November 2009 – Page 14 NASA Integrated Services Network Project Office Changes (cont) • The ViIP service utilizes the existing NISN backbone for transport of the video conferences, as well as a NASA-owned and operated video bridge • Centers are charged based on a percentage of the total usage of the ViIP system • NISN calculates total cost of the system to operate for the year and charges the Centers based on the amount of utilization from that Center for the previous year. • Costs are lower than outsourced solution, and do not increase based on the type of call (Standard, High Definition, Operator Assisted, etc) November 2009 – Page 15 NASA Integrated Services Network Project Office Cost Model for ViIP • Service Cost Model • Total ViIP Service Cost known at beginning of each year and includes: • Conferencing Bridge • NASA Teleconferencing Center (NTC) labor • Disaster recovery service • Technology Refresh (Infrastructure HW, Maintenance) • Centers to pay based on percentage of overall usage of ViIP system • Use previous years minutes • Calculate percentage of minutes used for each Center • Use that percentage for percentage of total service bill • Yearly review will be conducted • Remaining customer ISDN circuits are not part of the ViIP Service cost • FTS 2001 contract expires in May, 2010 • ISDN circuits to remain for Video conferencing use must be transitioned to the GSA Networx contract and separate charges will apply and be charged to the appropriate Center. • Centers are encouraged to migrate to ViIP and disconnect ISDN circuits to save money November 2009 – Page 16 NASA Integrated Services Network Project Office
