Technology in Education Grants
PURPOSE OF THIS GRANT SERIES
The purpose of the Macon County Schools Technology in Education Grant process is to provide a more
equitable and meaningful distribution of 21st Century Learning Environment tools and resources to our
classrooms. Macon County Schools strives for the continued infusion of multiple technologies into our
classrooms. Our Technology Plan reflects our commitment and is correlated with the North Carolina
State Technology Plan’s Strategic Goals.
NC public schools will produce globally competitive students
NC public schools will be led by 21st Century professionals
NC public school students will be healthy and responsible
Leadership will guide innovation in NC public schools
NC public schools will be governed and supported by 21st Century systems
These grants will also provide a means to measure the effectiveness of many different technologies in
the learning environment through review documentation and student free-form evaluations.
GRANT RECIPIENT TERMS AND AGREEMENT
Grant recipients will be required to complete review documentation and evaluations as a condition of
receiving the grant. One month after receiving the grant the recipient must demonstrate use, or
planned use of the equipment. This documentation can be in the form of lesson plans, short narrative,
or classroom visit by a member of the MCS Technology in Education Grant Advisory Council. In addition,
the recipient agrees to provide student evaluations at the end of the term. The recipient understands
that the awarding of all grants shall be at the discretion of Macon County Schools and its Technology in
Education Grants Advisory Council. The Grant recipient understands that all equipment and software
awarded will remain the property of Macon County Schools.
WHAT CRITERIA WILL BE USED TO DETERMINE THE GRANT AWARDS?
All requests will be considered. However, priority will be placed on requests from teachers:
• that have demonstrated a desire to have the equipment by attending training in the use of the
equipment or related training
• that have shown an interest in this equipment or related equipment previously
• that have demonstrated an effective use of the current technology to which they have access
In addition, plans will be evaluated on:
• the number of students impacted
• how effective the use of the equipment will be for the long-term, regardless of changes to
• how use of this equipment will improve, advance and enrich student learning
• creative, engaging and flexible use of the equipment
WHO WILL REVIEW AND AWARD THE GRANTS?
Grants will be reviewed and awarded by the Macon County Schools Technology in Education Grant
Advisory Council. Members for this grant include the following:

Nancy Cantrell, Secondary Curriculum and Instruction
Carol Waldroop, Elementary Curriculum and Instruction
HOW DO I APPLY?
Applying for the grant is easy. Just follow the steps below.
Read and understand the “GRANT RECIPIENT TERMS AND AGREEMENT” section of this
Determine your eligibility by reading “WHO MAY SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR THIS GRANT?”
on the Grant Details page.
Determine that you meet all requirements by reading “ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS” on the
Grant Details page.
Fill out the Technology in Education Grant Application Form.
Sign and date the form.

SCOPE OF THIS GRANT
This is a competitive grant and will award the following:
One AverMedia 300AF Document Camera/Interactive Visualizer
One AverMedia Microscope Adapter
2 hours professional development which includes expenses and sub-pay

NUMBER OF GRANTS TO BE AWARDED
Five grants will be awarded to five separate recipients.
GRANT APPLICATION WINDOW
The application window will be open from May 29, 2009 through June 9, 2009.
Grants will be awarded on June 12, 2009
WHO MAY SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR THIS GRANT?
Applicant must have a digital projector in his or her classroom, or have one available for checkout.
