FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

               YOUTH, THEATRE, AND DEAD PRESIDENTS…

“C’mere and kill a president!” After all, everybody‟s got the right… Dubbed “the
most controversial musical of all time”, the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit
„Assassins‟ will make its state debut at the Queensland Performing Arts Complex
(QPAC) this June, with brand new company Warehaus Theatre at the helm.

Showcasing a host of incredible Brisbane talent, this black comedy musical by
Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman examines the lives of various men and women
who have committed--or attempted to commit--the ultimate crime: presidential
assassination.

From Samuel Byck who hijacked a plane and tried to kill Nixon by crashing into the
White House, to Charles Manson groupie Squeaky Fromme, to the infamous John
Wilkes Booth, each presidential assassin is made to confront the fact that his or her
act of meaningless violence failed to bring about the desired results.

Director Kat Henry is thrilled to be involved in the production‟s Queensland debut,
touting it as a show which explores the corruption and absurdity of the American
dream

“In America anyone can have anything they want, anyone can be anything they want,
anyone can be president, or, if you can't, at least you can kill one and then you have it
- your 15 minutes of fame,‟

“Warehaus presents Assassins at a time when Australia is looking more and more to
the U.S. for its cultural and political lead. It‟s an incredibly timely production,” Ms
Henry says.

The smash hit musical is just a glimpse of what this brand new theatre company has to
offer Brisbane audiences. Warehaus Theatre has a commitment to challenging
theatregoers with contentious and powerful works.

Warehaus Theatre is a totally youth operated company whose foundation marks a new
direction in Brisbane theatre: the re-creation of an image for Brisbane as a cultural
hub.
The company was co-founded by James Dobinson (20) and Catherine White (20)
comprises a talented young team committed to dispelling the stigma of being an artist
in Brisbane.

Warehaus aims to give Brisbane performers, directors, playwrights and audiences the
opportunity to be exposed to new and exciting works in professional venues and
contexts.

“Warehaus is about taking theatrical risks with ground-breaking material, something
we are definitely doing with Assassins,” says Mr. Dobinson.
