Course Description:
This will be a train-the-trainer program designed to meet the requirements for Firearms
Instructor certification from the Training and Standards Bureau. The program will follow
the LESB training guide and involves hands-on and classroom presentations by the in-
structor candidates. This training program will help the candidates establish and conduct a
departmental firearms training program. Candidates will receive practical, hands-on train-
ing in the proper methods of firearms instruction through utilization of the shooter/coach
method.

Topics of Instruction Include:
*The LESB Certification and Re-certification process *Use of Force and Deadly Force Deci-
sion Making *WILENET Training Resources *Trainers, Training and Civil and Criminal Liability
*Lesson and Range Plan Development * Diagnosing, Evaluating and Correcting Problem Shooters
*Range Officer/Instructor Responsibilities and Exercises

Program Length:               40 Hours             Certified Wisconsin LEO

Program Dates and Times:                           Completion of DOJ IDP

Commuter (Tuition w/ noon meals)                            $ 270.00

Resident (Tuition w/ all meals & lodging)                   $ 485.00

Items to Bring:
Brochure will be forwarded upon successful enrollment and 2 weeks prior to the pro-
gram start.

Registration Procedure:
Reservations will be accepted only from department training officers or authorized
supervisory personnel. Contact the Academy registrar, Lori Beiswanger at (608) 269-
2500. A complete student enrollment form must be submitted to the Academy either
by mail, e-mail or FAX for each student in each course. Reservations are made on a
first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations will be accepted on a waiting list for pro-
grams, which have reached the maximum enrollment number.
