Help Conserve Energy

In an effort to reduce the amount of energy consumed at The University of Vermont, the
following are a few suggestions on how you can help us conserve. Please take this into
consideration during the holiday break. The energy tips are as follows:

 Turn off all UVM office or residence hall lights, computers and other miscellaneous
office equipment (including PC monitors, laser printers and copy machines) when not
needed. Also, “unplug” those electrical devices that are typically not being used for
    an extended period of time.

 Switch or enable the “energy-saving” feature on your desktop or laptop computer.
This will turn off your monitor, but leave your PC in a standby mode.

 Make sure that all office windows and exterior doors are securely closed, at all times,
including the exterior storm windows and doors.

 Pull the window shades or blinds closed in the late afternoon hours (and at night) in
order to lessen the heat loss during the cold, winter months.

 Lower the temperature setting of your thermostat or radiator control valve to 68 de-
grees -- and turn down (a few degrees) before leaving your office or residence hall for
    the evening.

 Please call UVM’s Service Operations Support (S.O.S.) at 656-2560 with any prob-
lems that you may view as a waste of energy. UVM’s S.O.S. can also be reached, via
    e-mail, at sos@uvm.edu.

If there are any questions and/or comments, or you would like to know more about how
you can help conserve energy at UVM, please call 656-8213 or via e-mail at ener-
gy@uvm.edu.

Payroll - Bi-weekly and December 28

In consideration of the extended holiday break, Human Resources has developed a plan
for handling the payroll that falls during the closing period. The closing also impacts a
biweekly payroll immediately following the reopening and changes some previously an-
nounced schedules.

For the Friday, December 28, 2007 semi-monthly payroll, the payroll will be produced
and confirmed on Friday, December 21, 2007.

For direct depositors the payroll will be distributed to member banks on Thursday, De-
cember 27, 2007, for deposit on December 28, 2007.

For those receiving a paycheck, the Human Resources Office will be open on December
28, 2007 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for check pick up. An ID will be required to pick up a
check. Any checks not picked up on that date will be returned to Mail Services on
Wednesday January 2, 2008, for distribution to campus.

For the biweekly payroll of Thursday, January 4, 2008, time worked will need to be sub-
mitted by Thursday 12:00 noon, December 20, 2007. This early deadline means that any
time to be worked during the closing will have to be submitted before it is actually
worked. Supervisors will need to approve time before 3:00 pm on Thursday December
20, 2007. Normal payroll processing resumes on January 2, when the University reo-
pens.

Physical Plant

Physical Plant will operate similar to a normal weekend or Holiday. Anyone who has a
problem related to a facilities operational need should call SOS at 656-2560. The central
plant operators will receive the call and dispatch a service technician to the affected area.
Physical Plant will have a service technician on site 24/7 just for these situations.

Weather pending, additional staff may be on-site if situations could be severe enough for
building freeze-ups if a condition is left unattended or unnoticed. A notice to the UVM
community to assist with energy savings measures will be sent shortly.

Police Services

Police Services will provide public safety services per normal and customary practices
and will be open 24/7 during the break.

Print & Mail Center

 During the extended holiday period, Mail Services delivery will operate from 8:00
       a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on the following dates only: December 26, 28 and 31, 2007.
This will ensure no back log of U.S. Mail and allow for timely receipt of any late
year donated funds to be recorded for 2007 tax purposes.

 There will be no outgoing Mail Service.

 All mail will be delivered as on the aforementioned dates only.

er it on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.

 Outgoing UPS packages will not be processed during this period. If you need to
ship something via UPS, please use your Campus Ship internet account and sche-
dule a pick-up in advance at:

        https://wwwapps.ups.com/pickup/schedule?loc+en_US
or use a UPS drop box that is located at the exterior of a building (Given, Patrick
       Gym).

 Delivery companies such as FedEx, UPS and DHL will attempt to make their de-
liveries. If you are expecting something urgent, please be advised that delays may
occur due to buildings being locked. In these cases, it is recommended that you
communicate directly with the shipper to obtain tracking numbers so you may
communicate with the delivery company and make alternate arrangements for de-
       livery.

 Printing will be closed. Underground Copy at the Davis Center will be closed.

    College of Medicine (Given):
o Staff will be on hand December 26, 27, 28 and 31, only until FedEx deli-
veries have been completed (usually no later than noon).

              dule noted above (December 26, 27, 28 and 31).
