The 2006 MSFC Annual Meeting The 13th MSFC Annual Meeting, “Seeking Reproductive Justice: Abortion Practice in a Changing Political Climate,” was held on March 11-12, 2006, in Baltimore, MD. Sessions covered such diverse topics as how religious restrictions on reproductive health services affect medical training, the international organization Women on Waves, applying to residency programs as a pro-choice student, an MVA workshop in which participants practiced on papayas, and a panel of physicians who provided abortions before Roe v. Wade. We continued our popular advanced track aimed at 3rd- and 4th -year medical students and residents, as well as our clinical track covering medical and surgical abortion techniques. 382 students representing 74 schools attended the conference! On their conference evaluations, participants reported that they gained knowledge, inspiration and ideas to take back to their schools and residency programs. Many participants commented that it was particularly valuable to meet role models who inspired them to continue their commitment to reproductive freedom. One interesting result of the conference is that based on pre-conference and post-conference evaluations, there was a 12% increase in the percentage of participants who say they will provide abortion services in their future practice. This increase proves that the Annual Meeting is an important part of ensuring that reproductive choice will remain real for women!
