First City Credit Union Offers a ‘Reality Check’

Los Angeles, CA – First City Credit Union has developed an innovative campaign to
encourage members to help others in their communities – just by opening a checking

With a campaign theme of “Reality Check,” the Los Angeles-based credit union is
partnering up with its members to help local worthy causes. When a First City member
opens any of the credit union’s four checking accounts, a $25 donation is made to one
of three worthy causes. Each cause is directly related to a First City sponsor group, or
a community that the credit union serves.

 Sheriffs’ Relief Association Survivors and Dependents Fund: This fund assists
employees of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and their families
during times of crisis and tragedy. The LASD is a First City sponsor.

 999 for Kids: A philanthropic program of the LASD that raises funds to help
physically and mentally challenged children, within the Department of Children and
Family Services (DCFS) system. The DCFS is also a First City sponsor.

 Valley Oasis: Provides shelter and assistance to children and adults who are
victims of domestic violence in the Antelope Valley. Everyone who lives or works in
the Antelope Valley is eligible for First City membership.

As an added incentive, the credit union is also depositing $25 into the member’s newly
opened checking account to thank them for their business. In addition to the existing
Advantage, Interest and Free checking account offerings for members 18 and above,
the new Freedom Choice Checking was recently introduced especially for teens 16 and
17 years of age.

“First City has been involved in many fundraisers in the last several years,” said Tom
Thompson, the credit union’s Director of Corporate Communications. “By giving the
opportunity to our members and our employees to give, we have raised tens of
thousands of dollars for a number of different causes. Programs like this allow us to
make a real difference, where we can collectively gather our donations and our
resources to help people when they need it most. That’s what the credit union spirit is
all about.”
