Montclair State is New Jersey's second largest and fastest growing university, offering the advantages of a large university — a broad undergraduate curriculum with a global focus, a wide variety of superior graduate programs, and a diverse faculty and student body — combined with a small college's attention to students. Currently the University is in the midst of an ambitious expansion program that will enable it to accommodate at least 18,000 students by 2008, the year of its centennial. The program includes the recruitment of outstanding new faculty and approximately $250 million in capital construction. With more than 250 majors, minors and concentrations, the nation's only doctorate in pedagogy, and a unique interdisciplinary doctorate in environmental management, MSU provides a comprehensive array of academic programs while remaining accessible and affordable. Through its six schools and colleges--the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Science and Mathematics, the College of Education and Human Services, the School of the Arts, the School of Business and The Graduate School--Montclair State University prepares its students to lead productive and rewarding lives, and to participate responsibly in civic society. From its founding in 1908, the history of Montclair State University has been one of change, growth and distinction. Proud of its heritage and prepared to respond to the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first century, Montclair State continues to be a major contributor to the cultural, economic and educational life of the region. For more information or to find out how Montclair State University can help you, please call 973-655-4000 or visit us on the web at www.montclair.edu. Certain images appear when one speaks of the Montclair State athletic program, images that compare to no other university. There are images of excited home crowd and outstanding athletes completing memorable plays. There are images of historic head coaches gracing the sidelines of winning teams, year after year. There are images of outstanding individual talents, All-Americans and Hall-of-Fame careers. And there are images of national championship teams, three times in baseball and twice in wrestling. At Sprague Field, home of many of the Red Hawk fall and spring teams, fans not only come out in support of one of the finest Division III football programs in the country, but the emerging field hockey and men’s and women’s lacrosse teams who compete against top competition. At Panzer Gymnasium, home of MSU men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, you can find the Red Hawk mascot running through the stands during big games and events. And the MSU Panzer Pool, home of the swimming and diving teams, is open for students and the campus community. Moving through the campus, the Red Hawk men’s and women’s soccer teams compete in a venue that matches the success of both programs. The MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field has been transformed into one of the finest in the region. At the 3,400-seat Yogi Berra Stadium, home of the three-time National Championship Red Hawk baseball teams, MSU fans enjoy the finest baseball in the finest facility at the Division III level in the country, right in the heart of the campus. A little further down is the new state-of-the-art MSU Softball Stadium, which opened in 2004, and gave the Red Hawks a field that has quickly become one of the best in the Eastern Region. Dioguardi Field is where the track and field team practices. Like the pool, Dioguardi Track is also open for the campus community. It is a history that is being rewritten every day. Come out and take a look at the “Home of the Red Hawks.” Be a part of the experience. Be a part of the tradition. In his five seasons, he has won 56 of 86 games, a .651 winning percentage, which is the best of any coach in program history to date. In addition, his teams have been to the postseason all five seasons each time capping it off with a berth in the ECAC Division III Metro Championship Game. In conference play his teams have been as successful winning 27 of 37 with five losses coming at the hands of perennial conference and regional power Stevens. Twice in his four years Greco has been named the Knickerbocker Conference (now Skyline Conference) Coach of the Year. In 2003, Greco took over the program becoming the sixth coach in school history. In his first season all Greco did was lead the Red Hawks to a 12-4 mark, the most victories MSU had posted since 1994. The Red Hawks won the first of their three straight ECAC Division III Metro championships, topping Kings Point in overtime, 10-9. He was voted the Coach of the Year in the Knickerbocker Conference. Greco File... Birthdate: March 8, 1977 Alma Mater Montclair State Education BA - Fine Arts Concentration Graphic Design High School: Clifton, NJ The following year Greco led Montclair State to perhaps the second-best season in the history of the program. Montclair won 14 games, one shy of the school record, losing only three. The Red Hawks reached the championship game of the inaugural Knickerbocker Tournament. MSU would qualifiy for the ECAC Metro Tournament for the second straight year, something it had not done in over a decade. Tabbed as the No. 1 seed, Montclair dominated the tourament outscoring its opponents, 26-8, capping off the season with a 13-3 win over conference rival Richard Stockton in the title game. The 2005 campaign provided some adversity for Greco and his Red Hawks. Playing against a very difficult schedule, MSU stood just 5-6 late in the season. With Greco leading the way, Montclair would reel off five straight victories and advanced to the KLC Championship Game again. Montclair also returned to the ECAC Championship successfully defending their crown with a 13-8 victory over Farmingdale State. The following year, the Red Hawks nearly pulled off a four-peat in the ECAC Championship. The No. 3 seed in the tournament, Montclair avenged an earlier loss in the season to Richard Stockton topping the Ospreys 12-11 in the semifinals. Making their fourth consecutive appearance in the championship game, MSU fell to Villa Julie. Last year was just another in what has become a habit for Greco and his Red Hawks - winning. Montclair registered an 11-7 mark, including a 7-2 record in the Skyline Conference. MSU would again find itself in the postseason reaching the ECAC title game again. Greco’s association with Montclair State lacrosse dates back to his playing days when he was a solid defender. In his senior year, a foot injury limited Greco to just five games; nonetheless, he was awarded the Stick ‘Em Award in 2000, which is presented to the team member whose devotion to the game, interest in his teammates, desire to win, and positive attitude, on and off the field, contributed the most to the success of the team. Following the conclusion of his playing career, Greco did not stray to far from the Montclair State campus, serving as an assistant coach and main recruiter for two seasons and also served as co-head coach of the MSU women’s squad in 2002. A native of nearby Clifton, NJ, Greco is currently a 6th Grade Math and Science teacher at Christopher Columbus Middle School in his hometown and resides there with his new wife Karen. Following his graduation from MSU in 2000 with a degree in Political Science, Torrisi spent the 2001 and 2002 seasons as an assistant lacrosse coach at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ.
