After carefully evaluating blogging software packages,
it is time for the blogger to make a decision and select
one of the available packages. Ideally the blogger will
have already compared important data such as
storage space, server requirements and post editors.
However, the blogger must also consider other factors
such as cost and versatility. Many blogging software
packages are available free of charge while there are
some which are available for purchase. The blogger
will have to decide whether or not it is worthwhile to
purchase a software package or whether free software packages will meet his blogging needs.
After considering software criteria and cost, the blogger should consider viewing sample blogs
created using a particular software package. This is a good idea because these samples can
provide a good indication of the capabilities of the software. This is because in general the higher
the quality of the samples, the greater the capabilities of the software.

13. Blogging Teens
Every day, blogs are created by people of all ages and from all walks of life, but when it comes to
blogging, teen writers are truly on the cutting edge of the movement. Because today's teenagers
are the first generation of people to have grown up using the internet at every stage of their
development, many adolescents have a seemingly innate sense of how to use web technology to
express their innermost thoughts and ideas. Older writers often experience a kind of learning
curve when they begin to blog, but many young people find that using a word processor and
blogging software feels more natural and direct a mode of communication than writing in a diary
ever could.
One of the reasons why blogs have undergone a kind of explosion in the teen community and are
growing by leaps and bounds is the fact that they provide a unique mixture of visibility and
anonymity. A teenager can invite friends and peers to read his or her blog with a simple email,
thereby winning attention or possibly even praise. Of course, with visibility usually comes the
possibility of embarrassment, but the fact that it is possible to blog anonymously with an
invented handle or nickname negates a lot of the potential for humiliation. Many a blogging teen
lives in fear that a parent or guardian will discover his or her blog, but by publishing under an
alias a teenager can spill his or her secrets without fear of being traced.
Outside the world of blogging, teen writers often have very
limited opportunities to be published. Magazines and journals
are often reticent to publish young writers who may not have
as much credibility as older writers with a lot of experience and
extensive credits to their names. This can discourage
adolescents from writing or from seeking chances to publish
their work. By blogging, young people can begin to gain a
following of readers without first having to win the attention
and support of an editor or publisher who may not be very
interested in teenaged authors.
Between the fact that blogs provide young people with a
chance to exercise their impressive technical aptitude, to gain
visibility without compromising privacy, and to build a readership for their writing without having
to jump through the traditional hoops of the publishing industry, it is little wonder that are so
many teenagers with blogs. For some teenagers, blogging is even a very social endeavor that
allows them to meet people with similar interests from all over the world. Many a blogging teen
has discovered that having a weblog on the internet
is a great way to explore self-expression and, often,
to win positive feedback from new friends.

14. Blogging to Promote a Cause
While many bloggers maintain a blog for personal or social reasons or to generate an income, there
are other bloggers who utilize their blogs to promote a cause. These blogs may be aimed at targeting
a specific political or social cause depending on the interests of the blogger as well as blogger’s opinion
that the blog can produce the political or social changes they are seeking. Blogs which are committed
to promoting a particular cause may face more adversity than blogs with a lighter theme but they can
also be very effective. However, blog owners who opt to maintain this type of blog should be aware of
the ramifications of this type of blog. For example blog owners may receive negative comments from
readers of the blog who disagree with the cause. This article will offer a few tips for choosing a cause
for a blog and for promoting the blog to interested visitors.
Choosing a Cause for a Blog
Choosing a cause for a blog can vary in difficulty from extremely easy to incredibly difficult. The
difficulty in making this decision will depend largely on the personal beliefs of the blog owner. A blog
owner who is already committed to a particular cause will likely find this decision to be rather simple
while blog owners who either have no strong social or political convictions or who have a wide variety
of causes they wish to promote can find making this decision to be rather difficult. There are, however,
a few factors the blog owner should carefully consider before selecting a cause to promote in a blog.
First and foremost a blog owner should select an issue for which they are either already quite
knowledgeable or for which they are willing to do a great deal of research. This is important because
the blog owner should post blog entries on a regular basis. These blog entries should be accurate and
informative to the reader. Therefore, the blog owner should be well versed in the subject matter or at
least interested in learning more about the subject matter.
Blog owners should also carefully consider the potential for influencing blog visitors regarding the topic
of the blog. Although it will not be possible to convince all visitors to the blog to believe in the cause
promoted by the blog, the blog owner should select a subject with which he is confident visitors to the
blog will be influenced to agree with the viewpoints he presents in the blog.
Promoting the Blog to Interested Visitors
Once a blog owner decides on a subject for the blog, it is time to figure out how to promote the blog
to the target audience. This can be accomplished in a number of different ways. For the sake of
brevity, this article will discuss promoting a blog through search engine optimization and promoting a
blog through participation in relevant forums.
Search engine optimization is a very effective way for promoting a blog. This practice involves making
efforts to increase the search engine rankings to ensure interested Internet users are directed to the
blog. This can be done in a number of different ways including careful use of appropriate keywords,
appropriate use of tags such as title tags and image
tags and generating back links to the blog. All of these
efforts can help to improve search engine rankings
which should also improve blog traffic.
Blog owners can also promote their blog by
participating in relevant forums and message boards.
The blog owner may simply participate in these forums
and offer relevant input while including a link to the
blog in his signature. Other forum users are likely to
click on the link if the blog owner is well respected
within the forum. The blog owner may even be able to
incorporate a link to his blog in the message body of
forum posts if it appropriate and acceptable
according toe the message board guidelines.

15. Blogging with Blogger
Blogger is one of the many options available to bloggers who are looking for free blog software. This
website located at the following web address: http://www.blogger.com offers registered users the
opportunity to publish their own blog free of charge. The website also has templates the blogger can
use to create his blog and even enables bloggers to easily place Google advertisements on their blog
and coordinates an AdSense account for the users so they can potentially earn a profit from their blog.
This article will discuss the history of Blogger as well as the terms of service.
The History of Blogger
Blogger began in 1999 with a small group of friends in the San Francisco area who ran a company
called Pyra Labs. These friends did not set out to create a network of bloggers but nevertheless
Blogger emerged from their efforts. The three friends who developed bloggers were programmers who
toiled away for others in an effort to fund their own endeavors. As previously mentioned a blog
network was not their original goal but the friends were intrigued by the idea as it emerged and found
others were interested too as their concept quickly took off and new members were joining everyday.
Like most Internet entrepreneurs of this time period, they experienced setbacks but continued to
persevere.
In 2002 Blogger was doing well but got an unexpected surprise when Google expressed interest in
purchasing Pyra Labs. Google was interested in the upswing in the blogging community and the
members of Pyra Lab sold their company enabling Google to take over the operation. Since taking
over Google introduced the concept of AdSense advertising campaigns on blogs which has been
generating profits for Google and bloggers alike. Blogger not only offers members templates to create
a blog and voice their opinions on the Internet but also simplifies the process of placing AdSense
advertisements on the blog.
Blogger Terms of Service
The Terms of Service of Blogger are susceptible to change but there are a few basic terms which users
can expect to exist. The Terms of Service for Blogger provides explanations of items such as the
services offered, description of proper use of the services, privacy policies, an explanation of
intellectual property rights, cause for termination and information regarding the legal jurisdiction of
the website. Members of Blogger are advised to carefully review these policies before becoming a
member and to be sure they understand and agree to all of these terms. If the potential member is
unsure about the meaning of one or more of the terms, he should contact Blogger to seek clarification
on the Terms of Service.
Members of Blogger should also be aware that the Terms of Service may change and should review
these terms periodically to ensure there have been no changes made which will adversely impact the
member.
Members of Blogger should pay particular attention to
the section of the Terms of Service which specify
causes for termination of a member’s account. This
information is important because it will help to prevent
the member from inadvertently performing an action
which may result in his account being terminated or
suspended. Blogger is not required to inform the
member of the infractions before suspending the
account so a member will likely lose his account before
he is even aware he has violated the Terms
of Service agreement. ❉❉❉

16. Blogging for Profit
Blogging is becoming an increasingly popular way for
entrepreneurs to earn a living online while doing
something they really enjoy. In many cases bloggers
can profit with very little effort. There may be quite a
bit of work involved in the beginning with designing a
method of gaining revenue and promoting the website
but once this is established simply maintaining the
blog with regular postings may be enough to keep the
revenue rolling in. Two of the most popular methods
for generating a profit from blogging include
advertising methods. This includes advertising with
AdSense and securing independent advertisers. This
article will discuss these two methods of advertising
on a blog.
Using AdSense to Generate Revenue
Using AdSense is one of the most popular ways for bloggers to generate revenue from their blog.
This method is so popular because it is also very simple. AdSense is a program offered by Google
where bloggers agree to have advertisements on their website and are compensated when users
click on these advertisements. Bloggers simply have to create a blog and submit the website
address of the blog as well as some other information to apply for participation in AdSense. Once
a blog is approved the owner is given code they can simply copy and paste to have
advertisements displayed on their blog. Google then serves appropriate advertisements each
time the blog is accessed. Whenever possible, the advertisements served on the blog are closely
related to the content of the blog because Google crawls the website ahead of time to determine
which advertisements are relevant to the content. Blog owners do have some ability to place
restrictions on the types of advertisements which may appear on the blog. For example the blog
owner can specify adult advertisements are not to appear on the blog and Google will filter these
out.
How Advertisements on a Blog Generate Revenue
Many bloggers use advertisements on their blogs to generate a profit. This method of advertising
is more difficult than using AdSense but it can be significantly more financially beneficial to the
blogger. This method of advertising is similar to the type of targeted advertising often seen in
magazines. For example magazines for parents often feature advertisements which will appeal to
parents such as advertisements for toys, children’s
clothing or foods popular with children. Likewise a
magazine for runners may feature advertisements
for shoes, athletic clothing, races or training
equipment. In these cases the advertisers pay for
advertising space in the magazine in the hopes that
the magazine’s audience will be enticed to purchase
products or services after seeing these
advertisements.
Page 25
BGT Info Solutions
16. Blogging for Profit
Blog owners can use this type of advertising but it can be hard to find willing advertisers.
However, there are some factors which may
make an advertiser more willing to have an
advertisement appear on a blog. One of the most
important factors for advertisers is the amount of
traffic the blog receives. This is important
because advertisers who are paying for ad space
are more likely to invest in a blog with high traffic
than one with very little traffic.
Another important factor for advertisers is the
focus of the blog. Advertisers are more likely to
purchase advertising space from a blog with a
specific focus of interest to the advertiser’s target
audience. Like the examples listed previously of
magazines for parents and runners, advertisers
want to advertise on a blog which is already
reaching the same target audience.
Bloggers who utilize advertising on their website may be compensated in a number of different
ways. Some advertisers may pay a set fee for the advertisement to run on the website for either
a set amount of time or for a set number of page views. This means the advertiser may purchase
space for a set number of days, weeks or months or may purchase space for a set number of
times the advertisement is served to website visitors.
Alternately the advertiser may choose to compensate the blogger according to the number of
times specific actions occur. This may include users clicking through the advertisement or users
making a purchase after clicking through the advertisement. The type of compensation offered
will have to be worked out between the blogger and advertiser beforehand to determine a fair
method of payment.

17. Careers in Blogging
Many freelance writers are beginning to find blogging is one of the newest career opportunities
available to them. Blogging is essentially a series of postings on a particular subject which are
listed in reverse chronological order. These blogs may be about a variety of different subjects and
may be personal, political, informative, humorous or any other category desired by the blogger.
However, the key to a successful blog is a blog which
pertains to a subject which appeals to a wide audience.
Additionally the blog should be updated regularly and
should provide useful content to the readers of the blog.
This article will provide some information on finding
career opportunities in blogging, will discuss the benefits
of this type of career and will provide information on how
writers can manage a blog successfully.
Finding Blogging Career Opportunities
Although blogging career opportunities are becoming
increasingly popular, many writers are not aware of how
to find these wonderful opportunities. These career
opportunities may be offered as ghost writing positions or as positions offering a byline to the
writer and finding these blogging opportunities is often very similar to finding any other career
opportunities for writers. Companies seeking a blogger may post the job opening in the same
manner in which they would post other openings with the company such as accounting positions
or administrative positions. Therefore, writers interested in a position as a blogger should utilize
the same job search websites they rely on to find other career opportunities.
Bloggers may also wish to visit career websites and message boards which focus exclusively on
careers in blogging. The ProBlogger.net website is just one example of a website dedicated
exclusively to putting bloggers in connection with those who are interested in hiring a writer for a
particular blog. Interested bloggers should also consider joining message boards for those who
blog for a living. This can be beneficial because here bloggers are likely to share information
regarding the companies for which they work as well as any information they have about
companies who are currently looking to hire bloggers.
The Benefits of a Career in Blogging
There are many benefits to pursuing a career in blogging. Perhaps one of the most alluring
benefits to a career in blogging is the work can
typically be done as a telecommute position. This is
because as long as the blogger has access to the
software necessary to write and upload a blog, there
is no need for the blogger to perform the work from
a specific location. This means the blogger can
reside virtually anywhere in the world and can likely
perform the necessary work from his own home.
However, not all blogging positions are telecommute
positions. Some companies may require bloggers to
perform the work onsite as a matter of personal
preference.
Page 27

17. Careers in Blogging
Another benefit to a career in blogging is the ability to accomplish work at a pace which his
convenient to the blogger. The blogger may be required to upload a new post to the blog
according to a regular schedule but the actually writing of the posts can be accomplished when it
is convenient for the blogger. Many blogging software packages enable the blogger to set a
specific time for a specific post to be uploaded. This allows the blogger to write several posts at a
time and have them publish according to a pre-determined schedule.
Finding Time to Blog
One of the problems which many bloggers face is finding the time to blog. This is especially
difficult if the blogger maintains several blogs or if the blogger maintains a current events blog in
which posts must be timely in order to be relevant and of interest to the readers. Writing blog
posts in batches and scheduling them to publish as
needed is one way to deal with managing several
blogs. However, writers of blogs related to current
events must take special care to budget their time
wisely to ensure they are publishing topical blog
posts. One way this can be accomplished is by
setting aside time daily to reading current events
to derive inspiration and then scheduling time
after that to write and publish the blog. For
example a blogger with a current events blog
might choose to review the previous day’s news
the first thing in the morning to ensure they are
reviewing all of the relevant news from the
previous day before writing the blog post.

18. Choosing The Right Free Blogging Tools
There are many free blogging tools on the market, but loading up your blog with all of the free
accessories that you can find isn't necessarily a good idea. While it may be tempting to add a
visitor counter, a flashy background, an exciting new font, and a cluster of quirky animated gifs
to your blog, this kind of plan can easily backfire. The key to getting the most from free blog
tools is being selective.
It is a great idea to learn about all of the kinds of free blogging tools that are available so that
you can make an informed decision about what to add to
your blog, but try to remember that just because you can
have something doesn't mean that you need it. Practice
restraint and only choose the options that you think will
really be useful. If you can find out how many visitors are
reading your blog by checking your traffic statistics, a
visitor counter is likely to add unnecessary clutter to your
page. If your blog is text-based, a flashy background can
be more of a distraction than a benefit. Be realistic about
assessing what kinds of blog accessories will help you
realize your vision and improve your site. Remember that even a blog tool that doesn't cost you
any cash may not be an asset in the long run.

19. Dealing with Comments on Your Blog
Most blogs allow visitors to the blog to post comments on any of the blog posts. These comments
may pertain to the blog posting or may be completely unrelated. The comments may also be
positive or negative in nature. Regardless of the type of comment left by a visitor the blogger may
choose to deal with these comments in a number of different ways. The blogger may answer these
comments, block individual visitors from leaving comments in the future or use administrative
features to delete comments or set the blog to require approval of the comments before they are
posted on the blog. This article will discuss each of these options for dealing with comments on a
blog in greater detail.
Answering Comments on Your Blog
Bloggers who receive comments on their blog may wish to answer these comments. Most blogging
programs allow the blogger to post comments on his own blog which enables the blogger to answer
comments directly. With this feature a blogger can deal with a number of different situations
including negative comments, positive comments and questions. Bloggers who receive negative
comments on their blog may opt to answer these comments directly with a rebuttal to the negative
comments. This allows the blogger to recognize the criticism and defend his original post. Bloggers
who receive positive comments may also wish to answer these comments to thank the visitors for
the praise. Still other bloggers may receive comments which ask a question about the blog post or
the blogger himself. Bloggers may opt to answer these questions to develop a better relationship
with the blog visitors.
Blocking Comments from Individual Visitors
Another option for dealing with blog comments which are negative in nature is to block comments
from individual blog visitors. In most cases bloggers will have the ability to blog a particular user
from leaving comments on the blog. The blogger may wish to use this option in situations where
the comments from the blog visitor are extremely mean spirited. The blogger may also wish to ban
individual blog visitors from making comments if he has previously attempted to explain his point
to the visitor but the visitor continues to post negative comments. A blogger may also wish to ban
an individual blog visitor from making comments if he believes the comments are being left as
spam.
Using Administrative Features
Still another option for dealing with comments on a blog includes using administrative features to
delete comments or modify the settings to not allow comments to be displayed until the blogger
approves them. Blog owners typically have the ability to delete a comment left by a blog visitor.
Deleting these comments is usually a quite simple process. However, it is not a completely effective
method because other blog visitors may have the opportunity to read these comments before they
are deleted. Therefore, deleting the comment may prevent
some visitors from reading the comment but will not ensure
the comment is not seen by any blog visitors. However,
there is a way for bloggers to make sure visitors do not
read negative comments. Most types of blogging software
have options which require the blogger to approve all
comments before they become available to the public. This
gives the blogger the ability to delete a comment before it
is read by any of the blog visitors. The blogger can simply
delete any comments they do not wish others to
read before the comments are published.

20. Design Elements of a Blog
A blog may be essentially an online journal displayed in reverse chronological order but it is also a
website which requires the same attention to detail any other website requires. It also requires the
same design elements as a regular website which does not also function as a blog. Bloggers have
decisions to make regarding design elements of the blog such as colors and layout, fonts and the
inclusion of advertisements. Although many blog software programs provide a variety of templates
which make designing a blog rather simple, blogs can also be highly customized by bloggers who
possess some programming skills. This article will discuss some of the basic design considerations
bloggers encounter.
Colors and Layouts of a Blog
The colors and layout of a blog is one of the most obvious design considerations bloggers must
consider when starting or re-designing their blog. Bloggers may use a solid color background,
blocks of different colors in the background or pictures or textures in the background. These
background elements can be any color imaginable. However, bloggers who are considering the
colors to use in their blog should consider using colors which will be aesthetically appealing to most
blog visitors. This is important because the use of garish colors which are harsh on the eye can
result in diminished blog traffic.
The layout of the blog should also carefully be considered by the blogger. The blog should be
arranged in a fashion which is appealing to blog visitors, suits the subject of the blog and is
presented in a logical manner which is easy for visitors to follow. Again, this is important because
failure to use a layout which meets these criteria may result in blog visitors choosing not to visit
the blog anymore because the layout is confusing or unappealing.
Fonts Used in a Blog
Bloggers have a number of options available to them when selecting fonts to use in their blog.
These options include the font chosen, the text size and the color of the text. Bloggers should
consider choosing a font which works well with the overall design of the layout of the blog and suits
the subject matter of the blog but also is a font which common. This is important because blog
visitors may have trouble viewing the font if the blogger selects a unique font which is not common.
The text size and colors of the text should also be carefully considered. These elements are
primarily important for readability. Text size should be set so members of the target audience can
easily read the text. For example a blogger with senior citizens as the target audience may opt to
use a text size slightly larger than usual. The colors used for the text should also be selected to
enhance readability. One way to do this is to select colors which are appealing to the eye but also
contrast with the background color.
Inclusion of Advertisements in a Blog
Bloggers must also consider the inclusion of advertisements
when they are designing their blogs. This includes
determining whether or not to include blogs. Once this
decision is made, bloggers who opt to include
advertisements must carefully consider how and where they
wish to display these advertisements. Advertisements can
be displayed in various locations throughout the blog and
can be designed to be discrete or obvious depending on the
preferences of the blogger. Advertisements can also be a
variety of sizes and shapes and are highly customizable in a
number of different ways.

21. Finding Blogs to Read
There is a wide variety of blogs currently available. Internet users are fortunate to have a large
number of blogs to choose from when seeking a blog to read regularly. There are also often many
blogs available which cover a particular subject. Blogs can be about any subject imaginable. Some
blogs are created to entertain while others are created to inform. Some blogs are created to generate
a profit while other blogs are created to help others. With so many blogs currently available online it
can be difficult to determine which blogs are worth reading and which are not. It can also make it
difficult to limit the number of blogs the Internet user reads. This article will provide information on
finding and selecting blogs to read including using search engines to find blogs, finding blogs through
participation in message boards and seeking recommendations for blogs from friends or family
members.
Using Search Engines to Find Blogs
Search engines are one of the most reliable resources Internet users often rely on to find useful
websites. However, it is important to note search engines can also be extremely helpful for Internet
users who are interested in finding blogs to read. An Internet user who is looking for a blog on a
particular subject can start the process of finding these blogs by entering relevant keywords or
phrases into a popular search engine and carefully reviewing the results provided for this search.
However, this type of search will not necessarily provide the Internet users with blogs. In fact the
search results may not include a blog on any of the first few pages in the search results despite
returning pages upon pages of links to useful websites.
One simple way the Internet user can use search engines to find blogs relating to a particular subject
is to include the word blog with the keywords or phrases entered into the search engine. This will help
to filter the search results and may push blogs towards the front of search results. However, Internet
users are better off searching for collections of blogs and then searching within these collections for
ones of interest.
Finding Blogs on Message Boards
Many Internet users rely on message boards to find interesting and informative blogs. This is because
many message board participants who have a blog often find ways to make others aware of this blog.
This may either be through the process of incorporating a link to the blog in the message board user’s
signature or, when appropriate, supplying the link to the blog directly in the message body of a post
on the message board. Although many bloggers may take advantage of the opportunity to promote
their own blog through message boards, those who are interested in finding new blogs will likely not
have time to review all of these blogs. Therefore, it is wise for these Internet users to be somewhat
discriminating about the blogs they choose to visit. One way to do this is to only visit blogs of regular
forum posters who offer valuable information to the conversations on the message board. The Internet
user may also wish to avoid blogs which appear to be posted as spam. This is important because these
blogs are not only likely poor quality but also visiting these blogs only encourages the blog owner to
continue to spam message boards with his link.
Seeking Recommendations for Blogs
Finally, Internet users who are seeking blogs to read on a
regular basis can consider seeking recommendations from
friends or family members who share a particular interest.
Friends or family members who are interested in the same
subject as you may already regularly read blogs relevant to
this interest. Asking them for recommendations is
worthwhile because they have no reason to do anything but
recommend blogs they really enjoy and assume you will be
interested in as well. Also, this method of finding blogs is
ideal because your friends and family members likely know
your tastes and expectations well and will likely
steer you in the right direction.

22. Finding Your Blogging Niche
Finding your blogging niche should be one of the aspects of blogging which the blogger carefully
considers before starting a blog. This is especially important if the blogging is being done for the
purpose of financial compensation. Ideally a blog owner should select a blog subject about which
they are passionate and knowledgeable. However, bloggers should also carefully consider the direct
competition as well as the purpose of the blog before starting their blog. This article will discuss
these considerations in greater detail in an attempt to assists bloggers in choosing a subject for a
new blog. This information is applicable to both bloggers who are completely new to blogging as
well as experienced bloggers who are considering starting a new blog.
Isolating Your Interests
One of the first considerations for a new blogger is his personal interests. This is important because
a blogger who is passionate and knowledgeable about a particular subject will not only have an
easy time coming up with ideas for new blog posts but will also likely be highly successful. This
success will likely be attributable to the fact that blog visitors can sense his passion for the subject
matter and greatly appreciate the knowledgeable posts which are informative and accurate.
The interests of the blogger may run the gamut from subjects which are widely popular to subjects
which are of interest to only a small subset of the population. However, there will likely be
interested readers regardless of the subject of the blog. Therefore bloggers are not discouraged
from opting to blog about even the most obscure subjects. However, bloggers who are seeking
financial gain through high blog traffic should consider selecting a topic which appeals to a larger
audience.
Evaluating the Competition
Once a blogger has selected one or more subjects he is considering for a blog, it is time to begin
evaluating the competition. This includes viewing other blogs covering the same subject matter.
This will not only give the blogger a good indication of whether or not the market is already
saturated with blogs on this subject and the quality of the existing blogs on this subject. Based on
this information the blogger can make an informed decision about whether or not he feels capable
of competing for blog traffic with the existing blogs.
Considering the Purpose of the Blog
Another important consideration for bloggers is the purpose of the blogs. Blogs can be created for a
variety of reasons including financial compensation, personal use or to promote a cause. Bloggers
who are starting a blog for personal use may only wish to consider their own interests when
starting a blog because they are not likely seeking high blog traffic. However, bloggers who are
creating a blog for purposes of generating a profit or promoting a cause do have to consider factors
such as the ability to generate blog traffic. In these cases
the blogger should choose a subject which appeals to a
large audience. Additionally, the Internet should not
already be saturated with blogs on this subject because it
will likely be difficult for the new blog to garner a share of
blog traffic. Finally, blog owners should consider the
quality of the blog they are capable of creating on a
particular subject. The blogger should choose a subject
where he is confident he can not only make regular posts
but also ensure these posts are original, informative and
interesting.

23. How to Learn Blogging Software
A lot of blogging software is specifically designed to be simple to use, but even the least
intimidating blogging program can feel very overwhelming to somebody who has not spent a lot
of time learning the ins and outs of different kinds of software. Particularly for newer bloggers,
learning how to use the interface of blogging software is the most difficult part of blogging. If you
are somebody who feels comfortable expressing themselves in another medium, it may prove to
be well worth your time and effort to learn blogging software, but that doesn't mean that the
task will be easy.
The main thing that will help you find
success as you learn how to use a new
kind of blogging software is to try and
take things slowly. Many people get so
excited about learning to blog that they
try to rush into the thick of it and start
exploring the most complicated features
of a program right away. This can lead
to getting confused and feeling
frustrated, and all too many potential
bloggers burn out during this stage of
the process. If you take your time
learning the basics of your blog software
program before you move on to more
advanced techniques, you will be more likely to retain what you have learned, and to keep feeling
positive about your ability to understand the world of blogging.

24. If You are Already Blogging, Money May be Just a
Click Away
If you already spend a fair amount of time blogging, money may come to you literally as soon as
you ask for it. Once you have an established blog with a regular readership, it is easy to turn a
profit through advertising. By hosting sponsored links or banners, you can see income from your
hobby almost overnight. Even if you did not start your blog intending to turn a profit, making
supplementary income from your blog may be easier than you think.
Of course, even for people who have spent months
or years blogging, money from advertising revenue
may not add up to a large sum. The amount of
money that you can make as a blogger depends on a
lot of different factors, but perhaps the most
important element of the equation is the topic of
your blog. If your blog is on a subject that appeals to
a demographic that advertisers have a strong desire
to reach, you will be more likely to be able to turn a
large profit on your blog than if your blog is on a
fairly obscure subject that does not draw the kind of
audience that advertisers need to appeal to. Of
course, the only way to find out where you fall on
this spectrum is to try hosting some ads. If you are
already blogging, you have nothing to lose.

25. Improving the Search Engine Rankings of Your Blog
Bloggers who are interested in reaching a large audience with their blog should consider paying
special attention to search engine optimization of their blog. Reaching a large audience may be a
priority for a number of different reasons. One of the obvious reasons to attempt to generate
increased traffic to a blog is to generate a profit. Bloggers who rely on high blog traffic for their
revenue are obviously interested in increasing traffic. However, bloggers who create their blog to
promote a cause may also be interested in increasing traffic simply to allow their message to
reach a larger audience. Regardless of the reason to want to increase traffic, one of the best
ways to do this is by optimizing the blog for search engines. This article will discuss the
importance of search engine rankings and offer tips for optimizing a blog.
Why Search Engine Rankings are Important
The importance of high search engine rankings is they
can contribute to increased Internet traffic to the blog.
This is because Internet users who use search engines
to find information on a particular topic are much
more likely to visit websites which appear on the first
page of the search results than they are to visit
websites which appear on subsequent pages of the
search results. The websites appearing on the first
page of the results are likely to get the most traffic.
However, Internet users are not likely to search
through more than a page or two of the search results
when looking for more information on a particular
subject.
High search engine rankings essentially act as free advertisement for a blog or website. This is
because many website users rely on popular search engines to assist them in finding useful
information on the Internet. The search engines apply complex algorithms to evaluate websites
and rank them accordingly for specific search terms. As a result Internet users put a great deal of
value on the search results produced and trust these results to lead them to the best available
websites relevant to the keywords they specified in the search.
Tips for Optimizing a Blog for Search Engines
One of the most common ways to optimize a blog or
website for search engines is through the use of
relevant keywords. Specifically the practice of
applying specific keyword densities to the content of
the blog is a common search engine optimization
tactic employed. Blog owners and others who
attempt to optimize their websites do not always
agree on the optimal density for keywords but many
believe a percentage of approximately 2%-3% is
appropriate.
Page 36
All About Blogging In a Nutshell
25. Improving the Search Engine Rankings of Your Blog
Another method for optimizing a search engine optimization is to place relevant keywords into
the code of the website. This includes the title tags and META tags. This is important because
search engines often consider the prominence of keywords when evaluating a website. This refers
to the location in which the keywords first appear. Placing keywords early in the content of the
website is helpful but it is important to note the search engines view the code first so keywords
appearing before the body of the blog will be crawled first by the search engines.
Blog owners can also help to increase their
search engine rankings by generating back
links to their blog. This can be accomplished
in a number of different ways. One way to do
this is to find other websites willing to place a
link to the blog on their website. This is
beneficial because many search engines factor
the number of links to a website into their
ranking algorithm because these links are
considered to be one website vouching for the
validity of another website. Some website
owners may be willing to do this in return for
a link to their website on your blog. This is
known as reciprocal linking and some search
engines may not value this link as highly as a
link which is not reciprocated. There are also some link exchange programs but these links may
not be beneficial because many search engines consider the rank of the website linking to your
blog. Therefore, if the website linking to your blog does not rank well, the back link will not
improve search engine rankings significantly.

26. Is Blogging For Everyone?
Blogging is a relatively new phenomenon. It basically involves the creation of an online journal
which is displayed in reverse chronological order. The blogger who is maintaining the blog may
opt to post new blog entries as often as he desires. This may involve posting new entries more
than once per day, daily, weekly, monthly or even at a less frequent interval. The postings in a
blog are typically related in some way but they can be about any subject the blogger desires.
Bloggers may maintain a blog for a number of different reasons and these blogs may be private
or public in nature. This article will describe the difference between a private and public blog and
will also explain blogging professionally as well as blogging for personal reasons.
Private vs. Public Blogs
Blogs can also be private or public. Private blogs are ones in which only the blogger and others
who have been approved by the blogger can view the blog postings. Public blogs are available to
any users of the Internet. A blogger may opt to make a blog private or public depending on
whether or not he is comfortable with others reading the blog. For example a blogger who
creates a blog for the purpose of venting about frustrations in life may opt to keep a blog private
so friends or family members are not able to read these vents. Conversely a blogger who is
blogging for a purpose such as to promote a cause will likely opt to make the blog public so his
message can reach as many Internet users as possible. However, bloggers who create a blog to
express themselves through their writing, poetry or other form of expression may opt to make
the blog private or public depending on whether or not they want to make these personal feelings
available to others. Some bloggers in this situation will make the blog public because they want
to reach others who may either share their feelings or may benefit from reading their blogs.
There may be other bloggers in this situation who will make the blog private because they do not
want others to see these personal forms of expression.
Blogging Professionally
Blogging can actually be done as a source of income for some bloggers. There are a number of
companies who maintain a network of bloggers and pay bloggers to maintain a blog in the
network. These bloggers may be compensated per post, according to the number of page views
the blog receives or through a combination of the number of posts and the number of page views.
A career as a blogger requires a great deal of dedication. The blogger must be willing and able to
update the blog regularly and to keep the blog interesting to readers.
Blogging for Personal Reasons
Blogging can also be done for personal reasons.
Some bloggers use their blog to stay in touch with
family and friends while others use it to express
themselves or to share information with others.
Blogs created for personal reasons can be a great
deal of fun but the blogger must be sure to avoid
allowing the process of maintaining the blog to
become a stressful situation. A blog which is
maintained for personal reasons should be an
enjoyable experience for the blogger.

27. Learning about Blogging
There are a number of different reasons for a blogger to start and maintain a blog. Some of these
reasons include generating revenue, promoting a cause, providing useful information and staying
in touch with family and friends. Although these reasons for starting a blog may be quite different,
all bloggers should spend some time learning about blogging before embarking on a blogging
experience. This will help to ensure the blog achieves its intended purpose and will also help to
prevent the blogger from making mistakes which can be detrimental to a blog. This article will
discuss methods for learning about blogging including studying successful blogs and using the
Internet to research the subject of blogging. This article will also briefly explain the importance of
promoting a blog.
Studying Successful Blogs
One of the simplest ways for prospective bloggers and new
bloggers to learn about blogging is by studying successful
blogs. Those who have recently started a blog or are
considering starting a blog can learn a great deal simply
by reading and studying successful blogs. Bloggers may
choose to study blogs which focus on a similar subject but
this is not necessary. Bloggers can learn a great deal
about maintaining a successful blog by studying blogs
related to any subject. This is because factors such as
writing style, blog design, font type and colors can all
contribute to the success of the blog.
In studying other blogs, the blogger should pay particular interest to aspects of the blog which
attract his attention. This is important because these aspects also likely appeal to other blog
visitors and contribute to the success of the blog. Modeling a blog with these aspects in mind can
go a long way towards contributing to the success of a blog.
Using the Internet to Research Blog Tips
The Internet can be an excellent resource for learning about the subject of blogging. There are a
variety of different objects related to this subject. These articles may contain tips for starting,
maintaining and optimizing a blog. They may also
contain tips for generating traffic to a blog and
keeping visitors interested in the blog. Bloggers are
advised to study the information available online
carefully and to always consider the source of the
information. Considering the source of the
information is important because it can help to
ensure the information gleaned from the Internet is
reliable. However, this can be difficult because it is
not always possible to determine the source of
information available on the Internet.
Page 39
BGT Info Solutions
27. Learning about Blogging
Another option for verifying the validity of information available online is use other sources to
confirm the information. This means a blogger may find one article which provides several tips
for operating a successful blog but still searches online for information which will corroborate the
information available in the original article. This may sound redundant but it can help to prevent
the blogger from accepting false information as being correct.
The Importance of Promoting a Blog
Finally, bloggers should understand the importance of promoting a blog and should investigate
methods of promoting their own blog. Promoting a blog is so important because it is through this
type of promotion that a blog gains traffic. Gaining traffic is
imperative to the success of a blog in most cases. The few
exceptions include blogs which are maintained solely for the
bloggers personal use as well as blogs which are maintained
for the purpose of keeping friends and family members up to
date on events in the bloggers life. All other blogs can benefit
from increased blog traffic.
Bloggers can learn about how to successfully promote a blog
by considering how they learned about blogs which they read
frequently. This is significant because Internet users who read
blogs likely have similar methods of finding these blogs. For
example a blog reader who learned about an interesting blog
through participation in a relevant message board will likely
consider remaining active in message boards which are relevant to his own blog as a method of
promoting his blog.

28. Types of Costs
Direct costs are those costs that cann be directly attributed to a product or product line, or to one
source of sales revenue, or one business unit or operation of the business. An example of a direct
cost would be the cost of tires on a new automobile.
Indirect costs are very different and can't be attached to any specific product, unit or activity.
The cost of labor or benefits for an auto manufacturer is certainly a cost, but it can't be attached
to any one vehicle. Each business has to devise a method of allocating indirect costs to different
products, sources of sales revenue, business units, etc. Most allocation methods are less than
perfect, and generally end up being arbitrary to one degree or another. Business managers and
accounts should always keep an eye on the allocation methods used for indirect costs and take
the cost figures produced by these methods with a grain of salt.
Fixed costs are those costs that stay the same over a
relatively broad range of sales volume or production
output. They're like an albatross around the neck of
business and a company must sell its product at a high
enough profit to at least break even.
Variable costs can increase and decrease in proportion
to changes in sales or production level. Variable costs
vary proportionately with changes in production/
Relevant costs are essentially future costs that could be incurred, depending on what strategic
course a business takes. If an auto manufacturer decides to increase production, but the cost of
tires goes up, than that cost needs to be taken into consideration.
Irrelevant costs are those that should be disregarded when deciding on a future course of action.
They're costs that could cause you to make a wrong decision. Whereas relevant costs are future
costs, irrelevant costs are those costs that were incurred in the past. The money's gone.

29. Learning How to Make Money Blogging
There are two major types of business models that entrepreneurs use to make money blogging.
The first and most common way to turn a blog into a profit making machine is to sell advertising
to different companies and brands who want to reach that blog's readers. The second kind of
money making blog is one that helps a single brand improve its image by creating positive
associations between the blog and the product in the mind of consumers. Both kinds of blogs can
make a lot of money, especially if the creator has a keen mind for marketing.
If you are blogging with the goal of selling advertising, there are
two basic ways that you can go about recruiting sponsors who want
to put ads on your site; you can let someone else do all of the
legwork, or you can do the work yourself and keep all of the
revenue. Within the first group, many people make money blogging
by selling space through Google's AdSense program. The
advantages of this program are numerous, as it requires very little
effort on the part of the blogger or webmaster to begin raking in
profits. However, most people discover that they make less money
through this method than they had hoped that their blog would
earn.
Selling advertising directly to companies who want to put banner
ads or sponsored links on your blog can take quite a bit of time, but
it is often fairly lucrative. If you have a lot of contacts in industries
that are related to the topic of your blog, you may want to try to go
this route. People who have a strong background in sales and are experienced at pitching
proposals can make quite a bit of money by renting blog space to interested companies. The
most serious problem with this model is that you often have to build quite a sizable readership
before you can attract advertisers, which can mean that you have to do several months of work
before you start to make money blogging.
As blogging becomes a more and more lucrative business, a lot of established companies are
considering how they can get into the action. One way that companies are capitalizing on the
blog movement is by having blogs that provide a kind of friendly face for their corporation. Often,
a company will employ an established blogger to create a weblog designed specifically to appeal
to that company's customers and to create positive associations with the brand in consumers'
minds. More than one writer who never even dreamed that he or she could make money blogging
has been approached by a company and offered
quite a pretty penny for this kind of gig.

30. Maintaining a Successful Blog
Creating a blog is relatively simply. However, maintaining a successful blog is a far more difficult
process. This is because there are so many different factors which can contribute to the success
of a blog. Some of these factors include the subject of the blog, the popularity of the blog and
even the aesthetic layout of the blog. Additionally, the ability to properly promote the blog and
reach a large audience of interested Internet users will also have a profound impact on the
success of a blog. Although there is no one simple formula for creating and maintaining a
successful blog, there are some basic tips which can help to ensure a blogger will enjoy success
with his blog. This article will outline some of these basic tips including posting new entries
regularly, writing for a specific audience and properly evaluating changes made to the blog.
Posting New Blog Entries Regularly
The importance of posting new blog entries on
a regular basis cannot be underestimated. This
is so important because regular postings offer
dedicated blog visitors an incentive to keep
returning to the blog. Readers may visit a blog
originally by chance but become committed to
returning to the blog regularly based on the
content which is provided on a regular basis. If
the blogger allows the blog to become stagnant,
the readers do not have motivation to keep
coming back to the blog. However, if there are
new posts on a regular basis, visitors are likely to return to the blog often in anticipation of new
postings.
The length as well as the depth of a blog post can vary considerably based on the subject of the
blog and the expectations of the target audience. However, in many cases even a relatively short
blog entry offering only a small amount of information may be enough to keep readers interested.
This can be useful when the blogger is unable to provide in depth posts but in the long run, blog
readers are looking for a certain degree of sustenance and will likely expect the blog to be
updated with new posts regularly. Furthermore they will come to expect a certain voice and
quality to the blog posts so bloggers who enlist the use of guest bloggers should carefully screen
guest bloggers to ensure they are capable of posting blogs the audience will appreciate.
Understanding the Blog Audience
Successful bloggers should also be adept at
understanding the blog audience. Most successful
blogs focus on a rather exclusive niche which draws
a unique set of visitors. By keeping the information
posted in the blog related to this niche, the blogger
helps to ensure the audience will remain interested
in the blog. However, the subject matter is not the
only important aspect related to understanding the
target audience.
Page 43
BGT Info Solutions
30. Maintaining a Successful Blog
Bloggers should also be well aware of the type of information the blog readers are seeking and
the way in which they prefer to have the information provided. This is important because some
blog readers may enjoy lengthy pieces while others may prefer posts which are brief and to the
point. Still other blog visitors may prefer to have posts provided as bulleted points in an easy to
read manner. Providing the information in a way in which the visitors can process the information
easily is as important as providing quality information.
Evaluating Changes to the Blog
Finally, all successful bloggers know how to make changes to the blog carefully and evaluate the
effects these changes have on blog traffic. This is critical because a blog which is already
successful can be doomed to failure if the blogger makes a
chance which is not appreciated by the dedicated visitors
and does not address the concerns of the readers. To
avoid this potential problem bloggers should be careful to
only make one change at a time and to allow ample time
to evaluate the effect the change has on website traffic as
well as the comments from readers before deciding
whether to reverse the change or make additional changes.
Similarly a blog which is looking to increase website traffic
can run into problems if they make too many changes and
do not evaluate how these changes are affecting the blog’s
traffic. A better strategy would be to make small changes
one at a time and evaluate the effect of the change
carefully before making more changes. This will help guide
the blogger to produce a successful blog.

All About Blogging In a Nutshell
31. Managing Multiple Blogs
While some bloggers may focus exclusively on only one blog at a time, there are many bloggers who
manage to maintain several different blogs concurrently. However, not all bloggers do this successfully.
Some bloggers compromise quality of content as well as quantity of content by trying to maintain too
many blogs while other bloggers have the ability to keep several blogs up to date and interesting to
visitors. There are a few key elements to maintaining multiple successful blogs. This article will discuss
some of these elements including keeping content original, keeping blogs up to date and budgeting
time to work on each blog.
Keeping Content Original
Bloggers who maintain multiple blogs must be careful to keep the content of each blog original. Even if
the blogger maintains several related blogs it is important to ensure each of these blogs has original
blog postings. This will help to prevent blog visitors from feeling as though the information they are
receiving is not original. It will also help to prevent readers who frequently visit one or more of the
bloggers blogs from deciding to start only visiting one of the blogs because they feel the postings are
redundant.
Bloggers are also advised against stealing posts from other similar blogs. This is not only illegal but is
also not likely to help the blogger much because dedicated readers of the original blog are likely to
realize the new blog is simply stealing content from a more successful blog.
Keeping Each Blog Up to Date
Bloggers who maintain multiple blogs are also advised to ensure each blog is kept up to date. This
means they should take care to post on each blog regularly. Doing this will help to avoid problems
which stem from blog visitors feeling as though the blogs are stagnant. Even the most interesting and
informative blogs can lose traffic quickly if the blog visitors do not see new content on a regular basis.
The Internet is continually evolving and updating. As a result Internet users can afford to be finicky
and are not likely to remain dedicated to a blog which does not post new information regularly
because they can likely find other blogs available which do provide updates on a more frequent basis.
Finding Time to Work on Each Blog
Bloggers who maintain several blogs are also tasked with the dilemma of finding time to work on each
blog. However, this is very important because bloggers cannot afford to neglect one or more of their
blogs. Doing this can result in a marked decline in blog traffic. Therefore bloggers who wish to
maintain multiple blogs must budget their time carefully to ensure they are dedicating sufficient time
to each blog. This time management exercise may start out by assessing the needs of each blog.
Some blogs may require a great deal of time and effort each week to keep the blog functioning
properly while other blogs may require only a small
amount of time for the same purpose. In general blogs
which require a great deal of research will require
more time and energy of the blogger than blogs which
are based on the bloggers opinions and feelings and
are therefore not as research intensive. Once the
blogger has determined how much time it will be
required to maintain each blog, he can schedule his
time accordingly. However, he should plan to evaluate
how well each blog is operating and may have to make
adjustments to the schedule as needed. Additionally,
he may also need to make a decision to eliminate a
blog or enlist assistance in keeping the blogs updated
if necessary.

32. Mobile Blogging is on the Cutting Edge
Mobile blogging is an exciting phenomenon that is sweeping the blogosphere. One of the reasons
why a lot of bloggers are attracted to the medium of blogging in the first place is that they enjoy
being able to make frequent updates and posts that keep all of their visitors up to speed with
current situations. Mobile blogs, or "moblogs," take this to the extreme by allowing users to post
things literally as they happen. This new wave of moblogs and mobloggers keep web surfers up
to date with good and bad events of importance as they occur all over the world, helping to make
international communication faster and more accurate.
Many people feel that the limitations of blogging have a lot to do with geography. After all, there
is only so current that a blog can be when you need to run home and boot up in order to update
it. However, mobile blogging marks the beginning of an thrilling new era when web-based
communication can happen spontaneously from any location. Moblogging devices mean that
there is almost nowhere on the planet that remains off-limits for bloggers.
Mobile blogging is still in its infancy because the technology that makes it possible has only
recently hit the global market. The first moblog technology became available over a decade ago,
but it is only the past two or three years that mobile web devices have become user-friendly
enough to appeal to most consumers. As camera phones and other
mobile technology become more popular, more and more bloggers
are getting away from their desks and are hitting the streets.
Moblogging is becoming much more widespread that it was even a
few months ago, and mobloggers are quickly attracting a lot of
attention with the blogging community. It is not yet clear whether
moblogs will become the dominant kinds of blogs in the years to
come, but the current trend seems to imply that moblogs are here to
stay.
Mobile devices make it possible to blog from the sites where current
events are unfolding, which is one of the reasons why mobile
blogging has so much thrilling potential to revolutionize the
blogosphere. A moblogger with a camera phone can post blog entries
from, say, the foot of the podium at a presidential speech, or from
the stands during the final moments of the world series. This enables bloggers to experience the
same real time thrills that live television coverage provides, but in a more democratic medium.
The combination of mobility and individual control that moblogging provides certainly places
mobloggers on the cutting edge of today's
communications technology, and it is hard to
imagine that the number and prestige of moblogs
will not continue to grow in the coming
years. ❉❉❉

33. Monitoring Your Child’s Blog
Blogs are becoming increasingly popular and this popularity is not just with adults. Young
children are also becoming interested in blogging. With the advent of social networking websites
such as MySpace blogging is growing in leaps and bounds. Internet users now have a variety of
options available to them for publishing and maintaining a blog. Additionally, the growing
popularity of blogs currently available promotes an interest in blogging with other Internet users.
Children are bombarded on a daily basis with a variety of blogs available online and are
understandably interested in creating blogs of their own. In most cases children create blogs for
social reasons but there are some savvy children
who realize the potential for profit from blogging.
While there are a great deal of benefits children
can gain from blogging there are also some risks
involved. Therefore parents should carefully
monitor their child’s blog as well as all of his
Internet usage. This article will discuss the
subject of monitoring a child’s blog in greater
detail.
Discuss Blog Expectations with Children
The first step parents should take when a child is
interested in creating a blog is to thoroughly
discuss the expectations with the child. The child
and parent should have an open and honest
discussion about responsible use of the Internet.
This is important because these conversations
can lay the groundwork for how the child will behave online. There are certain dangers which
exist on the Internet but parents who understand these dangers and communicate with their
children to share this potential for danger as well as information on staying safe while online are
likely to have children who stay safe while online.
When a child is considering starting a blog, the parent should be involved in the process from the
very start. The parent should not only be aware of the child’s intention to begin blogging but
should also be aware of the child’s reason for wanting to blog and intentions for the blog. This is
important because it can help the parents to set appropriate guidelines for the blog. For example
a child may be interested in social networking
through a blog but should understand there is the
potential for danger with this type of blog. Parents
should place limitations on the content of the blog
and should advise the children to avoid disclosing
personal information such as his full name, address
and phone number on the blog. Other information
which can be used to identify and locate the child
should also be avoided.
Page 47

33. Monitoring Your Child’s Blog
Regularly Reviewing Your Child’s Blog
In addition to discussing blogging with the child and establishing ground rules for the content of
the blog, the parents should also regularly visit the blog to ensure the established rules are being
followed. Parents should review the blogs of their children on a regular basis but should not
inform the children when these reviews will take place. This will help to prevent the children from
altering the blog to eliminate questionable material during the review and replacing this material
after the review is complete. This is important because it would be rather simple for the child to
make changes quickly simply by saving files and replacing them with appropriate blog postings
during scheduled reviews.
Monitoring the Blogs Your Child Frequents
Parents should also consider regularly monitoring the blogs their
children frequent. This is important because the information
children are viewing online can be harmful to children. It is also
important because most blogs provide the opportunity for visitors
to communicate with the blogger. In most cases this
communication is in the form of comments which are left for the
blogger and the blogger may choose to respond to these comments.
In some cases the visitor may even have the opportunity to provide
personal contact information to the blogger. Parents who remain
aware of the blogs their children visit can review these blogs
carefully to ensure their children are not behaving inappropriately
online and are not inadvertently putting themselves at risk with the actions they take.

34. Optimizing Your Blog for Search Engines
Bloggers who are interested in building high traffic to their blog and maintaining a successful blog
should pay particular attention to search engine optimization techniques which can help to
improve the search engine rankings of their blogs. Search engines all employ some type of
ranking algorithm which is used to determine the order in which websites are returned when an
Internet user searches for information on a particular topic. However, not all search engines use
the same algorithm for this purpose. As a result there is no simple solution to optimizing a blog
for high rankings on all search engines. There are a few tips though which can be useful with
most search engines. These tips include using relevant keywords, generating back links to your
blogs and using image tags in a beneficial way.
The Importance of Keywords
The use of relevant keywords in blog posts is one of the most common and also one of the
simplest ways to optimize search engine rankings. However, not all bloggers agree on the best
ways to use relevant keywords to optimize search engine rankings. Some bloggers believe
keywords must be used often to create high keyword densities while others believe using
keywords at lower densities of 1%-3% and paying attention to placement of the keywords is the
most worthwhile strategy. Still other bloggers argue that simply using relevant keywords as they
come naturally in the flow of the blog posts is sufficient to ensure search engines understand the
content of the blog.
Regardless of the keyword strategy a blogger opts to employ all bloggers can benefit from
researching relevant keywords. They may have a blog which pertains to a general subject such
as gardening but may not be aware of the search terms typically used by Internet users when
researching this subject. Fortunately there are many programs available which generate related
keywords for a particular time which provides the blogger with other keywords they should
consider incorporating into the blog. For the example of a blog pertaining to gardening the
blogger may want to use additional keywords such as container gardening or home gardening to
attract more interest from search engine users.
Generating Favorable Back Links
Back links are also another common factor used in search engine ranking algorithms. Many
search engines consider the number of back links
pointing to a website as well as the quality of the
websites which provide these back links. This means
the search engine rankings of the website which
points to your blog could influence the amount of
weight the back link contributes to your own
rankings. This is because some search engines
consider higher ranking websites to be more
valuable than other websites which do not rank well
and therefore reward websites receiving back links
from these high ranking websites quite favorably.
Page 49
BGT Info Solutions
34. Optimizing Your Blog for Search Engines
Some search engine algorithms also consider whether or not the back links are reciprocated or
not reciprocated. In these cases non reciprocal links are usually considered to be more valuable
than reciprocal links. Also, back links which come from link exchanges or link farms are typically
not considered to be very influential to search engine rankings.
How Images Can Improve Search Engine Rankings
Bloggers should also be aware that any pictures used on their blog can be used to improve
search engine rankings with some search engines. This
aspect of search engine optimization is often overlooked
because many bloggers believe the pictures are not
viewed by search engines. While this is true the search
engines do crawl the code of the blog in addition to the
content on the blog. This means the search engine will
view the information provided in the image tags. Bloggers
can take advantage of this by using the image tags to
provide relevant keywords which can bolster search
engine rankings. However, care should be taken to
ensure the keywords used in these tags also accurately
describe the image because blog visitors will often see the text included in these tags when they
scroll over a picture on the blog.

35. Personal Blogging, Documentary, and History
When it comes to personal blogging, documentary is the default genre. There are plenty of blogs
that serve other functions, but many blogs are primarily catalogues of the life experiences of
their author. Although there are quite a few blogs that focus on collecting poetry and other forms
of creative writing, the vast majority of personal blogs are in some sense documentaries.
For many years, the act of making a documentary was meant to be an objective act of reporting
the sights and sounds that the filmmaker, writer, or photographer encountered. However, in
contemporary times there has been a movement towards embracing the subjectivity inherent in
the documentary form. This means that modern documentaries often reflect the distinctive voice
and sensibility of their creator, and the fact that today’s documentaries often revolve around
personality blurs the lines between documentary and memoir. Blogs rest somewhere between
these two genres, muddying the distinctions even further. Personal blogging, documentary, and
memoir are now irrevocably intertwined, for better or for worse.
Although few bloggers think of themselves as making documentaries
in any formal sense, every time somebody sits down in front of a
computer and types up a record of their day, they are documenting
their own historical moment. The things that we take for granted
about our daily lives, like the way that we use specific modes of
transportation, or the kinds of products that we buy, often seem
quite fascinating to people who live in circumstances different from
ours, and it is this kind of fascination that is at the heart of many
documentary projects. When people think about blogging,
documentary is not very likely to be the first adjective that crosses
their minds, but a few decades down the road it is very likely that
todays blogs will be seen primarily as very subjective documentaries
of our era. The people of tomorrow will almost certainly look to the
blogs of today for insight into our historical moment.
When it comes to blogging, documentary may not be the aim of
most people who spend their time posting their thoughts and ideas
on the internet. In some ways, the documentary aspect of blogging
is more of a side effect than a primary goal. However, the fact that
so many people are interested in publishing these public online diaries shows that personal blogs
are about more than just rumination. The fact that bloggers are so stimulated by and interested
in sharing their ideas with each other reinforces the
idea that personal blogs are, in some ways,
documentaries meant for public consumption.
Documentaries appeal to people who are curious
about other ways of life, and many people who
regularly read others personal blogs are looking for
this same kind of new perspective.

36. Photo Blogging May be the Pinnacle of Modern
Technology
Many people feel that photo blogging is the most exciting kind of blogging that exists. Building
and maintaining a photo blog is no more difficult than creating and updating a text-based blog,
and many people feel that the internet's high speed, full-color technology reaches the pinnacle of
its appeal with the transmission of images. Posting photographs in a blog format on a daily,
weekly, or occasional basis is a great way to express yourself while reaching viewers in an
emotionally charged and aesthetically engaging way, and surfing photo blogs can help you to get
a whole new perspective on the world in which we live.
Many people who run image blogs are photographers by trade, but photo blogging is also very
popular among hobbyists and amateur shutterbugs. To be certain, a lot of the most popular
photo blogs have gained attention because the pictures on them are of the highest artistic caliber,
and a lot of the people who run these striking blogs are graduates of prestigious art schools and
have impressive professional portfolios. However, some
of the most well known and most often visited photo
blogs are as notable for their concepts as for the pictures
themselves. Certain photo blogs, like the popular "Cute
Overload" which features picture after picture of adorable
animals, are more about the thematic content of the
pictures than they are about the style in which the
snapshots are taken.
The fact that photo blogs range from forums to display
the work of highly skilled artisans to playful collections of
curiosities shows that photo blogging is a truly diverse
form. The fact that photo blogs are so easy to build and
to update makes this kind of visual communication very democratic, and enables people at all
skill levels to become a part of the global conversation about the nature and value of
photography today.
Whether you are an artist or hobbyist who wants to create a photo blog, or whether you are just
somebody who enjoys learning about new places and things, spending some time looking at the
most popular photography blogs on the internet can be a very rewarding endeavor. You can
travel to another place or another time by seeing pictures of faraway locations and long-gone
eras. You can see your own neighborhood with fresh eyes by discover how local artists have
photographed the town or city in which you live.
Photo blogging allows people to communicate all of
these things and more, which makes it a very
exciting part of the modern blogosphere. If the best
thing about web technology is that it allows people
to reach each other in a very personal way from
across great distances, then in many ways photo
blogs are the most successful kind of web sites.

37. Picking The Best Free Blogging Site
Choosing a free blogging site can feel overwhelming because there are so many options. There
are several large free blog-hosting sites that dominate the blogosphere, but there are also
smaller sites. Whether you decide to join up with an established site like blogger or whether you
choose to sign on with a relatively new venture depends on what your priorities are.
Reliability is perhaps the best reason to opt for a large
and well known free blogging site. When you choose to
have an established brand host your blog, you can feel
secure that your blog will not crash often and will not
disappear in the middle of the night. A company that
has been around for a while is likely to have the
resources to make sure that its clients aren't
unpleasantly surprised by any technical glitches.
However, many bloggers decide that this isn't enough
of a selling point. The bloggers who choose to go with
smaller, newer blog hosting sites do so for a variety of
reasons, but perhaps the number one advantage is a
fairly abstract one. Bloggers tend to relish the fact that
the internet is a place where the underdog has a strong
chance of success, and by choosing to have a small
company as a blog host, a blogger is casting his or her
vote for David against Goliath.

38. Products to Make Blogging Easier
There are assortments of products which can simplify the process of blogging. Although blogging is not
a difficult process there can be some aspects of blogging which are overwhelming to new bloggers or
bloggers who do not have a great deal of Internet experience. These products can be very beneficial to
the blogger by simplifying the design process or helping to make the blog more appealing to blog
readers. This article will discuss some of the products currently available to make blogging easier
including blogging software programs, website design software and keyword generators.
Blogging Software Programs
Blogging software programs are some of the most obvious programs which make blogging easier.
These programs are readily available and many of them are free to use. Blogging software programs
can greatly simplify the process of publishing a blog especially if the blogger employs the templates
included in these programs. In some cases the act of publishing a blog once the blog has been set up
may be as simple as typing the text of the blog into a text editor and pressing a button to publish the
blog. However, there will be some work required of the blogger upfront to set up the layout of the blog.
Even the design process is greatly simplified by these programs especially if the blogger opts to use
the templates in the program. The blogger may only have to scroll through a list of options and select
those which he finds most appealing. Based on these selections the software will generate the blog
with the appropriate layout, colors, fonts and even advertising options. More ambitious bloggers may
opt to utilize their programming skills to customize these templates but this is not necessary and the
blog will function sufficiently without any additional customization.
Website Design Software
Website design software can also be a useful tool for new bloggers who want to create a blog which is
aesthetically appealing and also functional. These software programs make it possible for bloggers
who do not have any design experience to create a blog with a unique appearance. When using this
type of software the blogger can scroll through options, make changes on the fly, preview changes
and even upload photos for use in the blog. As these changes are made in the software design
program the code for these design options is automatically generated, updated and stored as
necessary.
Keyword Generators
Bloggers who are trying to attract a great deal of web traffic to a website should also consider the use
of keyword generator to assist them in determining which keywords they should be using in their blog.
The blogger may want to make the blog interesting and informative as a priority but the judicious use
of keywords throughout the blog and in the code of the blog can contribute to higher search engine
rankings for the blog. This is important because high
search engine rankings often translate to high blog
traffic. This is because Internet users heavily rely on
search engines to assist them in finding the best
websites which pertain to certain keywords which are
used during searches. These high search engine
rankings essentially act as free advertising for the blog
owner because Internet users expect the highest
ranking websites to be the most informative websites
so they are likely to visit blogs which rank well with
search engines as opposed to blogs which are buried
on later pages of search results.

39. Promoting Your Blog
Blogging can be a great deal of fun for some bloggers but for others it is a source of income.
Whether this income is earned through an AdSense campaign, paid advertisements, affiliate
marketing or some other type of revenue generating source one of the key elements to
maximizing this profit is by driving greater traffic to the blog. This is because the more visitors
the blog receives the more opportunities there are for the blogger to have visitors click through
the advertisements in the blog. There are a few basic techniques which bloggers can rely on to
promote their blog and increase traffic to their blog. This article will cover a few of these key
concepts including participating in relevant message boards, optimizing the blog for search
engines and keeping the blog interesting to visitors.
Active Participation in Message Boards
Participation in message boards which relate to the blog topic is actually one very simple way for
blog owners to drive traffic to their blog. However, one caveat to using this type of promotion for
the blog is to avoid violating the rules of the message board. This is important because some
message boards have strict regulations regarding the inclusion of links to other websites on the
message board. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in the blogger being banned from
the message board and may also cause other message board users to not think highly of the blog
owner.
Another careful consideration for the blog owner is to avoid posting the web address to his blog
in a way which will be considered spam by other message board users. This is important because
other message board users are likely to not visit the blog if they believe the blog owner is simply
spamming the message board. This can be avoided by including the link to the blog in the
signature and ensuring the posts made on the message board are informative and of interest to
the other message board users. Building a reputation as a useful contributor to the message
board will be beneficial to enticing other users of the message board to visit the blog.
Optimizing Your Blog
Search engine optimization is another factor which blog owners should also carefully consider.
Optimizing the blog for search engines can be beneficial because improved search engine
rankings often lead to increased blog traffic. Depending on the amount of competition on the blog
subject rising to the top of the search engine rankings may not always be easy. Blog owners who
have a blog with a very popular subject may face stiff competition for search engine rankings
from other blogs and websites which may have the means to hire professionals in the search
engine optimization industry to assist them in
achieving high rankings. However, there are some
steps the blogger can take to attempt to boost
rankings. Some of these steps include researching
and using relevant keywords naturally throughout
the blog postings, incorporating these keywords
into the title, META and image tags and avoiding
black hat optimizing techniques which could result
in the blog being penalized by search engines.
Page 55

39. Promoting Your Blog
Keeping Your Blog Interesting
Finally, one of the simplest ways a blog owner can help to drive traffic to his blog is by regularly
updating the blog and keeping it interesting. This is important because a blog which is interesting
is much more likely to not only maintain blog traffic but also generate new traffic. This is because
readers who are interested in the posts on the blog are
not only likely to keep coming back to the blog but are
also likely to recommend the blog to other members of
the target audience. This type of word of mouth
advertising can be very beneficial because those who
have an interest in the content of a particular blog also
typically have friends who would also be interested in the
blog. Once one blog owner recommends a blog to one or
more friends, these new blog visitors are also likely to
recommend the blog to others if they find
it to be interesting, useful or otherwise
worthwhile.

40. The Controversy Around Corporate Blogging
Corporate blogging is a relatively new idea, and the jury is still out on whether it will succeed.
This controversial marketing tool may be the beginning of a new kind of advertising strategy, or
it may fizzle out in a matter of months. Many companies are looking for ways to capitalize on the
blogging trend, and many of these corporations have determined that a great way to ride the
blogging wave is to keep a blog on their corporate website. These blogs are often created to
appeal to the demographic that the company needs to court, and the content may have quite a
lot to do with the activities of the corporation, or it may have very little to do with the company
itself. Often, a corporate blog will
focus on the kinds of content likely to
attract the desired surfers, even if
that content is not related to the
product or service that the company
provides.
Some bloggers feel that corporate
blogging is a kind of validation for the
blogging movement, and shows that
this exciting new medium has really
infiltrated the mainstream. Other
bloggers consider the kind of viral
marketing that corporate blogs
practice to be unethical or distasteful.
In any case, watching the evolution of
corporate blogs and whether they survive and proliferate or fail and disappear promises to
provide some interesting insight into today's consumers.

41. The Definition of Blogging
The definition of blogging is something that is very much in flux, as the new technologies that
appear every day redefine what a blog is, what a blog can be, and what a blog should do. For
many years, blogs were defined as text-based websites that kept records of days, similar to a
captain's log on a sailing ship. However, this started to change as the group of people who kept
blogs became more diverse. The more bloggers began to explore the limits of the medium and of
the technology that made it possible, the more the boundaries of what could be called a "blog"
expanded.
Today, there are an abundance of photo blogs,
and there are even video blogs as well. Mobile
blogging devices may well change the definition of
blogging entirely by making it possible for
bloggers to create new kinds of posts. Another
element of the blogosphere that is starting to
redefine blogging is the corporate blog. As more
companies hire writers to keep blogs with the sole
purpose of creating positive buzz about their
brand, bloggers across the globe are arguing
about whether these manufactured blogs are
really worthy of the name. Between all of these
different forces that are constantly expanding and
reshaping the blogosphere, it is difficult to imagine that the definition of what is and is not a blog
will ever remain fixed for very long.

42. The Exciting New Frontier Of Professional Blogging
Professional blogging is a very new idea with a lot of potential for entrepreneurs who have insight,
drive, and a basic understanding of today's innovative web technology. The ranks of so-called pro
bloggers are still quite small, and there are very few people who make their living entirely off of
their blogs. However, every day there are more and more people who have managed to turn
their weblogs into cash cows that supplement their income. The number of pro bloggers is
growing by leaps and bounds, but it is difficult to say whether this trend will continue.
Many bloggers dream of entering the sphere of professional blogging. There are very few people
who happily devote an hour or more each day to their blog without at least occasionally wishing
that they could earn some kind of financial reward for all of their work. Several models exist for
making money with a blog, the most popular being to
sell advertising space through Google's AdSense
program or directly to a company that wishes to reach
the demographic that your blog appeals to. However,
there are very few people indeed who can make a
comfortable living just by selling space on their blog
sidebars.
A lot of the people who read weblogs are bloggers
themselves, in part because of the fact that the people
who use blogging technology on a daily basis are most
likely to be interested in what other writers are doing
with the medium. This fact begins to explain why the
people who succeed in the world of professional
blogging are mostly people who have devoted
themselves almost entirely to learning about, talking
about, and writing about blogging. More than any other
topic, pro bloggers turn their attention to the
phenomenon of blogging itself. A lot of pro bloggers make the topic of blogging the stunningly
self-reflexive ongoing focus of their blogs.
Of course, professional blogging is destined to become much more complicated in the future than
it is today. In the current moment, pro bloggers who attract the largest audiences and make the
most money are mostly concerned with investigating the blogging movement and with offering
advice to amateur bloggers. However, as the kinds
of people who regularly read blogs changes, and the
demographics of bloggers expand and diversify as
blogging software becomes more user friendly, it is
very likely indeed that the world of pro blogging will
begin to reflect these changes. Indeed, it is very
difficult to predict exactly what kinds of blogs will be
reaping the greatest financial rewards five or ten
years down the road. The world of pro blogging is
one of constant change and flux, which is part of
what makes it so exciting.

43. The Pros and Cons of Video Blogging
Video blogging has a lot of advantages over text-based blogging, and it is little wonder that this
new technology is catching on all over the globe. Video blogs very effectively grab the attention
of web surfers, and people are much more likely to become excited about the dynamic content of
a video blog than they are likely to find a written posting very thrilling. The more enthusiastic
viewers are about a site, the quicker the word of mouth spreads, and the more traffic the site will
get.
Of course, there are plenty of disadvantages to video
blogging as well. Hosting a v-blog requires quite a bit of
server space, which can make it difficult to get started. It
takes more time to process and upload a video file than it
does to dash off a quick bit of text, which means that
running and updating a video blog can be quite a bit of
work. In addition, web surfers sometimes grow frustrated
with the slow loading times of the files on many video
blogs. Whether you opt for a video blog or not depends
on what kind of subject matter you want to cover, and
how much time you can devote to video blogging. Before
you decide to pursue a video blog, consider if there is an
easier way for you to get your message across.

Finding the right platform isn't always easy, but with a little bit of
contemplation and a little bit of research, you will be on your way to finding the perfect blogging
platform.
Deciding what your priorities are in terms of ease of
use versus customization. Most highly customizable
blogging platforms, like moveable type, are a bit
more difficult to use than very automated platforms
like Wordpress. If you are new to blogs and to
internet technology, you might want to sacrifice the
ability to create a custom background design or to
integrate a unique font into your template in order
to find a program that will be easy for you to use.
On the other hand, if you are a veteran web
designer with knowledge of html or JavaScript, you
will probably find the limitations of a user-friendly
platform to be frustrating.
There is no such thing as a blogging platform that is
objectively the best platform, because every blogger has unique needs. The blogging movement
is very much about individuality, so it makes plenty of sense that there would be many different
platforms available that are designed to meet the needs of different kinds of individuals
undertaking different kinds of projects. This diversity is a good thing, because it means that you
will almost certainly be able to find a program that suits your level of technical aptitude.
There is no such thing as the perfect platform for
everybody, so instead of looking for the "best"
platform, look for the best platform for your specific
criteria.

45. Tips for Keeping Your Blog Up to Date
Keeping a blog up to date is one of the most important aspects of blogging. This is so important
because regular blog visitors expect new postings on a regular basis. Not all visitors expect to
see a new post as often as once a day but most blog readers expect the content on the blog to
be updated on a regular basis. In most cases visitors expect new content on at least a weekly
basis. However, depending on the subject matter the visitors may expect updates on a basis
which is either more frequent. Similarly visitors may not be interested in receiving this type of
information more than a few times a year. Blog owners should be aware of the frequency of
which readers expect new posts and should make an effort to oblige the readers with updates
this often. This article will discuss methods for keeping a blog up to date including scheduling a
regular time to post blogs, using publishing tools wisely and hiring guest bloggers when
necessary.
Finding Time to Post Daily
One way to help to ensure a blog remains up to date
is to schedule time to post blogs on a daily basis.
This is especially important when blog readers
expect new posts on a daily basis or at least several
times per week. Bloggers who allot a specific block
of time each day to researching, writing and
publishing blogs are more likely to have a blog
which is up to date than bloggers who plan on
accomplishing tasks when they find time to do so.
There may still be days in which the blogger is
unable to publish a new post on the blog but these
days will be less frequent than if the blogger does not have a block of time strictly dedicated to
keeping the blog up to date.
On days in which the blog is unable to devote time to blogging, the blogger may wish to at least
publish a short message explaining why it was not possible to post a new blog entry. This will let
readers know you are aware of their desire to read more information but are simply unable to
publish a new blog post. As long as this does not become a regular occurrence, blog visitors are
not likely to stop viewing a blog simply because the blogger skips a day or two.
Taking Advantage of Publishing Tools
Some blog publishing tools enable bloggers to write
blog posts ahead of time and specify when each
post should be published. This is an excellent
feature for bloggers who want to publish new posts
daily but are unable to dedicate time each day to
writing blog posts. This way the blogger can
dedicate a block of time each week to write blog
posts and have the posts published throughout the
week. This is often an easier method for many
bloggers because they are able to be more efficient
this way.

45. Tips for Keeping Your Blog Up to Date
Hiring Guest Bloggers
Bloggers may also want to consider hiring guest bloggers to assist them in keeping a blog up to
date. This can be a worthwhile method for bloggers who are not only having difficulty keeping
their blog up to date but are also interested in
providing readers with a little variety. However, blog
owners who opt for this message of keeping their
blog up to date should carefully consider how the
dedicated blog readers will react to this change. This
is important because some readers may not be
interested in reading blogs written by a guest
blogger. Therefore the use of a guest blogger can
actually be more detrimental to the blog than not
updating the blog regularly. Bloggers can gauge
reader reaction to the use of guest bloggers in a
couple of different ways. The simplest and most
straight forward method is to poll the readers about
the use of guest bloggers. This can be done by
asking readers to comment on the issue and tabulating the comments received. Another method
to gauge reader reaction is to introduce a guest blogger and compare the traffic the guest
blogger receives to the traffic the blog owner receives.

46. To Join a Blogging Site or Not to Join
Joining an established blogging site like live journal or blogger has plenty of advantages,
especially for the blog novice. Sites that host a lot of different blogs often have very useful
tutorials about building and updating your blog, and you are likely to encounter a very user-
friendly software interface at an established blogging site. In addition, these sites provide a kind
of instant community of fellow bloggers who can provide advice, insight, and feedback. These
established sites often keep directories of their members, which can be great news for your
traffic logs because it means that other bloggers on the site will find out about your pages.
However, there are also some downsides to linking
up with a large blogging site. By posting within the
established templates of a site like blogger, you
run the risk of having your blog look and feel like
everybody else's. The blogging movement is very
much about the creation of distinctive sites and the
development of individual voices, so it makes
plenty of sense that many bloggers would shy
away from the cookie-cutter look and feel that
these blogging sites often promote. Many bloggers
feel that the content of a blog is what makes it
distinctive, not the look of the blog, but many
members of the blogging community feel that the
visual impact of a blog should match the originality
of the writing.

47. Using A Free Blogging Web Site
For first time bloggers, a free blogging web site is a great way to get started in the blogosphere.
Popular blogging web sites like blogger and eponym allow users to set up and host a blog without
paying any fees at all. This encourages people to start blogging, because the fact that one of
these sites can provide you with all of the tools that you need to get your blog up and running
without spending any money means that you have nothing to lose by starting a blog. The fact
that it is so easy to find a way to blog for free is one of the reasons why so many people who
have never had any other kind of web presence before find themselves drawn to blogging.
By signing up with a free blogging web site, you may find
it easier to get listed in search engines that you would if
you were starting your own blog from scratch. For
example, google runs the free blog hosting site blogspot
and crawls its pages very often looking for updates, so if
you have your site hosted by blogspot you are almost
guaranteed to be listed on google's blog search engine.
This easy access to search engines can take some of the
work out of promoting your blog, and can help you gain a
following with a minimum of marketing effort.
If your blog attracts a large readership, you may want to
consider moving your site. Many people feel that being
hosted by a free blogging web site gives a blog a kind of
amateur flavor that is fine for a new member of the blogosphere, but is not appropriate for a
high-profile blog. Having your own domain can help you make your blog feel professional, and
finding a company that will host your domain is not difficult or expensive. Once your blog takes
off, you will probably be able to sell enough advertising space to be able to afford to buy a
domain and pay for a hosting package, and still have money left over. However, it does not make
sense in most cases to invest in these glossy luxuries before you have a sizable readership.
Starting your blog on a free blogging web site is a great way to build a following before you
spend any money on your blog. If and when your blog becomes popular and you are ready to
take the next step and purchase your own domain, your readers will follow you to your new
home. The fact that it is possible to use a free blog host like blogspost, blogger, or
eponym as a kind of incubator for your blog is great news for bloggers everywhere.

48. Using Guest Bloggers
Owners of a successful blog that has a large following may sometimes have the need to use
guest bloggers. An example of when this practice may be a good idea is when the owner of a
popular blog will be unavailable to post new blog entries for an extended period of time. In this
case the lack of blog updates may cause the blog to lose traffic so it would be prudent for the
blog owner to make arrangements for a guest blogger or a series of guest bloggers to post new
items during his absence. The blogger may also wish to announce the intention to use guest
bloggers during this period of time to ensure loyal blog visitors are aware of the situation and
that it is only temporary. This article will discuss aspects of using guest bloggers such as
advertising for guest bloggers, selecting guest bloggers and compensating guest bloggers.
Advertising for Guest Bloggers
There are a number of locations where a blog owner can advertise for guest bloggers. Job boards
specifically for bloggers or freelance writers are an excellent option for finding guest bloggers.
Job boards for bloggers are frequently visited by experienced bloggers who are looking for new
opportunities to blog for compensation. These bloggers may have specific experience with the
subject matter of the blog or may simply be adept at creating interesting blogs on a variety of
subjects. Job boards for freelance writers are another great option. These writers may not
necessarily have experience blogging but they may have other writing experience that is useful.
Blog owners should consider posting a detailed messaged specifying the type of work required
and duration of the project and asking for clips from the writers which can be used to verify the
writer’s skill level.
Blog owners may also wish to advertise for guest bloggers on message boards related to the
subject of the blog. Visitors of this blog may not necessarily have writing experience but will
likely be quite knowledgeable about the subject of the blog and therefore be capable of producing
interesting and insightful blogs.
Selecting Guest Bloggers
Selecting a guest blogger should be done carefully to ensure the guest blogger is reliable and
capable of producing articulate, informative and interesting blog posts. Blog owners who
advertise for a guest blogger on job boards for bloggers and freelance writers should ask for clips
demonstrating the writer’s ability to write blogs which are interesting and informative. When
advertising on a message board for a guest blogger,
the blog owner might want to consider using the
applicant’s previous posts to evaluate his writing
ability and knowledge of the subject matter. He
should also consider the type of response the
applicant’s message board postings typically elicit.
This is important because it is a good indication of
the type of response the blogs will elicit. Blog
owners should also ask the applicants for references
and should contact these references to obtain
information about the bloggers work ethic and
ability to complete projects.
Page 66

48. Using Guest Bloggers
Compensating Guest Bloggers
Blog owners should also carefully consider how they intend to compensate guest bloggers. This
can be done in the form of financial compensation or through allowing the guest blogger to post a
brief biography with a link to his personal website or blog
at the conclusion of the blog post. The latter form of
compensation is essentially free advertisement space for
the guest blogger. The blog owner may also wish to
compensate the guest blogger with a combination of
money and free advertising space. Regardless of the
method of compensation chosen the blog owner should
discuss this with the guest blogger before work
commences and should enter a written contract with the
guest blogger which explicitly states the terms of the
compensation to avoid disputes.

49. What Is a Blogging Tory?
The term Blogging Tory refers to any one of the many authors affiliated with the conservative
Canadian community known as The Blogging Tories. Today, there are over three hundred text-
based blogs associated with the group, and there are new Blogging Tories every day. The Tories
stand as an inspiring example of a successful online community where the ever-increasing
numbers of affiliated members enjoy a fertile environment for discussion and debate about the
ideas that shape the face of Canada.
The majority of Tory bloggers do make political events
and topics the focus of their blogs, but not all of the
content that a Blogging Tory creates and publishes is
overtly related to the movements of the Canadian
parliament or the prime minister. Although the
community members were brought together by a
shared conservative viewpoint, the fact that not all of
the postings on all of the member's blogs focus on
political topics is one of the most exciting things about
the Blogging Tories. On any given day, the main
website's blogroll may feature postings about Olympic
medalists, a James Bond film festival in Quebec, or a
comical personal experience with a telemarketer. The idea that having a political affiliation in
common makes it possible to have a fruitful discussion about other kinds of topics has interesting
implications for how online communities are established and how they grow.
The Blogging Tories website has extended well beyond its original role as a collection of Canadian
conservative blogs. It currently serves as a central hub for national conservative NGOs as well
There are many such blogger groups, like, Splitcoaststampers - Stampers Community,
Progressive Bloggers, TwitterMoms - the influential moms network, DelhiBloggers.

50. When Others Do Not Approve of Your Blog
Regardless of the topic of a blog, all bloggers face the potential for situations in which others do not
approve of their blog. Although this type of reaction is popular with blogs focused on political or
controversial issues, bloggers who maintain a personal blog may also face disapproval from those who
do not approve of the bloggers choices in life. This article will discuss subjects such as dealing with
negative comments on a blog, dealing with criticism from friends and family members and will touch
upon situations in which blogging can cause legal problems for the blogger.
Dealing with Negative Comments on Your Blog
Negative comments posted on a blog are one of the most common forms of disapproval a blog may
receive. These comments may be posted in response to a specific blog posting or may be posted as an
objection to the blog in general. These negative comments may be very troubling to the blogger but
fortunately there are some methods for dealing with these comments.
Bloggers who are concerned that negative comments may influence other blog readers have a few
options for dealing with these negative comments. One way to do this is to set the blog to not allow
comments. This will effectively eliminate the comments but it will also eliminate comments from
supporters of the blog as well. Another option a blogger has is to simply delete the negative comments
as he finds them. This is not a very effective method because other readers may have time to read the
comments before they are deleted. Bloggers who are online often and are not concerned about
negative comments appearing on the blog for a short period of time may utilize this method. Another
method of dealing with negative comments includes rebutting these comments on the blog. Finally,
bloggers often have the opportunity to ban visitors who are leaving negative comments from making
future comments.
Dealing with Criticism from Friends and Family Members
Bloggers may also face criticism from friends and family members for the content of their blogs.
Friends and family members may not use the comment section to express their disapproval but may
express their concerns directly to the blogger in person, via telephone or via email. This can be a
difficult situation for bloggers because they may be torn between maintaining the blog according to
their vision and keeping their friends and family happy. In many cases friends and family members
may object to a blog because they believe it can be potentially harmful to the blogger or because they
are concerned about how the blog will reflect on them. In these delicate situations the blogger has the
option to either delete or modify the blog or to speak to the friends and family members to explain his
feelings without making changes to the blog.
When Blogging can Cause Legal Problems
Bloggers should be aware there are some situations in
which their blog can cause legal problems. Making
statements about another person which are untrue and
defamatory can result in the subject of the blog
seeking retribution for libel. Other blog postings can
also be found to be illegal for a wide variety of other
reasons. Bloggers may assume freedom of speech laws
protect them fully but there may be situations in which
the statements in a blog are not protected under
freedom of speech laws and the blogger faces legal
ramifications for his postings. Blogging which violates
the copyright laws of another can also cause legal
problems.

51. Your New Baby, Blogging, and Modern Motherhood
For the mother of a new baby, blogging is likely to be the last thing on her mind. Taking care of
an infant is an almost incredible amount of work, and between changing diapers and putting the
final touches on the nursery, it seems unrealistic to imagine that there would be time left over for
any mother to blog. However, a growing number of new moms are joining the blogosphere to
share their experiences during this exciting time of life. There is a whole range of benefits that
new mothers can reap from blogging, and the spectrum covers everything from getting through
the night to helping distant relatives feel closer.
Among the reasons why, for a mom dealing with the hassles and triumphs of a baby, blogging is
a great idea, is that having a blog about motherhood is a great way to blow off some steam.
Babies often have very erratic sleep patterns that leave
parents up at odd hours of the night, and sometimes
the best way to fill those hours is on the internet. Many
new moms turn to television to help them weather
these dawn vigils, but by blogging through the night
moms can turn what feels like a somewhat depressing
situation into an actively positive and productive one.
Another reason why new moms often find blogging
very satisfying is that it helps them to be a part of a
community. For moms who are not able to successfully
juggle a full social life with the very tough demands of
taking care of a new baby, blogging can be a great way
to stave off the isolation that sometimes comes with
this stage of life. A baby requires constant attention,
and it can be difficult to attend social gatherings or
events when you are responsible for an infant. Luckily, the blogosphere is full of other moms in
the same situation, and by chatting with them it is possible to overcome some of the loneliness
that many new mothers are surprised to encounter.
Of course, for a mom with an adorable new baby, blogging can be as much about celebration as
it is about necessity. Having a blog about living with a new child can give mothers the chance to
reflect on how powerful and warm the sensation of motherhood is, and sometimes sharing the
triumphs of this unique time can make them even sweeter. A blog is a great way to keep friends
and family updated with news about your baby's
first words or first steps, and with new technology it
is easier than ever to make photos and video clips a
part of your blog, so you can give far-away relatives
the chance to feel much more involved in your
child's life.

What is Reverse Engineering?
Reverse engineering is the process of analyzing a program and representing the results in a
design notation suitable for subsequent software engineering activities such as enhancement,
debugging, or documentation. One historical difficulty with reverse engineering is that there is no
accepted quality metric to determine when a reverse engineering effort is good enough.
This makes managing and scheduling reverse
engineering efforts difficult. In the general sense,
ground-up reverse engineering is very hard, and requires
several engineers and a good deal of support software
just to capture the all of the ideas in a system. However,
we'll find that by having a proper documentation of
what's going on, we should be able to extract the
information we need to do what matters: make
modifications and hacks to get software do specified
tasks to do things that it was not originally intended to
do.
Why Reverse Engineer?
It comes down to an issue of power and control. Every computer enthusiast (and essentially any
enthusiast in general) is a control-freak. We love the details. We love being able to figure things
out. We love to be able to wrap our heads around a system and be able to predict its every move,
and more, be able to direct its every move. And if you have source code to the software, this is
all fine and good. But unfortunately, this is not always the case.
Furthermore, software that you do not have source code to is usually the most interesting kind of
software. Sometimes you may be curious as to how a particular security feature works, or if the
copy protection is really "unbreakable", and sometimes you just want to know how a particular
feature is implemented.
