                                    SCOPE AND SEQUENCE
                                            February 2004




This outline may look similar to ones used in the past, but the sequential content and competencies have been
edited and updated. The Colorado content standards have been aligned with the national Family and Consumer
Sciences standards. It is crosswalked with the Colorado Academic Content Standards and the Colorado General
Workplace Competencies.
                                                       LIFE MANAGEMENT

PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The purpose of this course is to develop educated consumers with an understanding and academic knowledge of consumer resources and
financial institutions. Students integrate knowledge, skills and practices required by individuals and families to manage:
                    Personal / Family Resources
                    Job and Career
                    Personal / Family Finances
                    Personal / Family Wellness

Emphasis is placed on informed consumer decision-making, setting goals, solving problems, using interpersonal communication, and
developing character.

SUGGESTED GRADE LEVEL: 11th and 12th

SUGGESTED TITLES:
The title that you select for your course should be appropriate for your school and community. These are some titles currently used in
Colorado schools: Life Management, Independent Living, Living On Your Own, Contemporary Adult Living, Personal Finance, Consumer
Finance.

USE:
This outline is intended to be a guide as you develop and teach your course. You can select standards, topics, order of presentation, and
depth of units as appropriate for your school and community. It is expected that you will teach at least 80% of the course. You may
integrate various topics and skills throughout the course rather than teaching them as a separate unit (i.e. insurance).
