REPORT OF THE 2005 NOMINATING COMMITTEE
In accordance with the By-Laws of the San Mateo County Bar Association, the Nominating Committee has met and after consideration of several qualified candidates, presented the following slate to the Board of Directors: For Secretary: Nancy De Ita For the Board of Directors (each serving 3-year terms): Christopher Morales; Nancy L. Fineman; Colleen E. McAvoy. The Board adopted the report of the Nominating Committee at its August 26, 2005 meeting. Pursuant to Article 9, B (5) of the Association Bylaws, the active members in good standing may nominate additional candidates for Secretary and non-officer directors, provided that each additional nomination shall be in writing, shall specify the position for which the additional nomination is made, shall be signed by nine (9) members other than the candidate, all of whom are active members in good standing at the time of nomination, and shall be filed in the office of the Association not later than noon on the third Tuesday of October [October 18, 2005]. Such written nomination must be accompanied by consent to candidacy signed by the nominee. Additionally, if a candidate elects to submit a Candidate’s Statement pursuant to Article 9, Section C. 3.(e), of the By-Laws, the candidate may consider addressing the following questions in said Statement. • Why are you interested in serving on the SMCBA board? • Do you have any previous board service, leadership, or volunteer experience? Are you presently serving on other boards? • How will the SMCBA benefit from your participation? • What do you expect the SMCBA to do for you so that your experience on the Board turns out to be satisfying? • What kind of time commitment will you be able to make to the SMCBA? Are you willing to serve on committees and task forces? Can we expect you to come to board meetings regularly? To be included in the balloting for positions on the Board of Directors, all nominations must be received at the Bar Association offices no later than noon, on Tuesday, October 18, 2005. MISCELLANEOUS NEWS NEW COURT EXECUTIVE OFFICER Judge Mark R. Forcum, chair of the Superior Court Executive Officer Search & Selection Committee, has announced that the court has hired John Fitton to serve as the Court’s Chief Executive Officer. Fitton replaces longtime Court Executive Officer Peggy Thompson, who retired in March. Mr. Fitton was selected after a nationwide search to recruit the best possible candidate. Judge Forcum said the Court was extremely pleased to recruit an individual like Mr. Fitton who has “the leadership skills and vision to insure the court continues to operate effectively to serve the citizens of San Mateo County.” Mr. Fitton had previously served as one of Ms. Thompson’s deputy court administrators in the municipal court and as a deputy court executive officer from 1991 to 1998 in the superior court. Most recently, Mr. Fitton has served as Associate

Director/Assistant Professor of Student Support Services at Southern Oregon University. Mr. Fitton commenced his new job responsibilities in July.
