POPULATION SERVED: African and Middle Eastern refugees, both men and women, ranging from 18-50 years old. BRIEF DESCRIPTION: (Services they will provide.) The EACOC serves as a bridge between its isolated community members and existing services rather than duplicate existing ones. This group teaches clients to become self sufficient and fully integrated into the American mainstream. Some of the services provided include: resettlement, translation, basic needs, transportation, housing assistance, help completing forms, family support case management, employment support, health access and education, and youth development. The EACOC is used by the One-Stop Career Centers in the area to help with difficult cases that require the group’s expertise. The facility uses intensive case management in their “Getting Ahead: Employment Support” program. This program is designed to meet the unique needs of refugees and offers assistance in pre-employment assessment, job readiness training, job placement, retention monitoring and employer support, and career advancement. This grant will help the EACOC place greater emphasis on helping female refugees gain employment. Using the funding, they will be able to expand the scope of programs mentioned above, and focus on using them to help female refugees. GOALS: (How many people served, placed in jobs or education, retained, etc.) During the 18 months of the grant, the EACOC expects to serve 72 clients with 10% of them being placed in post-secondary education or advanced training. Ninety-five percent (95%) will be employed with 58 clients keeping their jobs for three and six months. Seventy percent will be working in jobs that offer health benefits. Seventy percent will receive a starting wage of at least $8 per hour. Twenty-four of the 72 clients will be women.
