Protect Your Identity—Shred It and Forget It
Your Better Business Bureau is offering a free shredding service on June 7th.
DuPont, Wash.—May, 2008—Your local BBB is partnering with Rainier Pacific Bank
to bring you the 2008 Shred-A-Thon. Identity Theft is a common and growing
problem, and with new avenues for scammers to pursue, protecting yourself is a
Identity thieves rifle through trash, cars and mailboxes in search of checks, bank
statements and bills. They later use personal information from these documents to
steal money from your accounts or open new credit cards. Both consumers and
businesses are at risk—you should always shred your documents; don’t just toss
At the minimum, any documents that contain financial information, account
numbers, PINs, birth dates or Social Security numbers, should be shredded.
Examples include expired ID cards, legal documents, credit card and bank
statements, cancelled checks and carbon copies.

Krispy Kreme has also graciously donated doughnuts for this event.
