Job Title: Office Administrator/Administrative Assistant

Reports to: Executive Director

Grade: A-5

Purpose of this position:

       To provide support to the Executive Director and Agency in matters pertaining to day to day
       operations, fundraising, human resources, office management and board relations; does
       various clerical, administrative, human resources and receptionist work as required.

Positions Supervised:
       Receptionist

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

       Board Liaison: take board meeting minutes, prepare all Board mailings, coordinate regular
       program reports to the Board, prepare Board orientation packets, act as communication liaison
       between Executive Director and Board members.

       Secretary: take senior staff and all staff minutes, compose and mail correspondence, maintain
       correspondence and human resources files.

       Fundraising: assist in the coordination of all special events, maintain donor files, send donor
       response letters.

       Clerical Management: oversee and monitor all office supplies; maintain equipment; supervise
       receptionists, answering telephones when needed, computer data entry.

       Receptionist: conduct reception duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

       ability to work well with a variety of people, significant experience in related computer software:
       donor management, advanced word processing, spreadsheets; ability to handle many different

Job Title: Employment Specialist

Reports to: Vice President

Grade: A-4

Purpose of this position:

       to develop, maintain and manage the employer relationships in the NDY WIA Collaborative

Positions Supervised: none

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

       Liaison with Employers, WorkSource Centers, and Sub-contractors: conducts regular meetings,
       trainings, and workshops with employers and sub-contactors to ensure that the employers have
       input into the WIA system in a positive manner.

       Report Preparation and Monitoring of youth placements and employers: prepares agendas for
       proposed projects, oversees and assesses progress, prepares monthly updates of progress.

       Maintenance of files relating to employment: Provide case notes, MIS documentation, and re-
       assessments as needed for youth

       Leadership Responsibilities: is a member of the management team of NDY, leads all-staff
       meeting as requested, acts as a role model for all staff, acts as a representative of NDY in the
       Los Angeles community as requested by the Executive Director.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

       Able to work well with a variety of people; has knowledge of non-profit reporting methods,
       procedures, legal provisions and regulations; has knowledge of related computer software
       including World Perfect 5.1/6.0 and, MS Excel; able to work well under pressure; desires to be

Job Title: Outreach Program Director

Reports to: Vice President

Grade: A-6

Positions supervised: Intake coordinator and all personnel related to Challenge II and TANF
programming including para-professional outreach counselors

Purpose of this position:

       to ensure the efficient, effective and appropriate functioning of the clinical counseling
       department

Primary Responsibilities:

       Staff Supervision: supervises all counseling staff to ensure compliance with NDY and graduate
       school expectations and in a way that contributes to the professional growth of the staff

       Grant Development and Monitoring: ensures satisfactory achievement of all counseling
       department grant objectives, ensures that grant records and files are appropriately set-up and
       maintained, takes a leadership role in finding and developing new proposals and ideas for
       future growth

       School Liaison: identifies schools that will participate in NDY programs and acts as the primary
       NDY liaison with participating schools to ensure that NDY programs are appropriate and
       effective

       Liaison with Counseling Program Funding Sources: represents NDY in all meetings and
       contacts with counseling program funding sources, responds to the needs of grant monitors
       and ensures positive site visits

       Leadership Responsibilities: is a member of the senior management team of NDY, leads all-
       staff meetings as requested, attends NDY Board of Directors meetings as requested, acts as a
       role model for all staff, acts as a representative of NDY in the Los Angeles community as
       requested by the Vice President and President and conducts him/herself in a way that reflects
       positively on NDY at all times.

Job Title: Vice President of Operations

Reports to: Executive Director

Grade: A-8

Positions Supervised: Environmental Services Director, Outreach Counseling Director, Clinical
Counseling Director, Youth Services Director and indirectly all support staff.

Purpose of this position:

       In charge of all programs at New Directions for Youth to ensure growth of staff, organization-
       wide compliance with all city, country and state grants, ensure that grants are managed in such
       a way that cash flow is maintained and that new grants are constantly being sought and
       received.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Contracts Management:: ensure organization-wide compliance with various city, county and state
contracts, manages contract modifications in programs and budgets. manage all independent and sub
contracts

Financial: Develop and manage all budget procedures for both current and new projects New
Directions for Youth, as well as the development and management of an equitable salary scale.

Grant writing: identifies funding sources; assist in the preparation of grant applications working with
the project directors to design programs and develop budgets; developing program collaborations with
other agencies and partners.

Community Relations: participates in various community organizations, meetings and events as
requested; develops and maintains relations with related community-based organizations.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

Essential: experience with financial oversight of contracts in a non-profit; ability to manage people;
ability to work with other non-profit and community organizations; excellent time management and
organization skills; interest in promoting the welfare of low income people; proven record of working
well under pressure and with a variety of people; enjoys handling multiple tasks.

Job Title: Intake Counselor

Purpose of this position:

       Coordinates and performs all intake functions including but not limited to work flow
       assignment and coordination and development of policies and procedures in line with
       grant and contract requirements.

Positions Supervised: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

       Screen incoming calls and walk-ins to determine appropriateness of services.
       Responsible for completion of initial intake and eligibility procedures. Analyzes and
       maintains all client records. Refers eligible clients to appropriate service, assists in
       referring non-eligible clients to other agencies. Develops caseload and makes
       assignments to Case Aid for transportation, where appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

       At lease two years experience in a social service organization or related field. Must
       have fluent oral and written skills in English and Spanish. Must possess demonstrated
       presentation and organization skills. Proficient in windows computer programs.
       Windows 95 preferred.

Education:

Job Title: Executive Director

Reports to: Board of Directors

Grade: A-9     $5,417 - $7,500

Positions Supervised: Vice President, Controller and indirectly all program managers

Purpose of This Position:

       to ensure the programmatic and fiscal integrity of New Directions for Youth as well as ensure
       the growth and development of program, budget and staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial: develops and manages the organizational budget, develops budgets for new projects,
ensures smooth income flow from existing contracts, develops and manages an equitable salary scale.
Participates with the Controller and Vice President in monthly invoicing, cash flow projections, contract
and program audits, and managing relationships with fiscal monitors and funding sources.

Contracts Management: assist Vice President with organization-wide compliance on various city,
county and state contracts, manages contract modifications in programs and budgets.

Grant Writing: identifies funding sources; obtains supporting data for proposals from various
community sources, attends bidders conferences, assists in developing program collaborations with
other agencies and partners

Community Relations: maintains adequate public relations with multi-ethnic communities and with all
the funding sources and their representatives; seeks out new fund for both old and new programs, and
conducts the necessary public functions to obtain such funds; participates in various community
organizations, meetings and events as requested; develops and maintains relations with related
community-based organizations; participates in numerous community organizations, often as a officer,
use these organizations to further advocate for the youth groups severed by New Directions for Youth.

Miscellaneous: anticipates key administrative problems, especially funding gaps, with adequate time in
advance so that remedial action can be undertaken; helps staff with problems in any area of program
management, initiates disciplinary procedures and terminations.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

Essential: Extensive experience in running complex programs successfully. Experience in dealing with
the problems of minority youth, particularly Hispanic youth. Able to plan and implement complex
programs. Must have a minimum of five years experience as a paid executive of a program serving
minority youth.

Desirable: knowledge of LA political structure and the San Fernando Valley; a working knowledge of
computer hardware and software; some knowledge of labor law.
Education: Bachelors degree in education, social work, psychology or other related field. Masters
degree in public administration, psychology, sociology or other related fields, or commensurate years
relative experience.

Purpose of this position:

       to ensure the efficient, effective and appropriate functioning of all programs assigned to this
       position.

Primary responsibilities:

       Grant Monitoring: ensures satisfactory progress of all programs assigned to this position,
       ensures that grant records and files (both program and financial) are appropriately set-up,
       maintained and available for audit.

       Staff Supervision: supervises all program staff for programs assigned to this position in a way
       that ensures compliance with NDY expectations and in a way that contributes to the
       professional growth of the staff.

       Leadership Responsibilities: leads department staff meetings as requested, acts as a role

       requested by the supervisor or the NDY President; develops and maintains relations with

Purpose of this position:

       to ensure appropriate client growth as determined by the supervisor’s expectations and the
       grant requirements

Primary responsibilities:

       Counseling/Mentoring: provide direct counseling services to clients in individual, family or
       groups. These services may take place at NDY or other contexts as assigned by the
       supervisor.

       Documentation: assist in preparing documentation of client activities and growth in an
       accurate, complete and timely manner according to the Challenge II grant expectations and
       agency standards.

       Team communications: ensure positive communications with supervisor and other counseling
       staff members in such a way that client privacy is maintained, supervisors are kept fully
       informed of all activities that impact compliance with grant expectations, and other team
       members are supported.

       Community relations: ensures positive and accurate communications with staff of program
       sites, the Probation Department, and acts in such a way that reflects positively on NDY at all
       times.

       Transportation: ensure safe transportation for minors from the CRC (New Directions for
       Youth/Jeopardy Foundation) site to minor’s home, from the CRC site to off site activities and
       from program service site to program service site.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

       Must possess extensive knowledge of youth development, be knowledgeable about youth
       programs in substance abuse, education, recreation, or related areas, have fluent oral and
       written skills in English, ability to speak Spanish highly desirable, have valid Class B California
       drivers license with a clean driving record, have two years or more experience in community
       work, seek to be an effective member of a growing team, enjoy a periodically heavy workload,
       seek additional ways to be of service to the organization, able to work well with a variety of

       to assist the controller and senior accountant to ensure of the financial stability of New
       Directions for Youth

Purpose of this Position:

       to ensure the efficient, effective and appropriate functioning of NDY’s youth services programs

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

       Staff Supervision: supervises all staff in this department to ensure compliance with NDY
       standards and expectations in a way that contributes to the professional growth of the staff

Job Title: Case Manag

Reports to: Program Director

Grade: A-5     $18/hr – part-time-18 hours per week (M-Th 3pm-7pm & 1 Saturday per month 8 hours)

Positions Supervised: Tutor, Volunteers

Purpose of this position:
         To plan and coordinate the Alternative Services for Youth program as required by NDY and
      the grant requirements

Responsibilities:
         Communication: interface with foster youth, caregivers and County Social Workers to
     improve school attendance; improve grade point averages, graduation rates and achievement
     of school credits. Provide career education and counseling workshops; home visits, cultural
     activities as required.
         Record Keeping: identify a caseload of students at a particular site and prepare case
     management files; coordinates and assist with monthly school evaluations; responsible for
     pertinent information required by the funding source in order to maintain tracking.
         Student Orientation: ensure all students have completed assessment, orientation and
     enrollment documents and sign in sheets for all activities; develop weekly schedule to include
     all academic, enrichment and after school activities; schedule weekly meetings both group and
     individual with students to discuss issues and concerns.
         Attendance: maintain regular contact with school to ensure student is attending school on a
     regular bases; maintain regular contact with CSW to ensure student is attending activities on a
     regular bases; counsel and/or refer students to appropriate agencies as needed to ensure that
     they are ready to emancipate at age 19.
         Volunteer Coordination: recruit and train volunteers to provide tutoring and mentoring to
     foster youth enrolled in the program

Skills and Qualifications Needed:
        Must possess extensive knowledge of youth development and be knowledgeable about youth
        programs, youth employment, education, recreation, or related areas. Have fluent oral and
        written skills in English and valid California drivers license. Staff will be required to get class “B”
        license within 1st 90 days of employment. Must have 1st Aid/CPR certifications within 1st 90 days
        of employment. Must have 3 years or more experience in working with youth, seek to be an
        effective member of a growing team, enjoy a periodically heavy workload and seek additional
        ways to be of service to the organization. Must be able to work well with a variety of people, be

Purpose of this position:

       answers telephones and does various clerical work as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

       answering telephones, computer data entry, generating computer reports, copying, faxing,
       filing, and other assistance as requested by the Director of Personnel.

       Greeting clients, distributing pertinent information about NDY to clients and visitors as needed,

Purpose of this position:

Job Title: Field Supervisor

Reports to: Environmental Services Director

Grade: A-2 $1,392 - $1,983

Purpose of this position:

       Supervise on work sites group of 8-10 youth and adults participants referred by
       Probation, LAPD, Juvenile Camps, Volunteer Center and the Courts while eradicating
       graffiti and/or providing clean-ups within the assigned community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

          Responsible for supervising courts referred participants for community service.

          Document all hours’ participant works while enrolled in NDFY graffiti removal
           program.

          Make referrals both in-house as well as outside as deemed necessary.

          Responsible for all paint and other necessary equipment required to remove graffiti
           and provide clean-ups.

          Must take every measure to insure the safety of all participant as well as you while
           at the work site.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

       At lease two years experience in a social service organization working with gangs or
       related field. He/She must possess a valid class B California Driver’s License. He/she
       must have a good working knowledge of San Fernando Valley community resources,
       court system and private sector. He/She must be self-motivated, enthusiastic,
       conscientious, resourceful and possess human relations skills. Bi-lingual capability
