					                          Monday Keynote
                           Sir Ken Robinson
 Book - The Element – http://www.theelementbook.com
o How finding your passion changes everything
 TED Video – Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity
      o http://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_crea
         tivity.html
o “If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with
anything original. By the time they become adults, most kids
have lost that capacity. They have become frightened of being
         wrong. …we stigmatize mistakes.”
 Many people endure life not enjoy life.
 We need to change our minds about education.
      o Abraham Lincoln - December 1, 1862 - One month before
signing the Emancipation Proclamation, President Lincoln sent
         a long message to Congress.
 “The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the
stormy present. The occasion is piled high with
difficulty, and we must rise -- with the occasion. As our
case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We
must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our
                country.”
o People over 25 all wear watches. People under 25 do not wear a
watch. To them, technology is not technology if it was
developed before they were born. After all, the watch is a one-
         function device.
o All kids are different, and so many drop out because we treat
         them the same.
o Mozart of Math – Terence Toa – Born in Adelaide, Australia in
1975 and earned his PhD at Princeton in 1996.
      o Bart Conner
 Was walking on his hands by the time he was 3. His
parents took him to the gym and he was in heaven.
 Conner started gymnastics at the age of ten, after a school
physical education coach noticed his talent.
 Bart Conner is the only American male gymnast to win
gold medals at every level of national and international
                competition.
                             Monday Sessions

           Aly Tapp’s workshop.

together in real-time. When multiple people edit the same document
simultaneously, any changes are instantly reflected on everyone's
     screen every ½ second.

                             Tuesday Keynote

                              Chris Lehman

    Accountability = External
    Responsibility = Internal
 Angelo Patri - A School Master of the Great City, 1917
o What the school system needs to understand is that its strength
lies, not in the strength of the central organization, but in the
strength of the individual school, not in making one school like
another, but in making each school a distinct unit. The need of
the system is the preservation of its units, so that each school
can keep itself alive, wide awake, responsive to its people,
easily adaptable, the best of its kind.
 If we want creative workers, give them enough time to play –
     Example Google’s 80/20 philosophy.

Collaborating to Connect NETS with Curriculum
Ann Johnston- IU #12 – Wednesday 8 AM – 9:00 AM
amjohnston@iu12.org
http://ning.peteandc.org/forum/topics/jl21-collaborating-to-connect

Program Description - IU12 Technology Integrators held collaboration
days for grades 5-12 focusing on four of the NETS-S: Creativity &
Innovation, Communication &
Collaboration, Research & Information Literacy, Critical Thinking,
Problem Solving & Decision Making. See the process used to connect
these four areas to curriculum, plus connect teachers in the region!

 TIENet – Technology Integrating Educators Network
 Stupeflix as her opening screen – great opening - twitter hastags and
     Flickr tags.
 Open to all educators. Collaboration 5-12 this year and K-12 next
year, broken up into elementary and secondary.
 Collaboration day based on NETS – student.
 Collaboration day is planned by all integrators and is held at one
district. Held at VoTec school in 4 rooms – 2 labs, classroom,
     auditorium.
 They did 4 repeated days so everyone can attend. Idea was to expose
all the teachers to the same concepts.
 See wiki for agenda - Wiki -
     http://tienet.wikispaces.com/PETE%26C2010
 They had 3 sessions and two on Thinkfinity/Diigo, which was more
     content specific.
 During the second implementation day there was a newbie session
running at the same time as session one to introduce newbies to much
of the vocabulary, and to help then create logins to wiki, diigo, etc.
See “getting started” on the wiki.
    Strands
      Creativity and Innovation
      Communication and Collaboration
      Research and Information Fluency
 Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making
 The other 2 strands from NETS-S were blended into the above 4
     strands.
 Teams of 3-4 coaches were presenting the strands so that if one
presenter couldn’t make it to one of the days, there were others to take
    over.
 There was no rostering of participants – they just went wherever they
wanted to go. Pre-prep was done by CFF coach, i.e. setting up twitter
    account, etc.
 They showed the tools but tied it to the curriculum.
 They surveyed the organizing group and then took their suggestions
    seriously.
 Some administrators have attended, although not for the entire day.
 Webinars for admin – tools for organization => transitioned to NETS-
    A => then assessment.
 In Diigo they have a group dictionary so the tags are consistent.
