Types of Financial Assistance
Teaching Assistantships—work for a professor grading papers(20 hrs/wk), assisting with classes Research Assistantships—doing work for professor. Fellowships—no extra work required Loans
Fellowships, TA, RA-ships
Generally for PhD students May include tuition waiver Stipend, generally enough to live on, if you live cheap. Take reduced course load (3 per semester) Fellowships, no work, tuition waiver, full course load (4 per semester)

Each School is different, so investigate thoroughly. USC– tuition is $13,442, tuition waiver $11,000=$2442 effective tuition
Stipend is $10,000 Because of available aid, tuition may not be the best indicator of affordability.
