Administrative Portfolio

         Developing the Administrative
                   Portfolio

• The Administrative Portfolio is defined by
  Seldin and Higgerson (2002) as “…a collection
  of materials that document administrative
  effectiveness” (p. xiii).

•   The Administrative Portfolio serves a number
    of useful functions including:
    –    allows one to display information about the “scope
         and quality” of activities and accomplishments for
         examination by others,
    –    contributes to sound personnel decisions,
    –    contributes to professional development,
    –    allows for self-reflection and assessment

• The Administrative Portfolio focuses on
  outcomes and/or behaviors:
  –   decision making
  –   planning
  –   organizing
  –   communication

• Some qualities become manifest in the detailing
  of the behaviors:
  –   knowledge and capacity
  –   dependability
  –   adaptability
  –   commitment to professional growth
  –   judgment
  –   interpersonal skill

• Some special concerns about the Administrative
  Portfolio include:
  – Value if preparer is the only person to read it?
  – Value when one is place bound and not required to
    complete portfolio?
  – Value if there are no plans to change jobs?
  – Value if leaving the institution/career?

     • Statements of responsibility, reflection, self eval, goals,
       evidence of help to others, accomplishments

  –   Determine purpose
  –   Id anticipated readers
  –   Develop table of contents
  –   Write basic information
