Go-Getta’z Sporting Zone Business Plan

Executive Summary
This is my business plan for Go-Getta’z Sporting Zone. In the following you will
find everything about my business and what makes my business unique. Go-Getta’z
Sporting Zone is a sporting goods store that sells everything you will find in a Modell’s,
but for a lower and more reasonable price. I plan to make this business very profitable
within 10 years of starting it. Go-Getta’z Sporting Zone, “If You Want It Go Get It!”

The Business
Description
My business plan is to start a sporting goods store. The name of my business will be Go-
Getta’z (yes with a z) Sporting Zone. My main focus will be to market sporting products
such as cleats, basketballs, baseballs, NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL apparel, such as jerseys
and hats, and Under Armour apparel. My business will be a little bit of both, a service and a
product. It will be both because not only will you be able to buy sporting products at my
store, but you will be able to test the product before you buy it.

What makes my business unique is that, if you buy baseball cleats, you will be able to test
them out on an actual baseball field; in the store. If you buy basketball sneakers, you will be
able to put them on and shoot a few hoops to get the feel of the new sneaker. Same thing if
you buy football cleats. You will be able to put your cleats on and toss the football around
and see if you have enough traction to play in them. Another thing that makes my business
unique is we can customize your apparel or footwear. If you want any customization on your
sneakers or cleats, you can ask and we will do it for a small charge. Also, if you want a
picture on your fitted hat, we can also do that for a small charge.

Location
My business, Go-Getta’z Sporting Zone, will be located in North Philadelphia somewhere
on 5th Street. I chose this spot because I don’t only want to make money; I want to give
back to my community. Another reason I chose this location is because not only can people
drive there, but if you don’t have a license or if you are not old enough to drive, you can take
public transportation. One of my main reasons for choosing this location is because no
matter what day it is, there are always people walking back and forth on 5th Street.

The hours for my business will be Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm and
on Friday and Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. I will also be open on Sunday but only from
8:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Management Plan
Key Personnel
Antonio Perez, III
Owner/CEO
I attended Mercy Vocational High School and then went on to attend Jamestown Business
College in New York, which was paid for by Comcast. I went to Jamestown so I can obtain
my MBA, which is my Masters of Business Administration. There at Jamestown, I learned
more business ethics and etiquette. I also learned how to properly run my business.

My work experience includes working at Comcast on 13th and Arch St. Comcast was my
CO-Op job when I went to Mercy. I have been working there for about 3 years now, after
college, and I love it. I like how everyone is friendly with me. I am also close to my father
and my pay is very reasonable. I was making $16.50 an hour, and I was working 40 hours a
week. I also received full health benefits, and I worked only four days a week. I also got
paid overtime for any hours I work. After three more years of working at Comcast, I fina lly
decided to get a loan of $100,000 and start Go-Getta’z Sporting Zone.

My role in the business I have opened is being the owner and CEO. I have to overlook
everything. My main focus, as being the owner and CEO, is to see how all the business
operations are running and how well we are progressing in our gross income.

Earvin “Magic” Johnson
Marketing Manager

Earvin Johnson, my Marketing Manager, attended Everett High School, where he earned the
nickname “Magic” by a sports writer who saw the 15-year old star score 36 points, 16 assists,
and 16 rebounds, in Lansing, Michigan. After his high school education, Earvin Johnson got
a basketball scholarship to attend Michigan State. After two years at Michigan, Earvin
Johnson entered the NBA Draft to pursue his dreams of playing in the NBA.

Earvin Johnson’s work experience was the same for 13 years. He was the number one pick
in the 1979 NBA Draft. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers and there is where his
legend began, and finished. At the close of the ’91 NBA season, Earvin Johnson stated he
will be retiring. He did so and five years later, he came back to play for the Los Angeles
Lakers for the ’95-’96 season. He retired again after the Lakers lost to Houston in the first-
round of the playoffs. In his 13-year career, “Magic” Johnson scored 17,707 points (19.5
ppg), grabbed 6,559 rebounds (7.2 rpg), and dished out 10,141 assists (11.2 apg). In addition
to 1,724 steals, good for ninth place on the all-time list, he also holds the top marks for most
All-Star Game assists, 127 and three-point baskets, 10. Johnson was a great player. Who
wouldn’t want a man who earned so many honors such as, being elected to Naismith
Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002, NBA champion in 1980, '82, '85, '87, '88, NBA
Finals MVP in 1980, '82, '87, NBA MVP in 1987, '89, '90, Nine-time All-NBA First Team
between 1983-91, All-NBA Second Team in 1982, 12-time All-Star; All-Star MVP in 1990,
'92, Olympic gold medalist in 1992, and being named One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA

History in 1996. He has also earned the honor of being named one of the NBA’s 50 greatest
players.

At my sporting goods store, Earvin “Magic” Johnson is responsible for all my marketing
plans as my Marketing Manager. He is responsible for promoting all of my products. He is
also responsible for getting commercial time. A very important responsibility is to research
sales prices and the policies for pricing.

Jose Bocachica
Operations Manager

Jose Bocachica, who is my best friend, attended Cardinal Dougherty High School and
graduated with 2nd honors in his class. After high school, he went on to attend Penn State
and obtained his Masters of Business Administration.

His work experience includes working at Sneaker Villa as a manager. He also mana ged at
Footlocker and opened his own sneaker shop but it went “belly-up” about 2 years later.

In my business, Jose is my Operations Manager. He is basically responsible for everything
inside my business. He decides how we open and close everyday. He is also responsible for
deciding how to deal with irate customers, and he is responsible for coming up with the
policies for returns and broken items.

Go-Getta’z Sporting Zone Business Plan

Marketing Plan
Target Market
The target markets for my business, as individuals, are professional and amateur athletes.
They would be my target market because I am selling sporting products. I am also selling
athletic footwear that may attract an athlete such as a football player.

I don’t just want to target individuals, but I also want to target large entities such as schools.
I want to target schools because they need sporting equipment for basketball, football,
baseball, etc. My target market will be schools because schools have athletic departments
and I would like to sponsor the school’s basketball team. I can “kill two birds with one
stone” as they say because I can target the market I want to and also advertise my business
as well.

Competition
My first competitor would be Modell’s Sporting Goods located on 907 Market Street in
Philadelphia, PA. The products they sell are sneakers, sporting equipment, etc. It is very
similar to my business. They also sell Under Armour, which I will also sell at my store. I
plan to beat my competition by having way better prices. I will also have discounts given in
the Philadelphia Inquirer. I also plan to beat them out by having a club people can join. I
know Modell’s also has a club, but in my club you won’t have to buy $400 worth of items.
Every time you buy an item, you will get a 5% discount.

Another competitor would be Mitchell & Ness’s Sporting Goods located on 1318 Chestnut
Street in Philadelphia, PA. The products they sell at their business are also similar to mine.
They sell fitted caps, throwbacks jersey, and authentic NFL, NBA, and MLB jerseys. They
will be a little harder to compete against simply because they have been around and everyone
likes their jerseys. I plan to beat them out by having giveaways. Every time you enter my
store, you will be given a card to fill out and if your name is drawn, you will win a free
throwback jersey, fitted cap, or an authentic sports jersey of your choice. Also, when you
come into my store, you will also get a 10% discount on all apparel in the store.

Advertising Plan
I plan to advertise my business in many ways. When I first open up my business, I plant to
advertise by word of mouth. I would also like to advertise by posting flyers on the street, in
local churches in the area, and by leaving them in stores located around me. Knowing I
don’t have a lot of money to begin with, I may also post an advertisement in the local
newspaper and maybe earn enough revenue to place an advertisement in the yellow pages.
As my business grows and we earn more revenue, I plan to advertise by using billboards
located on major highways and streets. When revenue is steady, I would like to make a
commercial advertising all the things my business sells.
