JOB CONTEXT

The Homelessness Accommodation and Support Services portfolio forms part of the
Homelessness and Justice Division. The Division works with four major conceptual
domains for service delivery. They include:

      Early Intervention (Youth & Family)
      Integrated responses (Frontyard Youth Service)
      Accommodation and Support
      Justice programs


The Family Crisis Accommodation Service (FCAS) provides short-term accommodation to
families who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness and who also reside or
have significant links to the areas of Brimbank and or Melton.

FCAS works collaboratively with SASHS and is co-located at their premises in Sunshine.

The appointee will be expected to commit to Melbourne Citymission Mission Vision and
Values and align their work to the organization’s strategic objectives.

JOB PURPOSE

    1. Provide a high quality case management and support service to clients as
       identified by program criteria.

    2. Provide high quality assessment and intake services to families accessing the
       service.

    3. Develop, implement, monitor and review client assessments and case plans in
       conjunction with clients.

    4. To assist in the development of effective practice within FCAS

    5. Pursue and develop linkages with appropriate services including participating in
       network meetings

    6. Contribute to the development of culturally appropriate practice.

JOB OBJECTIVES

      Maintain an ongoing case load of 2 - 3 clients and develop a positive and
       constructive working relationship with clients.
      Participate in the Interim Response Roster as directed.
      Implement and document individual client assessments and related goal orientated
       case plans.
      Document regular up to date client case notes, client exit plans and case closures
       as appropriate.
      Assist and encourage clients to develop and maintain links with the wider
       community.

      To liaise and provide well-integrated case co-ordination with both internal and
       external staff, community and Government agencies, including the Department of
       Human Services, families and significant others.

      Plan and prioritise workload.

      Participate in training and development activities as required.

      To participate in regular, formal supervision with the Senior Case Worker.
      Participation in SASHS and Melton Housing Team Meetings as required.
      Maintain accurate data and statistical collection of clients and accounts e.g.
       SMART.
      Participate in program planning, including contributing to the monthly report
      Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy, aims and objectives of Melbourne
       Citymission.

JOB CAPABILITY REQUIREMENTS

   1. Tertiary qualification in social and/or welfare work is essential.

   2. An understanding of the issues that affect homeless people both systemically and
      practically.

   3. An understanding and knowledge in working with marginalised families.

   4. A clear understanding of working within a case management model.

   5. Well-developed communication, negotiation interpersonal skills.

   6. Well-developed written and verbal skills.

   7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

   8. A current Victorian driver’s licence is essential.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary:        Terms and Conditions are as per the Social and Community Services
               Award, SOC 2, Year dependent on experience

Form of Employment:           This is a part time position at 45.6 hours per fortnight
                              Fixed Term until 29 October 2010

Other Conditions:
      A current Victorian drivers licence is essential
      Subjected to a satisfactory Police Check and current Working with Children’s
       Check
      Access to salary packaging, arrangements and flexible work/life balance
       arrangements

There is no vehicle attached to this position, however fleet vehicles are available on a daily
basis for work purposes.
