Some jobs actually give you both a paycheck and help to repay your student loans. Tak e a look:

TEACHERS
   Under California’s APLE (Assumption Program of Loans for Education) programs, up to $11,000 of
    your student loan debt will be assumed in return for up to four years of teaching in California in either
    a designated subject that has a critical shortage of teachers, or at a designated school. If you teach
    math, science or special education, an additional $1,000 will be assumed each year. If you teach one
    of these three subjects in the lowest-performing schools, another $1, 000 a year will be paid off, for a

   Under the Federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, up to $5, 000 of your federal Stafford loan
    debt will be paid off if you teach for five years in a low -income school. Up to $17,500 will be paid off if
    you teach math, science or special education at the high school level or special education at the

    and Deferment Options for Teachers”).
   Teach for America pays recent college graduates to teach for two years at disadvantaged schools.
    You may also receive forbearance and int erest payment benefits, as well as up to $1,725 a year to

   Your federal Perkins loan debt may be canceled if you teach full time at a qualify school, in a
    designated subject or to children with disabilities. Contact your school or go to

HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
   Through SNAPLE, California’s State Nursing Assumption Program of Loans for Education, up to
    $25,000 of your student loan debt may be assumed if you’re a nursing student and go on to teach
    nursing at a California college for up to three years. Your student loan debt may also be assumed if
    you work as a nurse in a state facility. For details, go to www.csac.ca.gov.
   Your federal Perkins loan debt may be cancelled if you work as a nurse or a medical technician.

    The federal government may assume your student loan debt if your work as a health professional in

CHILD CA RE PROV IDERS
   If you work in a designated child care site or at a Head Start program, your Perkins loan debt may be
    cancelled. For details, go to www.studentaid.ed.gov or contact your college.

NATIONAL SERVICE VOLUNTEERS
   AmeriCorps awards may be used to pay off your federal student loan. Visit www.americorps.org to
    learn more. If you serve as a VIS TA or Peace Corps volunteer, a portion of your federal Perkins loan
    debt will be cancelled. To learn more, contact your college or go to www.studentaid.ed.gov.

MILITARY PERSONNEL
   Cert ain branches of the U.S. Armed Forces offer loan assumption benefits. For more information,
    visit www.todaysmilitary.com. If you serve in the U.S. Armed Forces in an area of hostility or
    imminent danger, u to half of your federal Perkins loan debt will be cancelled.
   California’s new National Guard Assumption Program of Loans for Educ ation provides up to $11,000
    in loan assumption benefits for Californians who enlist or reenlist in the National Guard, the state
    Military Reserve or the Naval Militia for up to three years of service. For details, go to
