COAST GUARD STATION ST. CLAIR SHORES MICHIGAN UNIT INFORMATION SHEET (UIS) Chain of Command: OINC: BMCM Christopher Markison XPO: BMC Ronald Johnson EPO: MKC Karl DeYoung st 1 LT: BM1 Ebert Crawford FSO: FS1 Galen Varon Unit Address Your Name c/o CG STA St. Clair Shores 24802 E. Jefferson Avenue St. Clair Shores, MI 48080 Unit phone number(s): Phone: 1-586-778-3320 1-586-778-0121 FAX: 1-586-778-0668 SAR: 1-586-778-0590 Date Updated: 1/23/2007 District 9 Unit Website: http://www.uscg.mil/d9/grudet/units/scs/index.htm Unit Mission: Coast Guard Station St. Clair Shores was initially manned as a seasonal unit in 1954. In 1960 the station moved behind Blossom Heath Park and became a fully operational year-round unit. The Station's area of responsibility includes most of Lake St. Clair out to the Canadian border. Although the area is not as large as that of some other Group Detroit units, the Station is located near the "Nautical Mile" in the city of St. Clair Shores, the "Marina-land of the Great Lakes." The City has over 90,000 residents and boasts many 1,000+ boat capacity marinas. There are over 900,000 registered boats in southeast Michigan, making the area one of the greatest boating concentrations in the nation. Along with boats of all sizes and types, offshore races are extremely popular with a steady diet of marine events and regattas occurring throughout the boating season. The Station is one of the busiest in the Coast Guard each year, both in terms of SAR cases and LE activity. It receives significant support from both the Reserve and Auxiliary. Station St. Clair Shores is a multi-mission, year round unit, conducting warm weather Search and Rescue and Maritime Law Enforcement, including multiagency illegal Alien Migrant Interdiction Operations (AMIO), and winter ice rescue. We have an outstanding Coast Guard Auxiliary and U. S. Power Squadron support team. We also participate in numerous community outreach and boater educational efforts. Notes of Interest:     One of the busiest stations in CG year after year. Lake St. Clair has one of the highest boats per capita in U.S. Lake "covered" with boats in summer. Two thirds of SAR takes place between Memorial and Labor Day weekends. Station works many marine events. Close relations with local law enforcement agencies, spanning three counties (Wayne, Macomb, and St. Clair). Macomb County Sheriff operates a marine sub-unit at the Station from Memorial Day to Labor Day annually. Command Expectations of YOU: Our expectations of you are and will be HIGH.
