Job Corps has nearly four decades of success providing academic, vocational, and life skills training to our nation’s youth. Elaine L. Chao, Secretary UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF LABOR “The new Career Development Services System (CDSS) enables Job Corps to tailor its services to ensure that the unique personal and career requirements of each student are met.” Richard C. Trigg National Director Office of Job Corps For more information about Job Corps, call: 1– 800–733– JOBS http://jobcorps.doleta.gov October 2002 (Revised) TABLE OF CONTENTS INTRODUCTION ...................................................................... 1 Eligibility ............................................................................ 2 Enrolling in Job Corps ...................................................... 2 Types of Job Corps Facilities ........................................... 3 Using This Directory ........................................................ 3 TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES ................................................. 4 NATIONAL AND REGIONAL OFFICES .................................. 7 JOB CORPS CENTER DIRECTORY ..................................... 9 List of Centers by State ................................................. 11 Centers in Alphabetical Order ........................................ 14 JOB CORPS REGIONAL AND CENTER MAP ..................... 41 NATIONAL TRAINING CONTRACTORS.............................. 83 JOB CORPS CENTER OPERATORS .................................. 84 LIST OF ACRONYMS ............................................................ 86 i ii INTRODUCTION ob Corps is a U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (ETA) program. Job Corps is designed to assist young people who both need and can benefit from the wide range of services provided at a Job Corps center. Through its 118 centers, Job Corps offers academic, vocational, and life skills training through a unique approach of competency-based, individualized instruction. Services include: basic education; High School Diploma (HSD) program; General Education Development (GED); vocational skills training; advanced training; personal and career counseling; leadership training; residential living programs; healthcare; and related support services. This comprehensive combination of training and support services is designed to help each student become a responsible and productive citizen. Approximately 90 percent of the students live full-time at the Job Corps centers. The remaining students attend classes at the centers on a daily basis. Each center has classroom facilities, a cafeteria, health services, recreational facilities, and many have dormitories. Students are provided allowances for personal expenditures. Because Job Corps is a self-paced program, lengths of enrollment vary. Students may remain in the program for up to 2 years, but the average length of enrollment is approximately 7 months. An optional third year is granted for students who qualify for advanced training. Upon completion of the program, students are better prepared to obtain meaningful employment or further their education through Job Corps sponsored Advanced Career Training (ACT) or college. Career transition services are provided to all students separating from Job Corps. J 1 Eligibility Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to participate in Job Corps: ■ Applicants must be at least 16 and not yet 25 years of age at the time of enrollment (the maximum age may be waived for applicants with disabilities; the minimum age is still 16); Male applicants, 18 years and over, must have a signed Selective Service registration card; Each applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawfully admitted permanent resident alien, refugee, asylee or parolee, or other alien who has been authorized by the U.S. Attorney General to work in the United States; Applicants and/or applicants’ families must meet the low-income requirement; and, Applicants must be one or more of the following: – A school dropout; – In need of additional education, vocational training, or intensive career counseling and related assistance in order to participate successfully in regular schoolwork or to secure and hold employment; – Basic skills deficient; – Homeless, a runaway, or a foster child; – A parent. ■ ■ ■ ■ Enrolling In Job Corps After reviewing this directory, contact your local Job Corps center directly or call 1–800–733–JOBS for more information. 2 Types of Job Corps Facilities Civilian Conservation Centers (CCCs) — Residential centers located in national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and on other public lands owned and operated by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Interior, for the U.S. Department of Labor. Contract Centers — Residential and non-residential centers operated by major corporations and non-profit organizations under contractual agreements with the U.S. Department of Labor, selected through open competition. Extension Programs — Advanced Career Training and education offered at Job Corps centers, special training sites, and other locations, such as community colleges. Extension programs are provided through contracts with unions and public/private institutions. Using This Directory This Directory provides a list of educational and vocational training courses offered at the 118 Job Corps centers located in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Refer to the section “Training Opportunities,” on the following page, to explore the many training programs offered by Job Corps. When you have identified a career field/training program of interest, go to the section “List of Centers by State,” on page 11, and locate your current state of residency. Review the center information (immediately following the “List of Centers by State”) for each center located within your state to identify which center(s) offers the training program in which you are interested. For more information or assistance, contact your local Job Corps center or call 1– 800 –733– JOBS. A list of acronyms, with complete names, is provided on page 86 for your information. 3 TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES ob Corps offers an array of educational and vocational skills training to Job Corps students.
