Musconetcong Valley Community Association MVCA Summer Day Camp Guide 2008 Camp Musconetcong, Long Valley Located at the expansive Rock Spring Park complex on Schooley’s Mountain Road in Long Valley, Camp Musconectcong provides for the recreational, social, and developmental needs of its campers entering kindergarten through fifth grades. Camp Musconetcong has received the distinction of being the “best summer ever” for our campers and staff. Campers participate in specialty programs which include sports skills, arts and crafts, games, science, nature, music, and cooking. Campers make great use of the basketball and tennis facilities on site, as well as the playground during before and after care. Camp visits Hackettstown Community pool twice each week. Clover View Camp, Mount Olive Clover View Camp celebrates its seventh year of service to the Morris-Sussex area. Based at Turkey Brook Park in Budd Lake, Clover View Camp is convenient for residents of the Budd Lake and Flanders sections of Mount Olive, Stanhope, Netcong, Roxbury, and Hackettstown. The Camp is a smallgroup centered program with emphasis on team-building and projects. Campers swim twice each week and participate in barbeques with Camp Musconetcong. A caring, professional staff strives to provide each camper with a great summer experience. Nature Camp, Long Valley Nature Camp is a part-day program for campers ages 4 to 6 years. Participants enjoy a program including nature based themes and activities. Campers have the opportunity to learn from surprise guest speakers. The camp program includes a field trip each week. Camp meets for two hours each day for five days. This program is perfect for our youngest campers who are not ready for a full day program. Call the MVCA office (908-876-3141) for more information. Explorers Camp, Long Valley and Mount Olive Explorers Camp programs travel from the Long Valley and Mount Olive sites to area recreational, cultural, athletic, and educational trip sites. Our 13 years of Explorers Camp experience ensure that the summer’s calendar is filled with exciting, varied activities. Examples of trips include: swimming, bowling, movies, tours, sports, museums, outdoor activities, and amusement parks. The MVCA has partnered with the Mount Olive Township Recreation Department to administer its camp for 2008. Students entering sixth through eighth grades may register for Explorers. Counselor-in-Training Program Counselor-in-Training (CIT) programs for students entering ninth and tenth grades are offered at Camp Musconetcong and Clover View Camp. CIT’s participate in training classes led by the camp director, and assist counselors with their program duties. Each CIT completes a project in which s/he designs and leads an activity for the camp. Participants take classes on child development, camp administration, program design, first aid, and leadership. Liberty Meadows Bus Stop Youth and Explorers campers from the Independence— Liberty area can be dropped off at the local bus stop at 8:00 and picked up at 5:00pm. The bus will transport campers to Camp Musconetcong for the day’s activities. The bus service is provided at no additional cost. Optional before care is available beginning at 7:00am. After care is not available, however, campers may be enrolled at Camp Musconetcong after care. How is the MVCA Different? The MVCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing for the recreational, educational, and childcare needs of area residents. We strive to meet these needs through innovative programming, community involvement, and staff retention programs. Any surplus funds raised from program fees go directly toward supporting future offerings. Our philosophy is that excellent programs are the result of caring, highly trained staff, constant innovations, and self-evaluation. Our staff are trained in CPR, first aid, emergency procedures, curriculum development, and child development.
