Thank you for looking into the bigger picture.
Great town good job well done.
Great town good job well done.
Keep up the good work - don't slack off! Put a
cross walk between Mollers, the library, to the
store!! Enforce a 25 mph on Main St. Never
have electronic voter machines!! Keep the
paper ballots!
Keep up the good work - Encourage more land
easements - only way to protect forever. Don't
clutter up Main St with any more signs.
The Select Board should actively seek a more
diverse membership for town committees. At
present there are far too many multiple
committee members. Committee members
should be restricted to one committee at a
time.
I do wish newcomers would stop trying to
change things to what they were "where they
came from".
Any new stores downtown should be housed
in existing buildings. Otherwise, with new
structures we would lose more than we would
gain.
Small is good. Sustainable is good. No
reason why a small, primarily residential/rural
village shouldn't be sustainable.
Allowance/encouragement for small/local
businesses would be a good thing.
At my age, 83, I'm satisfied with things as they
are. Prefer to let younger people plan for a
future in which they will be participating.
No more "Forums" please! Why would you
want to bury electrical lines to make the town
"more attractive" when it's now looking so
citified and common place with cross walks
and painted parking lines?
We plan to retire to our house in Hancock and
hope to see Hancock preserved as one [of] the
finest historic villages of New Hampshire.
Misc. comments written against question 1:
Village center is town's business center & I
would like to keep it there. Don't want
significant growth, "orderly" or not. NB:
caveats on support of items in question 7.
Is this the best and fairest way to do a Survey?
Shouldn't they be mailed to a small, controlled
group?
Thanks to the folks doing survey.
add highway dept to regional choices
Don't drive fixed income elder folks out of town
with high taxes & no way to stay in town when
they need assistance to stay in their homes (or
small group house).
Hope we will be hearing about the results of
the survey. Thanks for asking.
Thanks to all the community members who
serve on town boards!! It is a huge
commitment of time & energy but is what has
kept the town growing & thriving. Keep up the
excellent work.
Don't preserve Hancock in amber. Let it have
the flexibility to grow and develop with
reasonable (I know, find the definition of
reasonable) environmental & social &
economic limits. Don't restrict development so
much that working people can't live here. It
would be terrible to see Hancock become a
town of only the very wealthy. We need that
mix.
Ref: Q7 - I would prefer to see development
which does not take the form of a large
complex - no large all-in-one buildings - too
shopping mallish!
I disagree on the term "orderly growth". We
can't allow growth and keep Hancock. It just
doesn't work that way. No town should feel
obliged to allow growth of any kind. It's not
discriminatory - it's survival of a beautiful little
town.
My thanks to the committee for all they are
doing. It is so important to have a vision, so
you know where you are going.
In the ideal world there would be an alternative
to, or an abatement for, high property taxes.
Thank you.
Concern regarding Q7 [large development
project] Why is this on the survey?
Changes made regarding pedestrian & auto
traffic are not in keeping with rural character.
J. Schmidt
Can't affort to have my property taxes raised to
support any of this. Higher property taxes
would force me to sell my home.
It's a great little town, Hancock; don't screw it
up!
Thanks for the survey.
Please get those darn yellow lines out of the
middle of Main Street. It makes the place look
too citified. They didn't used to be there. From
Question 8: I would worry about the town of
Hancock losing control and/or getting stuck
with excess or unreasonable costs generated
by another town)
If assessments heavily consider a view, the tax
should be levied only on the transaction.
Annual view taxes are unfair.
If nothing changed, Hancock would still be a
great town to live in.
1b. and d. seem wrongheaded. What makes
soil conditions in the western and northern
sectors less suitable for "higher density
residency" than the northeast and southerly
ones? Conservation should be encouraged in
all directions.
I think it is a great thing that the town does by
getting opinions of the residents before making
future plans. It lets us [ ? ] be part of the big
picture. Thanks.
Thank you for all your hard work on the Master
Plan.
I believe in "Open Spaces" - but my definition
is different from the town's definition. Open
space, to me, means open fields, grass, with
woods nearby for cover. It is where the woods
meets the field that most wildlife live: deer,
moose, turkey, rabbit, woodcock, pheasant,
etc. The town's definition of "open space" is
dense woods - God forbid we cut a tree!
Our selectmen, boards & committees are
doing an excellent job!
Please eliminate, permanently, the muddy
slippery puddles on the Library side of Main St:
worst one is atr N.W. corner with School St., in
front of the Inn, in front of second tree from
west, & just before cement begins; also in front
of Crebbins on School St. In winter it crosses
the road & is ice. Ice also lines Main St. at the
curbs where one has to walk.
I hate to see building occuring on class 6
roads. Hancock is so special - relatively small
& pristine. I hate to see it get bigger.
Thank you for asking.
Question 8 [regional approach] - At least let's
talk to see where we can cooperate to improve
services and save money.
Thank you for doing this survey.
Horrible short pencil, sorry! [presumably re
handwriting!]
We have recently moved to Hancock because
of its very special qualities.
Safety on Main Street to[o] bad if someone is
injuried or killed because people walk in the
road.
This whole sheet probably sounds pretty
reactionary - Don't change things, etc. - but
truthfully, we came here because we did like it
as it is & like that it does not feel degraded in
the way of much of our "culture".
It seems short sighted to oppose a plowed
sidewalk because it spoils the Historic District
when we have overhead wires and a cross
walk. Would like to see some affordable
housing so young people could afford to live
here.
Thank you for your effort & time.
Thank you for doing this survey.
Thank you for your effort.
Keep up the good work.
Give stats on survey. Example: Go back 20
or 30 years to show how the town has grown,
what services were provided, building permits,
population (they make people think). I love
this town and thank you for asking.
Change will come and for the most part, who
really likes it. We are creatures of habit &
when it comes, let us hope that there is plenty
of discussion, debate and resolution in the
accepted outcome.
Keep it simple. Do not over regulate laws.
Let us not fix something that is not broken.
Hancock is & always will be a special place.
Nice countryside, nice people IF we could just
adjust the winter months into warmer weather!!
Ha Ha
