With Memorial Day being just around the corner, this is an important time for us to remember the significance of this national holiday. The Scouting program focuses on the character-building opportunities available to all Americans. One of the most important opportunities for Scout growth occurs on Memorial Day. This may be one of the most high profile events for public awareness of Scouting. It is important that we recognize this opportunity to make each Scout aware of the magnitude of the sacrifice made by millions of Americans who died guarding our precious liberties and way of life. With this important task before us it is our responsibility as role models for today’s youth to see that they understand the significance of this solemn occasion. Every one of us should take this time to show the American public that the Scouting program is committed and focused on building character in today’s young citizens. With this in mind, we hope that you will encourage every Scout and every adult leader in your troop to attend the 2008 Memorial Day Parade and Observance in the Town of Davie on Monday, May 26, 2008.
