Investigating the Occult: Religion, Witchcraft and Magic
Course Description: This seminar provides investigators with an introduction to the beliefs, practices and rituals of
various religious systems. An emphasis will be placed on their structures, symbolism, and the evolution of the
systems as they pertain to a criminal or civil investigation. Various cults, hate groups, and subcultures will be
addressed to give the student an understanding of the different behaviors associated with the specific groups.
Students will then learn how to identify a crime scene or evidence recovered from an incident for possible ritualistic
significance and finally how to proceed with the investigation.
Purpose: Homicide, sexual assault, aggravated assault, and desecration of human remains or venerated objects are
some of the offenses committed in the name of or under the guise of religious practice. These crimes are committed
in urban as well as rural locales, on public and private property, and everywhere from schools to correctional
facilities. These crime scenes are often distasteful, mysterious, and complicated by myth and misunderstanding.
The investigation or even mere discovery of such incidents requires highly specialized training that was not widely
available, until now.
Date: October 19, 2009 Course Length: One day (8 hours). Time 8:30-4:30
This seminar is a prerequisite for Advanced Level - Investigating the Occult and Deciphering Ritualistic Crime
Scenes to be offered in 2010.

With twenty-five years of law enforcement expertise and over seventeen years immersed in the study of the occult,
Paul is internationally recognized as an expert in his field. He has lectured extensively to law enforcement officers,
social service organizations, criminal investigators, and educators on the beliefs and practices of various religious
systems. Paul has also consulted on crime scene investigations involving ritualistic symbolism and has provided
expert testimony on the subject.
Cost: $195.00 per student.
Groups of two or more receive a 10% discount.

Date: November 6, 2009 Course Length: One day (8 hours). Time 8:30-4:30
This seminar is a prerequisite for Advanced Level - Investigating the Occult and Deciphering Ritualistic Crime
Scenes to be offered in 2010.
Instructor: Mr. Paul Long – Lead Instructor - Spartan Group’s Applied Training and Consulting Division
Check, money order, or department purchase order is accepted – payable to Spartan Group Consulting, LLC.
