Goals • Produce creditable performances at the London 2012 Olympics in both the men’s and women’s competitions. Create a legacy for British handball beyond 2012, that will help British handball win medals in the future. As a by-product of the WCHP, increase the visibility and popularity of handball in the UK. • • Milestones 6 July 2005 October 2005 March 2006 London awarded 2012 Olympics. BHA submits development plan and funding request to UK Sport. BHA awarded £3 million funding over three years. August 2006 September 2006 October 2006 End 2006 April 2007 June 2007 October 2007 Allan Lund appointed Technical Adviser to BHA. First GB players arrive at Danish Handball academies. Lorraine Brown appointed WCHP Manager. BHA/UK Sport Talent ID programme launched. Morten Arvidsson appointed WCHP Women’s Head coach. Carsten Albrektsen appointed WCHP Men’s Head coach. Programme agreed between BHA/WCHP staff and Aarhus Academy. Players also play with local Div. 2/3 clubs. WCHP staff work closely with programme. EIS in Sheffield provides medical, nutritional, psychological and lifestyle assistance. Players return to Sheffield Centre during Summer break. Strict selection criteria and intensive preparation and assessment prior to Danish assignment. Talent Programme • • • • • Based at Sheffield/EIS Players who are too young or not quite at right level for Danish programme. Supported by full time Performance Coaches and EIS staff. Attend regular training camps with Danish-based players. Successful talent ID programme, including ‘Sporting Giants’ – 4,000 applications, 260 invited for initial assessment, opf which 36 have so far ‘graduated’ to the final assessment programme. Fast track development programme devised for successful talent ID players. • Support services & systems Sport Science and Medicine • English Institute of Sport co-located at WCHP Sheffield base. EIS has world leading sports science and medicine expertise. Full time professional EIS support for Life Style coaching, nutrition, medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, etc. EIS staff working closely with DHF counterparts to transfer handball-specific skills to BHA. • • • Support services & systems contd..... Administration – – – – NGB provide governance and management support WCHP has own administration staff Finance function outsourced from BJA Support from UK Sport experts IT Systems for – – – – – – Performance analysis Coaching Sharing knowledge Finance Collaboration Communication International Co-operation • • • • • • • The BHA and the Danish Handball Federation have committed to signing a technical co-operation agreement. Areas covered include coach and referee training and educational materials. Exchange of research materials and study results. Agreement to make the Danish national teams available for exhibition matches in the UK. The BHA, together with the EIS, is planning to undertake research into Performance monitoring, the results of which it will share with the DHF. Offers of support for development in England from Hungarian Federation and Swedish Federation Scotland has signed a foster agreement for support with Portuguese Federation. And finally When the Olympics are all over More than just medals 2012 will bring Britain and in particular London •New sports facilities •Investment in sport •Investment in sport people •National Pride •Many young people into sport who would otherwise not have taken any interest Not just for 2012 but for many years to come A SPORTING LEGACY
