GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this course students can discover and apply concepts to both explain and influence how people and their organizations work. Specific topics include motivation, perception, personality, emotions, communication, team dynamics, decision making, conflict and negotiation, power and organizational politics, leadership, organizational change and development and organization, culture.
RELATIONSHIP TO COLLEGE PROGRAM This course is required for all Business Administration Diploma (two-year) programs, Event Management Certificate, the Database Administrator Certificate, and the Network Support Technician Program, and can be used as an elective in the Business Administration Certificate (one-year) Program, Tourism Management Diploma Associate of Arts Degree, Human Kinetics Diploma, and Recreation Management Diploma. It is available online as well as in a traditional classroom in the winter semester. Prior Learning Assessment: If you are seeking prior credit for this course, evidence of your learning achievement may include: • diagnoses of individual, group and organization situations and appropriate recommendations to improve productivity, job satisfaction, absenteeism and turnover in organizations. Such analyses will include written and oral reports and demonstrated behaviour.

COURSE WORK: Delivery: Classes will include brief lectures and a great deal of discussion focused on assigned readings, videos, and case scenarios. There will be opportunities to make presentations, role play, do on-line research and write memos in class. Attendance is very important.
Resources: In addition to the required text, there are many other books on organizational behaviour, motivation, quality, teamwork, leadership and organizational change in the College Library for you to access. You will also explore several Internet sites.

POLICY ON LATE ASSIGNMENTS: Assignments must be handed in on or before the date and time specified by the instructor. The penalty for late assignments is 20% per school day. Late assignments will not be accepted after the earlier of five school days or the day and time the marked assignments have been returned to other students. Extenuating circumstances may be accommodated, but the instructor must be notified on or before the due date. EXAM POLICY: Students must attend all required scheduled exams that make up a final grade at the appointed time and place. Accommodation for illness or personal crisis may be made by individual instructors. Additional accommodation will not be made unless a written request is sent to and approved by the appropriate Department Head prior to the scheduled exam. Any student who misses a scheduled exam without approval will be given a grade of “0” for the exam. PLAGIARISM POLICY: Plagiarism – using the oral or written words and ideas of others without proper acknowledgment – is an academic offense. Because plagiarism is a form of academic misconduct, students found guilty face serious consequences. Students who are unsure of what constitutes plagiarism are advised to consult with an instructor or to refer to section 2.4.4 in the College Policy Manual.
