St Joseph’s College Football 2009 Tour England & Spain Rationale The purpose of the tour is to: • Stimulate interest in football amongst the whole College community; • Immerse participants in the global culture of football by playing games, training with professionals and watching professional teams; • Build experience in players and coaching staff that can be utilised at home. Itinerary • The St. Joseph’s College 2009 Football Tour (U.K. & Spain) is scheduled for 17 days, Saturday 4th April – Sunday 19th April (arrive homeTuesday 21st April). • Draft Itinerary includes: o Saturday 4th April: o Sunday 5th April: Depart Sydney Arrive London Possibility of watching EPL game in London. Itinerary (continued) o Monday 6th April: Training at Charlton Athletic Football Club Academy Tour of Wembley Stadium Play Game 1 Training at Charlton Athletic Football Club Academy & site seeing Training at Charlton Athletic Football Club Academy & site seeing Transfer to Liverpool Visit Anfield, home of Liverpool FC Train at Liverpool Academy with Liverpool Academy coaches. o Tuesday 7th April: o Wednesday 8th April: o Thursday 9th April: o Friday 10th April: Itinerary (continued) o Saturday 11th April: Watch youth development training and EPL game. Mass in Liverpool Sports Science session Premier League Youth team game Train at Liverpool Academy training ground. Estimated Cost $5,750 • Includes • Flights, taxes, transfers • 14 nights full board – Breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation - 3 star • Coaching sessions at Charlton FC, Liverpool FC, Barcelona or Espanyol • Student playing matches • Wembley tour • Anfield Tour • Camp Nou Stadium Tour • Sports Science Sessions Cost • Costs Excluded (at this stage) Travel insurance Match tickets to games Optional sightseeing tours Payments • Players will make financial deposits with the College along the suggested schedule: • End of Term 2, 2008: Initial deposit of 30% of total cost (1st instalment) • End of Term 3, 2008: 2nd instalment of 40% of total tour cost • End of Term 4, 2008: 3rd and final instalment of 30% of tour cost • Conditions for refunds will be finalised before the initial payment is accepted. Fundraising • Very little fundraising will be coordinated by the College. • A fundraising dinner at the College is proposed. Date to be determined. • Australian Sports Foundation may be able to provide some tax assistance. Selection Criteria and Timeline • 28 students will be selected in the touring party. • 14 students will form a senior squad, comprising Opens and U/16 players • 14 students will form a junior squad, comprising U/15 and U/14 players • Supervision by three College staff members Selection Criteria and Timeline • Eligibility of players for the tour: • Must play football at SJC in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. • Must engage in training and fitness programs as outlined by the coaching staff during 2008 and 2009. This will include camps in 2008 and 2009. • Selected through designated tour trial games and training sessions by the coaching staff. It is proposed that an outside agent would assist with final squad selections. • Must be interviewed by coaching staff • Must be fit and well • Must be punctual and complete with all progressive tour payments • Must be “in good standing with the College” – academic/conduct/fees. Parent Involvement • Parents and families are welcome to accompany the tour but will be considered separate to the College touring party.
