Note : If the Institution is likely to propose for closure of any Course, the name of the Course

Existing Intake Column and in the Proposed intake / Total Intake Column, it should be mentioned

9. (C) PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE - LABORATORIES
      Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab, Computer Lab, English Comm. Lab = 120 sq.m each
      Workshop = 840 sq.m. In case of workshop building, ACC sheet roofing may be allowed as a special

      case upto 500 m area out of total required area.
      Laboratories (II / III year) : 4 to 8 sq.m. per student. The space requirement of labs is determined by
      the number of students working at a time (batch size) and the size of the equipment. The size of
      equipment / Machinery like Textile Technology, Printing, heavy machine tools may dictate areas higher
      than 8 sq.m. per student. For Heavy Equipment Labs like Thermal Lab, 8 sq.m per student shall be
      adopted. For other Small Scale Machinery/ equipment, minimum area required is 6 sq.m. per student. It
      is to be noted that the Lab should have a capacity to accommodate at least a batch of 30 students.

 (i) Institutions without accredited programmes (Table : 1) :
     For the Institutions without accredited programmes, the maximum number of Courses
     and the maximum intake allowed are 6 and 420 respectively. After reaching an intake
     of 360 with 6 Courses, revision in intake from 60 to 120 in one of the 6 Courses is
     allowed. The number of Courses in each year, from the year of starting of the
     Institution is furnished in Table : 1.

(ii) Institutions with accredited programmes (Table : 2) :
       The maximum sanctioned intake with 3 accredited programmes is 720.
       For each accredited Course, the Institution is allowed to increase the intake from
        60 to 120 in the accredited Course, and to introduce one new Course with an
        intake of 60.
       When 2 Courses are accredited, the Institution is allowed to have a sanctioned
        intake of 660 as shown in Table 2.
       When 3 Courses are accredited, increase in sanctioned intake from 660 to 720
        shall be allowed either by rising the intake from 60 to 120 in the accredited Course
        or by introducing new Course with an intake of 60.
       Thus, the maximum number of Courses is limited to 9.

(iii) The maximum increase in intake in a year (in new Course and revision in existing
      Course) is restricted to 120.

(iv) The increase in intake can be considered only in multiples of 60 i.e. increase from 60 to
     90 is not allowed. The intake for new additional Course is 60 (less than 60 is not
     permitted). Separate class should be available for strength beyond 60.

3.   NORMS FOR COMPUTER CENTRE / LAB :
  (i) The total number of required Computers must be computed based on sanctioned
      intake; including lateral entry sanctioned strength, but not on admitted students
      strength.
 (ii) FIRST YEAR : For First year Diploma, irrespective of the branch, the ratio of
                       Computer and number of students should be 1 : 7
(iii) SECOND & THIRD YEAR :
     (a).   For Computer Engineering / Information Technology / Computer related
            branches, the ratio of Computer and number of students should be 1 : 3
     (b).   For other branches, the ratio of Computer and number of students should be 1 : 7

4.   EQUIPMENTS :
 (i) Not more than 4 (four) students to work in an equipment.
(ii) The experimental setups should be arranged as per the requirements of the curriculum.

(viii) Workshop Staff :
        The ratio between Foremen to Workshop Instructor may be 1 : 5.
        One workshop instructor is recommended for one trade.
        One workshop attendant for 3 workshops.
        Number of Workshop Foreman may vary from institution to institution.
        Number of Workshop Instructor will depend on the workload in the workshop. For
          a workload of about 25 hrs / week in a workshop, one workshop instructor is
          recommended. However, the number will also vary based on different trade.
 (ix) Laboratory staff :
      Atleast one laboratory assistant for each laboratory.
      One laboratory attendant for each department.

8.    FINANCIAL STATUS :
      As per AICTE norms, all the existing Institutions, irrespective of the year of
      establishment, the Financial status should be maintained as Rs. 50 Lakhs as
      Operational funds.

9.    As per AICTE norms, sharing of facilities (land, buildings, library, Workshop,
      Laboratories, Computers, Classrooms, Drawing halls, etc.) with other Institution is not
      permitted.

10.   TWO sets of Inspection report and enclosures along with the Recommendations
      should be submitted in bound (soft binding) form along with page numbers.
