					                          Library Databases Worksheet

   1. Bring up the Cuyamaca College Library website (www.cuyamaca.edu/library).

   2. Take a look at the list of sources available to you under Articles.

   3. Click on General Onefile. General Onefile is "a one-stop source for news and periodical
      articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics,
      education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature, art,
      politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and general interest topics. Includes
      millions of full-text articles, many with images."

       a. First check the box next to ‘to document with full text.’ This will weed out records that
          only offer a citation.
       b. If you want a scholarly article, click on ‘to peer reviewed publications.’
       c. Type the following keywords: Tijuana River pollution
       d. Choose an article—then copy and paste the citation information below.




       e. Now click on the title of your article. As you can see, you have access to the
          complete article. You can read it on the screen, download it to your flash drive, email
          it to yourself, or print it out.
       f. In what ways is this article superior to a site you might if you performed the same
          search on Google.




4. Go back to the main library website. This time click on Proquest Newspapers (also under
‘Articles.’ Proquest Newspapers includes the complete full-text online editions of the San Diego
Union Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor, the
Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal.

       a. First check the box next to ‘Full text documents only.’ This will weed out records that
          only offer a citation.
       b. Type the following keywords: Tijuana River pollution
       c. Choose an article—then copy and paste the citation information below.




       d. Now click on the title of your article. As you can see, you have access to the
          complete article. You can read it on the screen, download it to your flash drive, email
          it to yourself, or print it out.
     e. In what ways is this article superior to a site you might if you performed the same
        search on Google.

5.   Go back to the main library website. This time click on ‘Articles & Databases A to Z.’
     This page offers a list of all of the periodical databases owned by the Cuyamaca Library.

     a. Choose a database and list it here:




     b.   Perform the search of your choice and list the first title in your search results list.
