Arlington Virginia FCU Saluted for Community Service Work

Arlington Virginia Federal Credit Union has won 2nd Place in the Dora Maxwell Social
Responsibility Recognition Award Program for credit unions. The Social Responsibility
Recognition Award Program, sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union League and the
Credit Union National Association, honors credit unions for their involvement in
community projects and activities.

The credit union‟s award-winning entry spotlighted its Community Service Day, which
offered staff a unique opportunity to dedicate a full day as a volunteer at one of five
charitable and community service events.

The credit union‟s Community Service Committee supervised projects that prepared 30
meals for the homeless, cleaned a local homeless shelter, aided the local Goodwill
distribution center, cleaned a local food bank‟s warehouse and helped the local Animal
Welfare League of Arlington prepare the adoption packets that go home with adopted
animals and their new owners.

“We love opportunities that help us put credit union‟s „People Helping People‟
philosophy into action,” says Arlington Virginia Federal Credit Union CEO Brenda
Turner. “Unfortunately, we don‟t have to look far to find truly desperate needs in our
community, but we also recognize that each of us can play a role in addressing those
needs, sometimes through little more than our compassion and a few hours of our time.”

Arlington Virginia Federal Credit Union is a $170 million member-owned, not-for-profit
financial cooperative based in Arlington. Learn more about the credit union online at

The competition is named after Dora Maxwell, a credit union pioneer, who worked with
several organizations to improve the living standards of the poor and needy.
