FAMILY MORDELLIDAE (Tumbling flower beetles)
J. McNamara Fifty-six species of mordellids have been recorded from Canada. The adults are small, humpbacked beetles and their most distinctive feature is their long pointed abdomen. They are commonly found on umbelliferous flowers on which they feed. Larvae are carnivorous or feed on plant material. Some are found boring in rotten wood, others are leaf and stem miners but very few are known. The North American species of Mordellidae have been revised by Liljeblad (1945), the genera of the world have been treated by Ermisch (1951), and a catalogue of the Nearctic species has been recently published (Bright 1986); nevertheless a modern revision would be useful. The Anaspini, previously included within the Mordellidae, are now in the family Scraptiidae.
