CONCORDIA PLAN SERVICES - HEALTH PLAN INSURANCE GATHERINGS

The economic reality today encourages us that as good stewards we must examine every option
available to us to manage our limited resources. When budgets are being prepared in a few months,
congregations will most likely take a look at reducing health costs to their organizations. How
would a change effect your workers? The window of opportunity to make any changes to an
organization‘s health coverage is during October. Ralph Simon, Benefit Consultant, Concordia Plan
Services, St. Louis, will be in the Northwest District during the third week of April, 2010, to host
regional gatherings in an effort to provide congregations and workers with up-to-date information
and available options as it relates to health plan coverage. Our goal is to equip congregations and
workers with enough information to enable them to make informed decisions when they enter the
budgeting process later this year.

Gatherings will be held in the evening and we currently have two gatherings confirmed –

 Trinity Lutheran Church, 5520 NE Killingworth Street, Portland, OR (Tuesday, April 20, 2010)
 St. John Lutheran Church, 1350 Court Street NE, Salem, OR (Thursday, April 22, 2010)

In addition, Ralph will be available to meet with individuals or congregations during the day and
address issues and/or answer questions as it might relate to a specific topic. It is important that you
contact our office no later than April 1, 2010, if you are interested in attending either of the two
gatherings listed above or would like to make an appointment with Ralph Simon for an individual
meeting.

If interest is expressed in having additional gatherings in other areas of our District (i.e.,
Seattle/Tacoma, Boise, etc.), please contact Martha Conboy at (503) 288-8383 or 888-693-5267 (toll
free) or e-mail MarthaC@nowlcms.org.

DISTRICT MILITARY MINISTRY WORKSHOP - OPERATION BARNABAS

Operation Barnabas is an LCMS program designed to support Lutheran chaplains and reserve
soldiers who are called to wartime duty. Today‘s soldiers need our prayers and our support as well
as their families. The Northwest District provides resources to make congregations more aware of
soldiers‘ and their families needs before deployment, during deployment and after deployment.

On April 17, 2010, the Northwest District will be hosting a workshop at Prince of Peace,
Lakewood, WA which will lead participants through a deployment process. The workshop will
begin at 8:30 AM and conclude at 4:30 PM. Lunch will be provided. You will receive a workbook, a
great learning experience, and have the opportunity to meet others like you who have a heart for our
military families. A free will offering will be taken to help defray costs.

Rev. Richard Flath and Rev. Bruce Rumsch have been trained as District Counselors in this area and
will be available to consult with pastors and congregational members who are dealing with military
issues among their members.

Registration is online at the Operation Barnabas site along with information for this important
workshop - http://barnabas.lcmsworldmission.org/?p=502 Be sure to click on the District Workshop
registration link and indicate your participation in the Lakewood, Washington workshop. If you have
questions or need more information, please e-mail Rev. Richard Flath at pastor_r_flath@msn.com or

JEWISH MISSION MOMENT

Have you ever considered what the world would have been like if there had been no Jews? This was
Hitler‘s goal in the last century, and he did exterminate 1/3 of world Jewry. Today there are many
in the Muslim world who seek that same goal. But just think. If there had been no Jews, there would
have been no Mendelssohn, no Einstein, no doctors Sauk and Sabin to eliminate polio. And no
Jesus, which means no church, no salvation, no forgiveness, no eternal life, no heaven. Remember to
share Jesus, the Jew, with your Jewish friends. Call us at 314-645-4456 314-645-4456 or see us at
www.lije.org, or email us at revkevye@aol.com for tips on how to share Jesus with Jews.

DO YOU SERVE SPANISH SPEAKING PEOPLE?

Do you serve, or would you like to serve, Spanish-speaking people in your community with the
Gospel? Or are you planning a mission trip to Central or South America? If so, the Lutheran Heritage
Foundation (LHF) has a free resource that will soon be available to you: the Spanish edition of the
Holy Bible, bound with Luther's Small Catechism. To pre-order copies, visit the LHF website at
www.LHFmissions.org/Spanish_Bible_Poll, where you can also take a poll to help LHF decide how
many copies of the Bible/catechism to print, in what version, in hardcover or soft cover. LHF's
materials are provided at no charge to those who need them.

Pam Bridgehouse of Lutheran Latino Ministries shares: I have a template for Bible labels for guided
reading. I sent a copy to Dr. Wallace Schulz of the Lutheran Heritage Foundation after the Hispanic
Ministry Convention last summer - he was very interested in using them. I can email the template
and label size information to anyone who is interested - email Pam for the template at
PamBridgehouse@hughes.net

NETWORKING WITH CONGREGATIONS RE SOFTWARE USE

What software are you using for Accounting and Database functions in your church? Do they work?
We would like to develop a list of different softwares being used by congregations, so we can
network churches that might have insights or need help on how certain softwares work. Would you
be willing to share information with us? What you are using and how well does it works - or how
well it does not work? If you are willing to share this information - fill out a survey at this link:
http://www.nowlcms.org/general_services/ChurchSoftwareResources.aspx

MY WILL, GOD'S RESPONSE: GOD'S WILL, MY RESPONSE

Where is God when life seems to be falling apart? Is he listening to our cries for help? How does
one trust a God who seems silent? Worse yet, how does one trust when God says no to our
requests? In My Will, God's Response: God's Will, My Response, Aletha C. Voges shares insights
learned and blessings received as she grappled with issues of faith while her husband battled
pancreatic cancer. In devotional thoughts, Aletha shares her soul as she cried out to God for answers
to her prayers. You will be led through a trail of amazing events orchestrated by God to accomplish
his purpose. Are you struggling with faith issues in your life today? Take your own faith journey
with Aletha as she shares how God makes himself known to her through her trials. Email Aletha for
more information at: alethan@aol.com
