Chicago, IL – (April 9, 2010) Roy E. Spencer, president of Perma-Seal Basement Systems, located

Chicago and Northern Illinois.
Previously, Spencer was Vice Chairman of the Better Business Bureau for four years and on the
Board of Directors for another three years.
“We are very pleased to have Roy Spencer, with his extensive understanding of business issues and
concern for ethical business operations, as the head of our Board of Directors,” said Steve J. Bernas,
president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau. “Roy has been a long-time supporter of the
BBB. Now as Chairman, his knowledge and active participation in BBB programs continue to be
an even greater benefit and example to our 7,000 current northern Illinois Accredited Businesses,
along with those wishing to apply for Accreditation.”
Spencer’s company has been an Accredited Business with the Better Business Bureau since 1985.
He is founder of Perma-Seal Basement Systems and has been its president since he started the
business in 1979.
“Early in my working career, I worked for companies where I was disappointed with their shoddy
approach to workmanship and ethics. I knew there was an opportunity for a company that could
help a customer the right way.” Spencer explained. “Both Perma-Seal and the BBB place a high
value in supporting and fostering ethical business operations. I’m excited about how my
experience can benefit the BBB and its other Accredited Businesses.”
Spencer replaces Chuck Gavzer, partner at Cataldo Family Enterprises that is a real estate
development company, who was Chairman for the past two years.
