Alliant Energy is currently hiring for a Construction Specialist (Field
Engineer) to be located in Clinton, Iowa.

Position Summary/Accountabilities:
Primary customer contact and company spokesperson for residential and
small commercial customers for new or changes to existing electric and/or
gas/water services. Performs various engineering detail (and field) work
ensuring work orders are complete and the job site meets all requirements.
Responsible for selecting the most cost effective project design, which
incorporates construction standards.
Job Functions:
Works independently or with limited supervision and within established
policies, procedures and standards, performs the following engineering
detail or associated tasks, both in the office and in the field.
Works with hourly and salaried supervisors in scheduling work for others.
Plans, details, prepare estimates for work orders, prepare and closes work
orders; prepares materials lists, tickets and transfers, customer
contributions and charges.
Performs a variety of field work, including locating and sizing of services,
customer load determination, staking, survey work of moderate difficulty;
works with local government and prepares and obtains distribution
easements as assigned; makes field checks and inventories; gathers and
prepares information for various permits, licenses and joint use
applications.
Performs a variety of functions to track and document worked performed to
support business processes.
Work includes creating customer information and work activities requested
to performed in the work management system, GIS/Mapping System, CIS
and other systems. Responsible for the accuracy and quality of information
generated for each work activity.
Obtains information from engineering prints and prepares necessary maps
and sketches.
Surveys project if required or review survey documents and ensure
accuracy.
Prepares maintenance work sheets, accident reports and claim forms.
Interacts with Zone Managers and Resource Managers to identify resource
requirements.
Handles ordinary inquiries involving company procedures, extension rules,
service rules, code requirements, service entrance and metering
requirements.
Develops project charters and schedules using project management
concepts and computer software.
Provides technical support for all work requests through th e construction
process. Resolves technical issues and ensures that the crew understands
the work scope, detail and schedule.
Keeps current in knowledge and understanding of company procedures,
rates, rules, practices, standards, and application of construc tion materials.
Ensures work orders, "as builts" are complete.
Assists in community and customer relations as needed.
Performs other duties, which are similar, related or incidental of this
position.
May require travel and overnight stay as workload dictates.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
Physical requirements include driving a vehicle for extended hours, sitting
for long periods of time, standing, walking for great lengths of time, lifting,
hearing, seeing, writing, reading, field and depth percep tion and finger
dexterity. Environmental requirements include working indoors and
outdoors, in hot, cold, noisy, or hazardous environments for extended
periods of time.
Technical/Job Skill Qualifications:
The candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications and have
demonstrated the following technical or job skills:
Education and/or experience equivalent to an Associate degree from an
accredited college.
Basic mechanical skills gained through training or job experience.
Basic knowledge of financial analysis skills.
Effective computer skills (MS Word, Excel, E Mail or other systems related.
Some knowledge of electrical and gas theory, mathematics, physics and
construction practices
Basic surveying and drafting skills
Ability to work in a diverse wor k environment.
Demonstrated effective customer and employee communications skills.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
Note: This job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations
on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 199), and is subject to

Job Class Title - Customer Meter Reader
Position Summary/Duties -
Read and record meter readings from all residential, commercial,
industrial and rural meters using a porta-processor.

Job Functions -
Accurately read and record meter readings, includes resetting
demand meters and changing charts, tapes or cartridges.

Arranges appointments or self-reads for inside meters.

Report broken or missing meter seals.

Report damage to meters and signs of tampering.

Maintain good public relations with customers.

Verify customer meter numbers and names.

Explain company policies and report complaints and questions.

Observe all metering and service installations; report irregular or
hazardous conditions.

Visually check for inoperative clocks or potential indicating
devices.

Upload and download porta-processors for information transfer.
Complete final read requests for customers and conduct postings.

Read load research meters using hand held devices such with a
probe (no lap tops).

May change cartridges in residential/commercial meters.

Check and record meter readings sent in by customers and estimate
use when readings are not available.

Participates in safety meetings.

May read meters inside substations or near energized facilities
(when properly trained).

Performs other duties which are similar, related, or incidental to
this position.

Report to work fit for duty and free from the affects of drugs and
alcohol.

Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license.

This will be an entry level position with no residency
requirements.

The Customer Meter Reader position will have one six (6) month
step.

Position Purpose -
To perform customer service, maintenance, and service work for
the operation of the electric and natural gas systems in an assigned
area consisting of several towns and surround rural areas.

Job Responsibilities -
Essential:
Perform all duties so that employee and public safety are insured at
all times.
Perform any and all duties including line work on energized lines,
and responding to customer calls regarding electric and natural gas
service.
Install, remove, repair, and maintain electric service lines to
customers, including the installation and removal of materials and
necessary fixtures.
Check service, both electric and gas, in response to customer
inquiries, including "no lights" and "no heat" calls; be responsible
for the character of the work itself and for the serviceperson's and
meter reader's contact with and treatment of the public.
Test for natural gas leaks on customer appliances and piping and
on company meters, regulators and service equipment.
Locate underground facilities, both electric and natural gas, in
response to requests received through the appropriate "One Call"
system.
Read, set and remove electric and natural gas meters and
regulators, and in this connection, restore service to customer's gas
appliances.
Investigate high bill complaints, enforce the company’s collection
policies, explain company rates and policies to customers.
Plan and coordinate the work of line employees in the
construction, operation and maintenance of electric and gas
facilities.
See that clerical work incidental to assigned tasks is performed
accurately and on time and maintain accurate service records
following company accounting procedures and account
classifications.
Working on two (2) pounds of gas pressure or less from the
stopcock (shut off valve) into the building for the purpose of
changing out/rebuilding gas meters/regulators, minor pipe repair
(residential/small commercial). And this only if City and County
Ordinances/Codes allow it.
May stand fire watch if qualified/trained.
Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug
and alcohol abuse.
Other responsibilities:
Be responsible for the proper use and care of vehicles, equipment,
tools, and materials used on assigned jobs.
Report any abnormal or unusual conditions to the appropriate
supervisor.
Consult with and advise municipal authorities regarding the
installation and maintenance of street lighting and/or municipal
pumping installations.
Perform as assigned, miscellaneous routine tasks for electric and
natural gas operations, including but not limited to:
Must abide by residency requirements as determined by the
Manager (may be within the community or, within thirteen (13)
miles from the city limits of the community posted on the form).
Supervision / Work Direction -
Supervision: All line or service personnel requested to assist or
work in the assigned areas.

Work Direction: None

Minimum Qualifications -
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by vocational-
technical school power line degree.

Training:
Linesman Apprenticeship Course; some gas training preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:
Obtain and maintain valid commercial driver's license.

Experience:
Six (6) or more years experience in line construction, operating
and maintenance work, two (2) years or more of which shall have
been in the Maintenance and Service classification.

Physical Requirements/Demands:
Requires strength and endurance for arduous labor; heavy lifting;
normal functioning senses, including good eyesight - color vision -
field and depth perception; stooping, crawling, reaching,
twisting/standing.

KSA (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Must have a pleasing personality and the ability to be courteous
and tactful with others, the ability to instruct and direct the work of
others; good understanding of line construction, operations, and
related equipment; must have a good understanding of electric and
gas metering equipment; able to understand natural gas operations,
especially gas leak response and investigation, setting and
removing gas meters, and other basic customer service needs;
knowledge to operate underground piping and wire locators; ability
to safely operate heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and
other machinery as required; read and comprehend maintenance
manuals, technical instructions; good verbal and written
communication skills; familiar with all company policies and
procedures including the Safety Rule Book; basic knowledge of
First Aid and CPR; ability to read and comprehend Right To Know
information; ability to wear all safety equipment; must be willing
to accept additional training as needed to perform the required job
responsibilities; will be required to work irregular hours during
storm emergencies and as needed.

Environmental:
Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions;
confined spaces, height, moving mechanical parts, exposure to

          INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST 3
                    $44,366 - $67,500

The Iowa Communications Network has an opening for an
Information Technology Specialist 3. The ICN provides full-
motion video to 773 classrooms around Iowa, located in schools,
National Guard armories, libraries, hospitals, and federal and
state government offices as well as IP video services. ICN
services also include high-speed Internet access and telephone
and data service for our authorized customers. This position is
based in the Grimes State Office Building at 400 East 14 th Street,
Des Moines, Iowa 50319.
This position is part of ICN's Information Services team
responsible for maintenance, support, and modification of
existing applications throughout the organization. Individual will
respond to requests for assistance, diagnose problems, and
implement corrections and updates. Serve as an application
developer and systems analyst for the development of new
applications as dictated by customer needs. The position is
responsible for determining business requirements, application
design, coding, testing, documentation and implementation of
computer programs. Individual will coordinate with team
members to ensure all requirements are being met and that
there is adherence to all applicable standards and policies.
Individual should be detail-oriented, customer-focused, and be
able to work independently with minimal supervision or as part of
a team. Willingness to learn is essential. The ability to effectively
communicate and coordinate the work of others is required.
Diagnostic skills ad the ability to recommend technology based
solutions are needed. This person must also have strong
analytical skills with the ability to progress logically through
problem solving. This person must have a customer service
orientation focus with the ability to foster a team relationship.
Ability to adapt to changes and to multi task. Must pass a
criminal background check and be in compliance with Iowa tax
filing requirements.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience
developing applications in any of these technologies: VBA
programming with MS Access, Visual Basic 6, or .Net web
applications. Other desired skills include familiarity with
database design principles and SQL programming.

Selective Certification Codes:
423 – VB.Net: 6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a
combination of both in the following:
•       Develop Windows forms based on applications using
Microsoft VB.Net
•       Develop web based applications using Microsoft
ASP.Net
•       Use ADO.Net to interact with Microsoft SQL Server and
other data bases
•       Develop and manage .Net components in an object
oriented environment

022 - Microsoft C#.Net: 6 months experience, 12 semester
hours, or a combination of both in the following:

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation all steam turbo
generating units, steam generating units, auxiliary equipment, etc., in
the plant for a given shift.

Job Responsibilities -
Essential:
Starts, operates, inspects and shuts down all steam turbo generating
units, steam generating units and all associated auxiliary equipment.
Observe and record pressures, temperatures and flows on all operating
equipment; check to see that all meters and gauges indicate normal
conditions for loading on units.
Operate electrical switchboards and associated equipment.
Receive and execute orders from Energy Management Center relative
to electric loads and switching instructions.
Report any abnormal operating conditions on plant equipment or
electric lines to Plant Superintendent and Energy Management Center
and record action taken on log sheet.
Supervise and assist in training of other operating employees and, in
absence of supervision, assume full charge of plant and grounds.
Supervise and assist in cleaning and housekeeping of switchboards and
operating floor equipment.
Administers HOLD CARD procedures to take equipment out of service
and to restore equipment to active status.
Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and
alcohol abuse.
Other responsibilities:
Work in maintenance crew while plant equipment is down for
inspection, maintenance or emergency repairs.
Perform other related work as required for the safe, orderly, efficient
and harmonious operation of the plant.

Minimum Qualifications -
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by courses in steam
power plant operation, practical electricity and power plant
apprenticeship training course.

Training:
Apprenticeship training.

Experience:
Internal seniority and progression system; Interstate Power Company
training program; four (4) years in actual power plant operations.

Physical Requirements/Demands:
Good health; good eyesight: color vision - field and depth perception;
ability to properly wear all safety equipment; some climbing involved;
ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds; not afraid of heights.

KSA (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Ability to read blueprints, maintenance manuals, technical manuals;
mechanical aptitude; reading and math knowledge; good verbal and
written communication skills; ability to read and comprehend Right To
Know information; basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR; ability to
exercise good judgment during emergencies; capacity for quick,
accurate decisions and speed of execution.

Environmental:
Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions; confined
spaces, height, moving mechanical parts, exposure to heat/cold, fumes,
dust, noise, water; subject to shift changes.
