Dear Senator INSERT NAME:

First of all, thank you so much for all your support of Job Corps! The students and staff at the
(YOUR CENTER) Job Corps Center always appreciate your efforts to protect, strengthen and
expand the Job Corps program.

Consider these disturbing national statistics:
 Estimated number of youth who drop out of high school each year: 1.2 million
 Total lifetime cost of each high school dropout: $469,200
 Approximate cost to the American taxpayer to address the projected 12 million youth who
drop out of high school over the next decade: $3 trillion.
 Percentage of youth ages 16 – 24 who are unemployed: 28%
Consider the cost of Job Corps:
 Average cost per student who resides on a safe campus with regular education and job
training, mentoring, conflict resolution, counseling and wellness programs: $87 per day.
 Supporting the transformation of 60,000 of the nation’s most at-risk youth through Job
    Corps: priceless.

Each year, the (NUMBER OF CENTERS IN STATE) in (INSERT STATE), including the

diversity, conflict resolution and healthy lifestyles choices. As result of (YOUR CENTER) Job
Corps Center’s efforts, in 9-10 short months (ENTER PERCENTAGE) students leave with a
high school diploma or GED, pursue higher education, secure employment or enter the military.

The (YOUR CENTER) Job Corps Center’s return on investment is not limited to the dollars
recovered as a result of its students educational, social and employability skills. Job Corps
centers, like ours in (CITY, STATE), also represent a center for economic activity in our local
community that is particularly important during this economic downturn in communities across
the nation. Specifically, for every million dollars the (YOUR CENTER) Job Corps Center
spends, 14.5 jobs are directly created and 9.5 local jobs are indirectly created. Additionally,
$1.91 in local economic activity is generated by each dollar invested in Job Corps.

The (YOUR CENTER) Job Corps Center works closely with small and large employers to
customize career technical training, place eager-to-work, entry-level graduates into jobs and
provide real-world internships for students. Employers like (LIST SPECIFIC EMPLOYERS)
area always ready and willing to work with (YOUR CENTER) Job Corps Center because we
work! Finally, the (YOUR CENTER) Job Corps Center conducts thousands of hours of
community service in and around (CITY) rehabilitating public buildings and helping its
residents.

We are writing to not only share the significant impact and contribution the (YOUR CENTER)
has on (INSERT STATE), but also encourage you to continue supporting and advocating for
Job Corps. Specifically, we urge you to follow the fiscal year 2011 Labor, Health and Human
Services and Education Appropriations bill closely to ensure Job Corps receives a strong
investment to continue serving 60,000 economically disadvantaged youth at the 124 facilities
located across the country.

Again, we thank you for your support of Job Corps! We hope that you will schedule a visit to
the (YOUR CENTER) Job Corps Center during the upcoming August congressional recess. To
schedule a visit, please do not hesitate to contact (INSERT CONTACT) at (000) 000-0000 or at
