                           President’s Message
I hope those of you who attended the Federation Show and Conference this past week-
end had a wonderful time. It was such a thrill to meet and put faces with the names of fi-
ber artists whose work I have admired for some time, and to discover the extremely tal-
ented work of artists I will be following in the future as well. It was great to learn from
members during workshops and socializing about tips, techniques and upcoming work-
        shops.
I want to thank all of you who volunteered your time and talents to make the conference a
success. It took the participation of many, and to you we are thankful. Some of you put
your personal life on hold to take the reigns and coordinate what was not a small task.
We owe you our gratitude for a job well done.
February is the month of passion. I mention this because I recently learned that if you
have a “passion” in your life you could increase the longevity of your life. We who love
what we do really don’t need a reason – but isn’t it nice we can do it longer.

        Rhonda Douglass
Rhonda will be presenting our program on February 25th. She is a
felter and will bring a slide presentation exploring the techniques of
feltmaking with the emphasis on wet, hand-rolled felting and nuno felt.

Who We Are Where We Meet
Dallas Area Fiber Artists is a non-profit organization, which
promotes fiber arts and artists through education, workshops,
style shows and annual exhibitions. Our members are enthu-
siastic, creative people who explore and expand all facets of
fiber arts. Monthly programs include lectures and demonstra-
tions by professionals on varied subjects such as: stitchery,
fabric painting, fabric manipulation, papermaking, paper as
well as fabric collage, garment design, fiber jewelry, beading,
altered books, free-form crochet and other aspects of fiber
techniques and art. We are associated with the Texas Fed-
eration of Fiber Artists. Membership is open to anyone who
is actively involved in the creation of original fiber art or inter-
ested in its promotion as art. Visitors are welcome at our
 monthly meetings.
We meet every 4th Monday of the month at the C. C. Young
Retirement Community in the Center for Arts and Education,
Porter Auditorium. (see adjacent map). The business
meeting begins at 7:15 pm with program following.
Monthly Art Labs are held as scheduled at various locations,
so check the newsletter or the website.

                                                 Meeting Minutes
January 28, 2007 CC Young Retirement Community, 7:15 pm
The meeting began with a great Show & Tell session. Those who brought wonderful art and creations to share were
Gloria Haefner-Gatti, Deborah Boschert, Pam Patton and Delores Lyon. In addition to regular Show & Tell, Cassie Cur-
nutt brought many of the wonderful silk pieces she bought in India during her 2 ½ week trip just last month.

Michelle Knoerzer discussed final details for the conference. We currently have 70 registered. The judge, Joan Schulze,
will be providing critiques. She passed out New Horizons in Fiber 2008 postcards to those who had the opportunity to
continue to get the word out. Check in at the Southfork Hotel will begin at 3:00 on Friday. Registration will begin at that
time, also. Food items for the reception can be delivered to the Gallery on Friday for storage in their refrigerator.
Delores will email each one who signed up to bring a food item as a reminder. Be sure to register your “viewer’s choice”
in the gallery during the reception.

Flo Barry has been overwhelmed by the response for the Centerpiece Boxes and now has enough submitted to have a
drawing on Saturday night at the banquet as well as Sunday morning during the buffet breakfast and slide jam. Flo re-
quested that everyone email her the title of their box and a description. She is not sure she has a correct listing. There
will also be door prizes.

Sara Moe reminded us of the 17 Baby Lock Embellisher machines that will be for sale after the conference at $349
each.

Delores introduced our new student member, Annie Wilson, and our visitor Barbara Snow.

Deborah Boschert said that Rhonda Douglass, our president, will be presenting the February program on Felting, with a
possible “sit and sew” time in advance instead of a mini-workshop. The March program has not yet been finalized. In
April our presenter will be Deanna Wood (www.deannawood.com) on Artist’s Books with a mini-workshop in advance of
the meeting.

Rhonda concluded with an announcement about Valery Guignon’s teaching schedule.

The balance of the evening was our first Treasure Trove Sale of members furnishing any and everything from their
stashes for sale. All money received goes to our treasury.

                                        Cards for Soldiers
Article from the February issue of the Creative Connections Newsletter by the San Antonio Fiber Artists:

Norma Guerrera in the Public Affairs Office at Brooke Army Medical Center said that cards are OK to send, but keep in
mind they receive many cards, so keep everything simple and most important, remember the soldiers have wounds.

SO: minimum text (Hugs, thank you for your service, etc.) no glitter, loose threads, feathers or glued on items that might
fall off (fused flat layers OK) use one envelope if sending several cards. Remember someone has to open and read the
cards to the soldiers.

•The secret of being a bore is to tell every-
  thing.
•The secret of the arts is to correct nature.
•Man is free at the moment he wishes to be.
•The happiest of all lives is a busy solitude.
•Originality is nothing but judicious imitation.
•Judge a man by his questions rather than
  by his answers.
•Work saves us from three great evils: bore-
