WINTER ISSUE
Vol. L No. VIII
The Kelsey Kindred is pleased to announce the formal acceptance of 'Hester Kelsey' as the second child and first daughter of William Kelsey, our puritan ancestor. Considerable, credible evidence exists to support the decision made by the Kindred Board and the Kindred Membership at our annual meeting. Please forward any lineage requests for Hester Kelsey information to Genealogist, Paula Carter and/or forward Membership applications to Membership Secretary, Sue Kelsey Hall. To date, we have added just under 100 people to our new 'Hester' line. Among these new descendents is the infamous abolitionist, John Brown; and, we have tied a Hester branch back into our Kelsey lineage through a branch from the line of Mark.
The 2005 Kelsey Kindred Annual Reunion
Friday evening September 9th in Clinton, CT was clear and warm, as we meet for the 77th reunion. Our hospitality night began at 7:00 pm. Members were offered a chance to visit the historical room on the second floor. The business meeting was held at 8:00 pm. This meeting was monumental in the future of the Kindred. Paula Carter our genealogist explained to us that she, among other genealogists; believe that there is enough information to prove that Hester was a child of William Kelsey. The membership voted to accept Hester as a child and so opened up a whole new line of descendents! This is exciting news because we have had a file of applications waiting. Kels Kelsey offered to plan the 2006 reunion in Niagara Falls Canada. Kels had recently been there on a trip and felt that it would be a wonderful location for us. We gladly accepted his help and look forward to hearing more about the plans! When the business meeting concluded we held our raffle. During the evening the Kelsey Remembrance quilt was on display. Chances for the quilt were sold throughout the weekend. Saturday morning at 9:45 a group of members met at the Clinton Town Hall for a trip to the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Museum. The visit started with a lecture about Indian and settler relations which was very interesting. After the lecture we were free to roam
the museum. The Caribou hunt and the Pequot Village areas were the most popular. Most of the Kindred members spent the whole day at the museum while a few headed to the casinos! We returned to Clinton at 4:30 pm to relax for a few minutes before the Lobster/Clam bake. Our group pictures were taken at 6:00pm and the food was served afterward. Once again we held our Baking contest. Our grand prizewinner for the baking competition was Jared Kelsey Hall (11yrs) for his apple pie! Thanks to all the entrants the members enjoyed a wide variety of delicious desserts! Barbara Martin donated to the Kindred a brass Kelsey doorknocker and a set of crystal stemware with the Kelsey coat of arms on them. These items were put into a special raffle to raise money for the Kindred. Thank you Barbara for the generous donation! We hope the lucky winners are enjoying their prizes. Sunday was a beautiful day to spend at the beach. Our cookout was well attended and the food was great. The children and some of the adults played in the sand, flew kites, and even played a game of volleyball or two. Once again we held our raffle and pulled the ticket for the remembrance quilt winner. Ken Carter of Corning New York was the lucky winner. Thank you to our quilt creators Lori Carter and Krista Shaffer for all of their hard work. We look forward to the 2nd Annual Remembrance quilt! Mid afternoon was time to pack up and say goodbye for another year. Thank you to all who attended. We hope you all are looking forward to attending next year in Niagara Falls!

The 2005 scholarship winner
This years winner was Heather Cohen of Roanoke Texas (line of Stephen). Heather graduated last June from Northwest High School in Justin, Texas. She is now attending college at Brigham Young University in Salt Lake City Utah. Heather’s essay about genealogy focused on looking into our family history to correct some of the problems that face our families today. She ends her essay with a brief question for all of us to consider. “Are we soon forgotten?”
Congratulations Heather, good luck with your education!
